Thanks for sharing your experience. I also have a couple of thoughts.

I started using the iskin cover on a white MB. I, too, thought the cover made it worse in leaving marks on the screen, until one day I noticed someone else's macbook with keyboard marks all over the screen but without any keyboard cover. So I know I'm gonna have to wipe the keys/screen regularly one way or the other.

As for the IS film, I hesitated putting it on my aluminum MB for a couple of days because of the 'nerd-factor'. I wish I'm one of those who couldn't care less scratching their laptops (the real cool one in Starbucks with too much $ to care). But I'm not that cool (let's face it, I'm hanging around a laptop forum on a Sunday afternoon). Since I move my MB around a lot at home (kitchen counter, table, den, couch, bed), a sleeve just won't do.

A Redtech screensavr will prevent those marks, I just received mine yesterday and it's great :)

hmm you do make a good point about the iSkin keyboard cover. I may have to reconsider if I find the keyboard leaving marks on my screen. Rubber marks are better than scratches any day.

haha as for hanging out in a forum on a sunday night, count me in the "uncool" group. :D

Anyone else use this brand? I had the Incase brand one and I thought it was great. I saw the Speck ones for the whitebook and it felt cheap feeling.

Yes, I too have heard that the Speck hard shells, though I've used and like their iPod covers and cases, is not quite up to par as the ones from Incase. If you can wait until January, they will be available on their site. Incase is the only one that will have it in black, and that's what I would get if I did. It would match all my black DJ equipment I use it with on gigs and give it an extra shell of impact protection (not just scratches) when used on location "out in the field". Also, I don't want something that's a struggle to remove and may cause damage.

The main factor is if it will fit easily on and off with the InvisibleShield on it. Normally, I would agree about putting an adhesive "tape" on these nice new machines, but this military-grade film (used for helicopter blades) has such a nice bounce and grip to it, even if you don't like a little shine. Besides, "shiny metal" can be a nice thing too, sort of a silver effect. I like the glossy metallic look it has from the box with Apple's protective film affixed -- looks like silver metallic finish on cars. I use this for the screen on my Garmin GPS and I love the feel. Doesn't interfere with using the touch screen with your finger or with a stylus. And also, it is removable without any residue; it is not the sticky kind of adhesive. And finally, keep in mind you can always get free ones guaranteed for the life of the machine (less shipping cost) from Zagg if you remove it then change your mind, or screw up while affixing. You don't have to re-purchase it for the same machine. :)

I own an iSkin ProTouch for my 12" iBook G4 which I am about to sell. Here is my suggestion: Keep the skin very clean by leaving it on the keyboard when closed so as not to get dusty as easily and by washing with soap & water when necessary. If it gets dusty it loses it's grip and will slide and become a nuisance. If you are concerned with marks on the screen, simply place the included MacBook Pro cleaning cloth or a sheet of thin "foam paper", the stuff used to wrap breakables and in electronics packaging, and place it between the iSkin and display when closed. I for one do not close mine a lot as I use it from home and am not transporting it frequently. :apple:

does the invisible shield make your MB hotter? have you seen any temperature changes after installing the skin?

No, because aluminum doesn't really "breathe" anyway and no vents are being covered. People have been using them for a few years now without incident.

Hmm, there seems to be a lot of hate entries here.

I wouldn't call it "accessorising" my macbook but more of "protecting" my macbook. Since I travel in and out the city and country with this laptop, it helps to prevent from accidental scratches and spills (of which mostly caused by other people).

I got:

- iSkin protouch FX; after witnessing my friend spilled lemon ice tea onto her laptop keyboard and spent a week carefully plucking some of the keys out.
- Exim screen protector; to tackle that problems with keys leaving imprint on the monitor, since placing fabric screen guard does prevent the lid to be closed properly.
- InvisibleShield; got it cheap from the Halloween day sale, hasn't arrived yet, probably have to check with the post office.

