I've been having this problem, and also with a USB Extension cable in use. Going to try without an extension for a few days and a different extension cable. Other places I plug it in report no problems, so far. Hope it's just the extension cable causing the problem.

From what I was told by a genius the 6 and 6+ draw more power from the PC and there is something in place on some PCs to prevent things from drawing too much. This explains why I get the error when charging from my computer but not when using the wall charger.

My issue ended up being the block. I tried multiple cables and actually narrowed it down to the block itself.

Hi All

I received my iPhone 6 a few days back and used the supplied charger/cable combo. On my first and second days with the phone my Daughter took it off the charger before I woke up to play games. On the third day when I woke up I saw the dreaded "This Accessory May Not Be Supported" and the phone was at 100% but was not charging for several hours (seen in usage)

I had my USB extension cable plugged in, so I figured it was that and removed it. Now today I wake up and see the same message!

I am curious if this could be a problem with my phone, or just have Apple swap out the charger/cable. This is a bit frustrating as I do not have too much spare time to go down to the local genius bar. I spoke to Apple Care and they say its better to go in person so they can diagnose the phone first.

Anyone else have this issue? Could there be another cause for this error even though I never received it on my 5S using the oem cable and aforementioned USB extension cable?

Thanks in advance!

Ever since I updated to the latest iOS 8.1 I get this ON EVERYTHING! Only time it doesn't do this is when connected directly to my laptop....it does it with brand new cables too...it only does it when my iPhone 6 gets to 99% charged so I guess its really not that big of a deal. I think the handshake process with Apple's charging hardware is to blame for this, its way too complex, other devices you just plug in and they charge but Apple always has to add in some complexity....its just a pain...hoping in the future an update fix's this.

Get the same message but only when it's reaches 100% charge and has been on 100% for a little while.

This is using an official Apple Lightning lead and Apple charger.

Mine is a 6 but a friend at work doesn't get this on his 6+

It is a pain, and I was hoping that 8.1 would fix it, to no avail. One day I will just take the charger and cable to Apple and see if those might be faulty. It sure is annoying.

Must be something with the 6's. Again maybe Apple would be able to remedy this with a new charger/lightning cable

That is my exact issue! When it hits 100% I get the error message. Hopefully a new cable will help!

I just got my plus and have the same issue. When it hits 100% I get the accessory not supported message. Yes, cable is ca little messed up but had no issues on my 5. Thought it was because I left screen on but maybe it cuts off at 100%

Just go to a Genius Bar. They have been good about replacing them for me.

Probably don't even need to do that. Just go to a Specialist near the accessory wall and explain. If it's within warranty and hasn't been obviously mangled through misuse, then they should just replace it for you.

iPhone 6+ charging "Accessory May Not Be Supported" error.

I had the exact same problem with my new iPhone6+. I played around with it a bit and noticed that it would charge, albeit very slowly, if I turned it off while plugged in. At the same time, I received the same error message when connected to my computer, although the data connection worked perfectly. If I turned the phone off while connected to my computer, it also charged very slowly.

I tried the same cord and block with an iPhone5, and it worked with no problems. I tried the iPhone5 cord and block with my new iPhone6+ and it did not work.

I tried both soft and factory resets, and neither fixed the problem.

I took it to the Sprint store today, and they informed me that it was not reparable. Because it is the 64GB version, none were in stock, so they have to return the phone for an exchange. They suggested that I try to go to an Apple Store, although the odds that they had a replacement in stock were also slim to none.

It was described to me as being an "out-of-the-box defect", though none of the employees in the store had seen this problem before. They couldn't explain the cause of the problem either.

I was having a similar issue using my speaker dock with my 6 Plus. It's an Altec Lansing Octiv Mini but it has the old 30-pin connector so I use the cable version of the 30-pin to Lightning adapter. The cable is stationary and doesn't move very much except when I plug it in at night to play Ambiance. My 5s was fine so I attribute it to the higher power draw of the 6 Plus. I'd unlock the phone in the morning and it had a 100% charge but said "Charging is not supported with this accessory" or something to that effect.

After about a month and a half it stopped happening and hasn't happened since. I have decided to upgrade the dock however to a JBL OnBeat Micro which I got for $25 on eBay shipped. This way I can dock my iPhone again like I did with my iPhone 4 and hopefully this will no longer be an issue.

