I am sure this has been asked many times... but it’s not been lost or stolen ..

My father has a degenerative neurological condition.... the iPad was used for a speech app , as he can no longer speak or write.
Something got messed up and it has been disabled , I had to connect to iTunes to fix. I said it needed a SW update, which was done.

Now it has an activation lock, we don’t know the full email address (apple id) as it was never used for email ... except on the initial setup , which has now been unfortunately been forgotten. Apart from the bit that is masked out ....

Tried to find out the apple id from name , date of birth, but that doesn’t help...

It was purchased new, but not from an apple store.

Is it now just a doorstop ... or could apple unlock it ...?

Thanks

A receipt and a call to Apple might be enough to solve your problem. Give 'em a call. Maybe they might be able to help with the lost AppleID as well.

I'll bet you the activation email address is probably the AppleID as well. That might help.

We have the original box, proof of purchase etc... so hopefully.... Will give it a go.
Let me know if you run into any troubles. With proof of purchase Apple will unlock device.
Fill out online form and turn off iPad, 72 hours later device will be unlocked ( current world happenings may increase unlock time by a few days at most ).

Apple were great on the phone... Understood the problem...
Send us the Origial Purchase Email, Paypal Email and a copy showing the Bank statement withdrawl ...

I sent all these ... But ......

Unfortunaltly this was purcased from a large Ebay electronics reseller ... and the Serial number was not on the

Ebay Transaction, Paypal , or bank statement ... so looks like we are stuffed ! Or am i misreading the email ?

As the reseller is nolonger trading on ebay as of about a month ago ...

Hi Mark,

Thank you for contacting us.

The information we received was not sufficient for us to process your request. To show proof of ownership of your product, provide all documentation showing your purchase of the device.

If you do not have additional proof of ownership, contact the reseller. They may be able to provide the original purchase document.

The device's serial number or IMEI must be on the document. If neither the serial number nor the IMEI is on your document, write the number on the document reflecting the purchase of the device.

Well, it's not looking good. Does that reseller have its own website/storefront that you may be able to contact for help?

I am so sorry. Unfortunately, the combination of the forgotten/unknown AppleID, a receipt without the serial/IMEI number and missing EBay seller will check the ALL the boxes for NOT unlocking a device.

I sadly recommend recycling the iPad for free via Apple Recycle program:

“If neither the serial number nor the IMEI is on your document, write the number on the document reflecting the purchase of the device.”

Did you try writing the number on the receipts and resend?
