Um, I think EVERYBODY is missing the truth here (the accessory makers, MacRumors, the forum people, everybody). The truth is that Apple will be coming out with a 30-pin to 9-pin ADAPTER that makes old accessories work with the new 9-pin connector. NOBODY will be left hanging at all this holiday season. Not customers, not accessory makers, nobody.

The adaptor will take up space, and the iPhone 5 will be taller. I doubt an iPod stereo systems will work with an iPhone 5 using an adaptor.

This is obvious.

Apple wants to lock them out for a predetermined period, so they can capitalize on sales of every accessory that has the new connector.

Then once Apple has sold to all the early adopters, the must have enthusiasts, etc, then and only then will they allow the accessory manufacturers to get involved.

Apple is the master of power & control :)

Oh come on. There are accessory makers that have the spec to the new connector. They're just the ones smart enough to not go blabbing to a blog.

It will depend on how the iPhone fits into the accessory.

Here is an example of an adapter used with a speaker dock. Many iPod speakers are open on the top... so the taller iPhone shouldn't be a problem.

Of course, but some docks do not do that. I'm just saying that it's not like the other guy said; not all accessories will still work.

And that's why I said "it depends" :D

It's funny though... if you bought a speaker dock that the iPhone fits into... and it's based on the exact dimensions of the iPhone... and you're gambling on the fact that those dimensions will never change... that might have been a bad purchase.

I mean... did people really think Apple would keep the iPhone 4 shape and size forever?

Luckily... many iDevice speaker docks are open on the top... so it might not be that much of an issue. Or you can always sell your old speaker dock... there will still be people using 30-pin iPhones for a while.

But yeah... there might be some accessories that are left out in the cold. I guess that's to be expected.

Who buys these accessories and which ones? I bought one iPod accessory ever and it was the Griffin iTrip, 5 years ago.

Who cares? Most iPhone owners won't be buying new phones and how much more crap that we barely use does anyone really need?

Most won't be buying?

Apple has said their goal is to have each version of the iPhone sell as many as all previous versions combined. So far, this has been true. So yes, most iPhone users will be buying new phones. Especially after contracts expire.

I don't think Apple can force users to upgrade....unless..

They send Apple Geniuses with guns to iPhone owners homes..

The best thing for APPLE to do is to convince carriers to 'early upgrade' iphones

Noting the time required to manufacture and ship new products, the sources suggest that new iPhone-specific electronic add-ons will likely miss the upcoming holiday season, apart from whatever accessories are released by Apple itself.

..enough said? lol.. not like Apple wants to leave all the accessories profits to 3rd parties..

of course, like some have said, maybe the companies that have the specs are the ones that aren't talking.. surely Apple has made a blacklist and whitelist of leaky companies by now..

Er...

Right away. They won't be buying new iPhones right away this year, giving accessory manufacturers plenty of time to get their crap out.

Current iPhone users might not be buying the next iPhone right away... but somebody will.

Case in point: the iPhone 4S sold four million in the first weekend... and that was basically just a re-release of the iPhone 4. Were most of those sales to iPhone 4 users? Who knows. But the point is... Apple sold millions right away.

The next iPhone will have a larger screen and LTE. I'm pretty sure people are gonna buy a ton of them... right away!

You're right in that accessory makers will have to retool for the new dock connector... but don't doubt the fact that this next iPhone will sell millions upon release. It will probably be the largest release the iPhone has ever had.

The accessory makers know this... and they will all be racing to have their new products out as soon as possible.

I mean... the first speaker dock with the new dock connector that appears on the cover of the Best Buy ad... yeah... people are gonna buy it.

The accessory makers want the first-mover advantage in regards to the new dock connector.

I just bought 4 USB wall chargers and 4 Dock Connector to USB adaptors from a Chinese seller on eBay for $9.56 (free shipping) :D:D:D:D

Normally, I avoid Chinese knockoffs because they steal (patented) ideas, but Apple sells Dock Connector to USB adaptors and DC power adaptors for MacBooks at ridiculous prices.

There are really really good reasons not to buy power adaptors from generic Chinese knockoff factories. Because they won't have been safety certified, and you can be certain that they will have cut corners on the things you need to avoid powerspikes, burnout and potentially deadly shorting.

Since when does Apple make accessories (besides the plug itself)? Go on Apple.com and I don't see 1 set of docking speakers they make.

I don't understand, why are you talking about users being "forced"? Unless it was internet sarcasm that didn't make it to me.

Apparently people are so dry they can't take a joke.

Anywho, since you're that type...the thing is a lot of people are on two year contracts and there's a chance a lot won't upgrade. That's why, even though Apple wants all the sales to beat the previous ones combined, there's always a change it won't happen.

"They are all simply designing product based on their best guesses from what has leaked so far".

This says it all

Is that brown or just a bad pic.

The new dock connector is a bad idea - Apple should stick to a standard like USB or HDMI.

Yes the dock connector can do something beyond what USB/HDMI can, but nothing that can't be overcome.