Sad to see the Altec go into retirement but it has had a long life. I got it as a demo model from Best Buy (imagine the abuse it incurred there!) and has served its purpose playing 8-10 hours almost every night for the last 4 years.

Has anyone had any luck with this? I had this issue on my 6+, after reading this thread, I took it to the Apple store and they replaced it with a new one, but now I have the same issue on the new one as well

I also have seen this with the iPhone 6 plus, whether plugged-in using the apple charger (OEM) charger and cable or to a computer via USB, once it reaches 100% it will give the error message. Given how many people are seeing this I wonder if it is a software problem on iPhone 6(p) devices as others have gotten a replacement and are having the same error occur.

Same Problem but with any charge--fixed by cleaning out lint

I experienced the same issues. Accessory May Not be Compatible or something like that. I was using the cable that came with the phone, as well as one in the car that I bought directly from ATT. Sometimes I would plug it in and it wouldn't recognize the charger at all. Any time the phone moved in the car it would disconnect and I would get the error message and it was getting to the point where I couldn't use hey Siri for directions in while driving (since it doesn't work when it's not plugged in). In the end I cleaned out the lightning port, removed a lot of lint for just a few weeks, and noticed that the cable is much more snug now. Even cleaned the cable still has some side to side wiggle room. Didn't have an iPhone 5 or 5s, jumped directly from the 4s to the 6. Anyone know if the 5 experienced similar problems?

I would definitely say a software issue as mine charges perfectly, battery lasts extremely well and only does it when it's reached 100%!

Same happens with OEM charger and lead as well as a Belkin lead I use as well.

Doesn't bother me if it all functions correctly as it charges fine. It'll stop after an iOS update I'm sure! ;)

It sounds like a bad cable. I was getting that error message, and then a few weeks later every time I plugged it in, OS X was throwing out an error message that it was drawing too much power.

This is major flaw in IOS 7 +, it happen on my 5 with OEM cables. When I bought my 6+ at the apple store, and needed a car charger with a black cable, I got the Einstein to get the Manager and vouch for a year warranty over the standard 14 days. Manger guy acknowledged the issue and says they are working on updates because the stores are getting a lot of traffic on it.
I think its BS.

From what I was told by a genius the 6 and 6+ draw more power from the PC and there is something in place on some PCs to prevent things from drawing too much. This explains why I get the error when charging from my computer but not when using the wall charger.

This seems to be what I am experiencing as well. It only happens on my PC.

Hi I've recently sold my samsung Galaxy s5 and purchased the new iPhone 6 second hand, now they told me that there charger was rooted and if need to buy another, I purchased what they claimed to be a "genuine" lightning charger and have been getting the same issue at 100% but just recently it's started to do it at 75% and Its quite alarming, I am wondering if I need to call apple in search of a replacement or can I take it into the place It was purchased (purchased from a network provider) and seek replacement there?

Also I was wondering if the fact that I'm using a 10w USB adapter that came with an old iPad instead of the smaller 5w USB adapter that comes with the iPhone 6 will make this message come up or not?

Very stressful and would appreciate any help thanks.

Try cleaning the Lightning port with a toothpick.

I occasionally received the same message on my car charger, and just assumed that it was because that charger used a third party cable. But, it also started showing up occasionally on Apple cable/charger. One of the other threads on this topic suggested cleaning the port with a toothpick, so I decided to give it a try.

I carefully inserted a toothpick into the port, and wound up digging out a huge wad of pocket lint! Apparently, that lint got tightly packed into the port while I carried the phone in my pant pocket everyday for a year and a half. And this was after I'd already tried blowing compressed air into the port.

Since cleaning out the port last month, I've not seen that warning message pop up.

Getting this error on my iPhone 6 since 8.2 and 8.3 when it hits 100% plugged into my PC with Window 7, wall and car chargers are fine though.

Tried everything:

new genuine cables
diff PCs on Windows 7
loaded the ASUS AI charger drivers
cleaned the lightening cable port
restore as new
force and hard reboot
resetting all network settings

EDIT:
To trigger this error instantly, if I'm charging my S5 or transferring massive DATA from my HDD to my portable HDD. It's a voltage error readings from iOS 8.2 and onwards, never happened with iOS 8.0.

UPDATE:

Indeed this is a iOS update voltage problem, once the warning appears the charge stops and when you shutdown your PC, the charge resumes. It gets quite HOT after 2 hours
