How do you actually start to tether though?? I went to the site and installed the new profile (i have had the adhoc profile before) but now what??? I went to bluetooth and tried to find devices, but it just kept spinning..

So once the profile is installed, how do you go about attaching to your macbook?

I'd restart the phone.
Make sure it is paired over bluetooth.
And then from your bluetooth icon in the menu bar select the device and "connect to network".

weird thing going on.. i restarted the phone and ever since I insalled that profile, my phone would not hold a connection to my home wireless. I would connect and put in my password, then two minutes later it would show connected to EDGE and then i would go to wifi settings and it would say NOT CONNECTED and I would have to connect all over again..

I have a 3G iphone

this method no longer works if you try to install it today. I have tried more than 5 times and it has never worked, even though it shows the profile installed.

Anyone else know any other method to do this?????

You could at least read back through the thread!

There are three ways of changing the ipcc info on your 3.0 iPhone.
1) Use the beta copy of iTunes - and a suitable ipcc file.
2) Use the *current* version of iTunes (after typing
defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE
into the terminal)
and finally...
3) Visit this site (ben.at/help) with Mobile safari and grab it directly onto your iPhone.

it works!

I just went to the site on my 3g iphone right after I updated to 3.0 using itunes.

I have a few questions though. How do I use MMS with ATT? you just have some things to copy but where do I paste it?

I see AT&T was added today for the MMS section, but it's just the info to type in manually. Is there a way to get the network settings area without the hacked carrier file?

I just used to site and tethering works for me now.

In fact..I am actually on my laptop tethered to my iphone right now.

I've gotten better before...don't know what is up right now.

It was one of the easiest things I've done in my life...I don't see how people are having so many problems.

yeah, mine's slower than yours, it's like 1 meg download and 136 kbps upload.

It'd be easier if the tethering directions were in english, but yeah, it's simple.

if you have problems with the mobileconfigs, you can remove all installed mobileconfigs and RESET the network settings. this should also reset all visual voicemail problems some at&t customers have. also it can be a new chance to activate the MMS Settings after installing a mobileconfig again!

I must be blind, I cannot find a the place to enter the info for MMS to work, any help?

for the tethering on my 3G S....i see it gives you the settings that you would have to input yourself...how do i do that? sorry, im not very tech savvy

tethering is a file that you download from your iPhone and it works great! I just can't seem to find a place to enter the MMS info.

Finally got my 3GS to connect via BT for tethering. Had to click connect on the MacBook Pro AND connect from the phone. Then it works great, even faster than USB for some reason.
