ok... so the replacement battery did not help...

Did I mention that the battery light meters don't work either?

I might just sell this MacBookPro7,1 with 250G HDD for parts as is.
It works on MagSafe just fine...

I think that may be your best option. It might be useful for someone to use as a desktop replacement or a media centre.

I feel bad that this happened to you but thank you for posting this mistake as I was thinking of using my pocket knife to disconnect the battery cable.

I'm not sure how much Apple would cover on this but maybe take it by an Apple store to look at. You may be surprised at how inexpensive it is.

I had an issue with some inverter connecting my logic board to my display a few years back. MacBook had been out of Apple Care for a couple of years now, so I was looking at doing it myself. There were 2 possible causes, both totally about $100 in parts, not to mention any other equipment I needed to get in there and the time involved.

I called up Apple and was quoted $50 for parts and labor to repair it. So I took it in, and, long story short, ended up paying $0 for it and having the top case and bezel replaced because they were cracked.

I might do that... This was a friends machine and he didn't like OS X and we traded a Dell laptop. I really needed this machine for my business and talked my wife into agreeing to it as a business deal. We use a Mac mini now but having a laptop would be easier (We are mobile DJs).

This whole thing has made me sick... A replacement logic board is like 250 on eBay or amazon.

Don't get sick over it. That's just more mess to clean up. Live and learn. You'll have a nice story to tell, especially if Apple wows you.

No wow... They said the MBP has liquid damage all over the board and thus would not look at it further. $750 for replacement logic board...
There are no signs of liquid damage actually on the board, just the sensors triggered. But who knows, maybe there had been liquid contact in the past.

It's now my new desktop machine...

SMBus Battery/Charger issues too..

I have a MacBook issue, but since this part of the architecture is similiar and all the techies seem to hang out in the MBP forum, I hope you don't mind me asking here.

I have several A1342 boards that will not start on battery, but will start with the magsafe attached. After starting this way, ASD is able to verify all the other sensors, so the other SMBus/I2c are working. On observation, it appears the SMBus Battery is not working properly. I see the clock signals, but the data line is stuck high. The pull up resistors check out fine. I have also changed the charger chip (ISL6258) but the problem remains. Is it time to declare the SMC data line shot, or am I missing anything? It seems strange that I would have so any boards that exhibit the same problem.

sorry dude... I have done stuff like that before with my radio controlled helicopters... just doing something you always do and wham you make a stupid mistake. Hopefully you can find another on the cheap :)

That is very decent of them. Hopefully it solves the issue.

If it does not then you are looking at a repair that is best left in the hands of an expert. The SMC is a BGA package which requires special equipment to replace. The battery charger ISL6259 is a 28 pin QFN package that requires very good soldering skills, a good hot air tool, very fine tip soldering iron, and a microscope. I replace those but not without some difficulty.

You might be able to use one of those eBay repair services. Don't have any to recommend because I have never used them.

Good luck.

Man I think I did the same damn thing. I never opened up my computer before. Used a flathead screwdriver to disconnect the battery. Do you perhaps have an idea about how much this would all cost to fix?

A relevant bump of a five year old thread? That’s amazing :D I don’t know the answer, just surprised.

Did that with my 2012 MBP 2 years ago and Apple asked for about $500 for a full logic board replacement. I decided to keep the MBP in my closet.
