Any update on this? I still am holding onto my phone to see what happens.

If they are just sitting idle, nothing may happen for awhile. The systems will flag it when you make a change that touches that phone ie if you activate it before you go to sell it, etc so you might as well try now. I don't see them willing to take back a phone if you're way outside your return window.

Keep both, but cancel the credit card used, so they can't charge anything for the second one.

Sell for profit.

Great advice until Verizon kills the ESN on the one or both of the phones. This isn't like AT&T and SIMs; Verizon knows who purchased which serial number, so even if you cancel your credit card, I'm assuming your name and billing address are still correct. If you sell it to someone on craigslist/eBay and they get hit having to pay retail, I wouldn't be surprised to see a letter arrive in your mailbox.

So I called Verizon on two separate days to explain the situation and ask if it was okay to give the phone to a friend. I asked if I would be charged, and if the ESN's were clear. They both said it is not a problem, and I had them annotate the notes with the MEID confirming that they authorized me to give/sell the phone to someone and would not be charged. Do you think now I am safe to sell the phone, and if I was charged for some reason, I would be able to fight it? I have confirmation from two separate employees, so I should be fine now right?

How exactly did you explain the situation? Did you tell them that I received 2 phones at upgrade pricing by accident as I only have 1 line?

I still think as soon as whoever goes to activate the 2nd phone, that's when their systems will note the conflict and the ball starts rolling.

As long as Verizon is in the right, they will allow a manager/supervisor to override front line support since the latter doesn't have the authority to grant you 2 phones at upgrade pricing.

yes you're fine, it's not that big of a deal no reason to be paranoid.

Get anything they tell you in writing. I'm a nurse, if if isn't documented it isn't done. You can't defend any changes if all you have are verbal assurances.

I made both representatives annotate the account saying I was calling in to confirm that I would not be charged any extra money if I were to sell the phones.

You didn't answer the question, though, did these 2 agents know exactly what happened, ie you received 2 phones at upgrade pricing by mistake as you only had 1 line to upgrade?

If you get caught and they charge you full retail, you'll end up breakeven to a slight loss, as CL posted prices are ~$50 above retail pricing *not* including tax (which you would have paid).

The rub is instead of charging you, they extend your buyer's contract upon activation 2 more years vs keeping him on a month/month. That could get messy, as I'm sure the buyer will be back to you in a hurry asking for a refund and who knows if Verizon will be sympathetic enough to undo his contract extension, etc.