I went against hard shell case like Speck, since they do add to the bulk and the weight of the laptop.

My laptop closes fine with my Radtech screen guard. I never had a problem with keys leaving an imprint, but it is a little more protection and I use it to clean the machine. I like it better than the one provided by Apple because it is bigger and it does cover the keyboard and trackpad.

Sorry, I mean when I have the iSkin keyboard protector on, placing another fabric screen guard on top of it prevents the screen to be closed properly.

i personally have invisible shield for my ipod, and it works wonders! WONDERS! definitely saves it from need of a big bulky case.

and iskin seems ideal for the keyboard, i'm currently using the foam sheet that came with the laptop as protection for the screen. does the iskin collect alot of dust?

and for cases, i've really liked ZeroShock cases, they use a special memory form that doesn't mold as rapidly, making for a more stable grip on the laptop.

So the Radtech is that much thicker so that the MBP closes normally with the iSkin but not with the cloth? That is the only thing I didn't order, just cuz I figured I'd use my foam sheet.

I just got both my iSkin's yesterday: The new Arctic FX with printed keys for them to stand out and be sharp (not blurred) by the transparent silicone and the standard clear Arctic, so that the full keyboard light will shine thru in darker settings. I liked both for different reasons, and couldn't make up my mind! :D

Because of the non-slip surface of silicone, it does retain dust a little. (But I don't mind knowing that none of that dust will ever get through the key to inside my MB). The best part is you can wipe and even wash the cover as often as you want.

I have both too, one for my 2.0 MB, and one for my wife's Rev A MBA.

Yes, you definitely want to keep it as squeaky clean as possible. Washing with warm soap and water then air drying is the key to making it "grip" to the keyboard with no sliding.

is it too much to have the radtech cloth and the iskin key cover? is that too thick for the laptop to close? cuz i'm gonna be installing a Invisible Sheild as well, and even though that's a very minimal thickness, it would add up?

how thick is the radtech....?

Yeah, that's what I was wondering too (and what I asked a few posts up). I will also have both the iSkin and the Invisible Shield. But the iSkin (keyboard) and Invisible Shield (handrest/trackpad) part do not overlap, so the only thickness to consider is the iSkin + the Radtech cloth. One poster above said they had a problem with both on there, due to the precision alignment of the unibody machines when closed.

...the iskin model for a MacBook Aluminum 13'3" is the ProTouch FX, correct?

All the MacBooks since Nov. 2007, the new MacBook Pros out now, and all MacBook Airs use the exact same keyboard design/shape. So you just need to get the recent version of the iSkin ProTouch. The only difference is the standard one (that they always made) is translucent so you can see the illuminated keyboard better if you have one, which is why I bought the translucent Arctic. The FX is the name for the new line with printed white letters on black keys, and the spaces in between keys are still Arctic translucent. iSkin told me that this might block some of the illuminated keyboard, but it looks really sharp and the lettering is not blurred like it is with the completely translucent. So I got both for each reason.

If you have the pre-October MacBook Pro or the earlier MacBooks, PowerBooks or iBooks, they make iSkin ProTouch for those too. To clarify, "iSkin" is the company name (they make covers and cases for all sorts of things) and "ProTouch" is the name of all their keyboard covers.

Got my carbon fiber on.

Honestly... Eh.

The material is really damn nice, but it's just really hard to work with around corners and whatnot. I'd like to think that due to my experience with modeling and whatnot I'm very handy with a hobby knife and I could pull this off better than the average person but it's all very meh at the moment.

Methinks I'm gonna pull this off before the night is over.

The material doesn't actually have that purple tint, just the only camera I have handy at the moment is my iPhone.

