Yes you do. You have to activate it on the line with the upgrade first to accept the terms of contract/service. If you don't you'll be billed the full price of the phone. Then you could do whatever you wanted with it (activate on other plan/account or sell it).

Read my post above. Apparently this was the case not too long ago, their policy has recently changed.

Now you're positive about this?

I just got off the phone with Verizon. The woman spoke to seemed knowledgeable and sure of herself. Considering that i've called multiple times and not one rep has told me I needed to activate the phone on the other persons account, I'm sure.

So anyways don't power your iPhone on if you wanna activate it on another line. You must change the imei number to your account before you do so.

This. If the upgrade is for her as soon as you power up that bad boy the system is going to automatically port her number over. I'm not sure how you are going to skip this step unless you spend a lot of time with rep in person or on the phone. Switching phones between different accounts will take a little more effort and require authorizations from each party.

Im gonna get the imei from the back of the phone and activate the iphone on my line before i power it on. That way no nano sim needed

Verizon said to log into their site, add the IMEI to your account, then activate the phone. As far as the SIM goes for LTE, you either have to wait 24 hours for it to be switched over, or you have to go into the store and get a new (free) nano SIM. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like any of my area VZW stores have the nano SIM cards.