I just put on the total body coverage of the InvisibleSHIELD and I love it! Slight gloss, somewhat rubbery grip to it but crystal clear, tough as nails, and does not curl up or lose it's stick, even on edges and corners. I highly recommend it. If you don't want to install it yourself, it may be worth it to pay $20 for them to do it at a shopping mall cart or Mac repair shop. Installing the large top sheet was a little traumatic for me, LOL.

you wouldn't have pics of the printed keys illuminated do you? I definitely want a keyboard cover as the black keys look horrible with fingerprints all over them. I just can't decide which one now that you posted that. :)

LOL, I'm handling a lot of things and taking care of other business before I sit down and migrate over to my new MacBook Pro. I am also awating my 400/800 adapter so I can use Target Disk Mode to do it. I just got most of the InvisibleSHIELD put on and waiting to see if the tiny micro-bubbles dissipate or if I want to re-do it. I'm still receiving some final orders and am gonna order the ScreenSavrz cloth on Friday (seeing if there are sales) and a couple things on pre-order & back-order. I'm working on setting up my AirPort Extreme Base Station with the special Air Mount high on the wall but horizontal.

I got a lot going on now so I like to build up and crack it open when I'm good and relaxed. This may be strange, but I haven't even opened the iSkin or turned on the MacBook Pro, but I love the anticipation and all the reading and research and stuff I ordered for it! :D

I just got the iskin Protouch, and yes it does block out the light, the letters are printed on, and i don't knwo why they didn't make it translucent... so it's kinda annoying.

I might opt for another one instead, so i can utilize the back light

gonna get the radtech thsi week, so so i'll inform if it makes a difficuty closing.

Well you could have simply ordered the Arctic translucent one instead of the "FX". I got both because one is better for backlight and the other looks sharp and clear in lit environments.

Look forward to your results with both the cloth and ProTouch.

I don't have Radtech so I have no idea, sorry. But I did try it with both that black cloth Apple supplied and this piece of cloth that you normally use to clean your glasses, which is actually thinner than that black cloth. Still wouldn't close properly... so unless that Radtech is extremely extremely thin....

Not sure what the definition of "properly" is , but I close mine with the iSkin protector on right now and temporarily with the insert that comes with the original packaging. Seems to work fine for me. And a contact at RadTech said they can send any thickness of ScreenSavrz if you need a different thickness, from 0.3 to 5.0 mm, though I wouldn't want it so thin it wears or rips easily. I"m also considering getting those Portectorz custom-made for the new MBP. Silicon plugs that seal off unused ports to protect from dust and other elements. They're (relatively) cheap and may be worth it just to be ultra-protected; they are on their website here: https://www.radtech.us/Products/Portectorz.aspx

Reporting back with a follow-up...

I got my ScreenSavrz cloth yesterday and I really like it. However, I must admit one thing: with my new MacBook Pro-customized Zagg InvisibleSHIELD total body coverage, iSkin ProTouch silicone keyboard protectors, and the RadTech ScreenSavrz cloth all on my precision unibody notebook at the same time, the revolutionary magnetic catch doesn't quite stay shut as easily when on its side or upside down. But I tested it also with just one of each at a time, and there is still some loss of magnetic power. With all three, you really have to keep it horizontal, but that's okay because when I'm using it I won't care and when it is stowed or carried I ordered the new new Booq Vyper M3 form-fitting custom case that fits like a sleeve (cushioned on the inside and rigid ballistic nylon on the outside), so it will keep it all together held in place, and still slide into my outer carrying case compartments easily. Since there is no "one contributing factor" to the closure issue I'll just keep the regular ScreenSavrz instead of sending it back for a thinner one. However, I didn't really test it out well before installing the InvisibleSHIELD skin around the wrist wrest and trackpad, and that alone may have caused some loss of magnetic attraction. It's when you add the ScreenSavrz and/or the iSkin that there is a substantial difference though

Hope this helps.... by the way, has anyone tested the latch/closure with the naked MacBook out of the box and then with just the InvisibleSHIELD (trackpad/wrist wrest area specifically)? Too late for me to try that now, but I would be curious to know if even that thin membrane impairs the magnetic closure, even before the RadTech and iSkin is added.
