Just got my first bill and it was over $50 higher than my previous one. Not only did they charge me an activation fee after telling me it'd be waived, but the taxes and fees are $9.66. If they can't reduce this I'm going to cancel. There's no way its worth $20/mo.

The activation fee these companies charge is such bs. They don’t have to do anything. It’s all computerized. I don’t think T-Mobile charges one, at least I hope not.

Give it a month to settle. AT&T will eventually apply credit to your bill for the activation fee and 3 months of service. When I added connected car to my Audi, the additional charges were roughly the same for the first month (~$25). By the second month, the price dropped to around $12.

I talked to AT&T. The first rep had no clue what I was talking about. I finally got a supervisor and they confirmed I'd be getting the activation fee and 3 months of service credited back in 2-3 billing cycles. They also said the taxes/fees were so high because of the half month of prorated use but even without that it looks like the fees will be about $5.50/mo. Over $15/mo after fees really has me on the fence about the watch now. I feel stupid thinking it would just be a flat $10 charge. Of course they'd find way to sneak a bunch more charges in.

Note for all: I’ve never understood why it takes the carriers 3 months for credits to apply to your bill. There’s no reason why it should not apply to your account in 3 minutes. Ridiculous!

Absolutely agree - total nonsense.

The $10/month is nonsense itself. The watch is sharing the same number as the phone ($40/mo). I pay $10/mo for my iPads, which DO consume a lot of data, unlike the watch, which is tied to my phone.

Taxes. You’ll get credit back for 3 months of service and the activation fee but you won’t get a credit for the taxes included with those charges.

I got my first bill yesterday and to my surprise it showed two new apple watches. I only have one watch so I called to see what was up and they took the extra one off but were not able to explain why it was there or where it came from. They had different phone #s and different device ID #s but both IMEI #s were the same.

The taxes and fees are $9.66 based on a $40.67 expenditure. ($25 + $10 + $5.67)

You paid $5.67 for the first partial month, and $10 for the second month.

Next month, it will be $10 plus about $2 for taxes, surcharges and fees.

Plus, you'll get a deduction of the $40.67 you paid within a few months. (Plus $14.33 more).

The first bill is not indicative at all of what you will pay going forward.

Such crap. Three months free trial should be just that. No taxes, no fees and NO we’ll charge you during the free trial period but then credit you down the line. Why do we put up with this? I’m personally on T-Mobile so I can cancel the service at any time. I don’t think they will charge me for the trial period, but I haven’t received a bill yet.

I'm not sure how other carriers are doing it but AT&T is actually adding another line for the watch along with its own phone number. Then it's tied to your phone's number with their Numbersync service. The watch has its own number and line on my bill however.

Yeah well the order confirmation I got said $0 due and $0 added to 1st bill so you can imagine my frustration with $50+ in additional charges on my first bill.

I pointed that out to the rep I talked to and they couldn't tell me why the confirmation said that but they still couldn't change my bill.

@CJRhoades - thanks for the clarification on the phone line. VZW is probably doing the same thing. It still feels unnecessary and heavy-handed, but that's just an opinion.

Thanks to everyone who clarified these charges for us. My watch didn’t show up on my most recent statement so I’ll be getting the charges on the next one and it’s nice to know what to expect and also that it’ll change over a few months.

I agree that it’s incredibly stupid that “waiving the activation fee” isn’t really “waiving the activation fee” like one would think. Cell phone companies simply have everyone by the balls, in every way, shape, and form, and there’s nothing we can really do about it!

For me, if was a no brainer to get the LTE Watch. I had a free wearable line available on T-Mobile and decided to link my Apple Watch to this. My bill isn’t going up for the service.

And to answer an earlier question, yes, I am one of those people that does leave his phone at home on different occasions!

How?! Any tips on getting a free wearable on a T-Mobile One line?

Be aware when they offer a free line (like magenta Friday last year or early March this year). I participated in the DIGITS beta program. This allowed me to convert a DIGITS line of service into a free data line for life once the beta period expired and they went live for all.

For the record, the carriers don’t set the taxes and fees. Those are beyond their control and up to the various government entities. Different states have different tax levels.

Having said that, charging $7.99 would have been nice since it would have equated to close to $10 plus change for most people.

T-Mobile bundles the taxes into their price, so the companies can control what price they pass to the end user.

Huh okay, so it was a limited time promo, the watch also has voice does that still work with what you were talking about?

Yes. The voice side of things is included with the data cost. In my case because I participated in a beta program the line became free and available.

Aaaanddd this is why I bought a refurbished series 2. I would have bought a non-cellular series 3 but they don't sell those in stainless steel. I don't understand the practicality of LTE built-in, especially not when considering the $120+ fee per year and the shortened battery life. Plus a stupid red dot.

The 16GB of storage is reason enough for me to go LTE. The $120 a year is more than worth it for me. Love leaving my phone at home.

Anyone using the AW S3 LTE with T-Mobile successfully have them applied the 20% off hookup to bring down monthly cost to $8? The 20% hookup discount were gone last March but if you had it link to your account. It will be for life of as long as you are with them...

Not to be mean but people like you are the reason Apple’s lame “updates” are allowed to fly. They’ll never learn that they can’t do stupid stuff like this because people buy it all anyway.

People like different things. I don't think you understand it.

One person's lame update is a can't-live-without-it thing to someone else.

Yea double storage for $30 more than the old Series 2 pricing is a heck of a price also factoring the huge leap in CPU and the communications chip. This is the 3GS upgrade to the watch, it flies and LTE is game changer for me. So yea I’d pay more money for storage, but what got me super excited was LTE and that promise has delivered for me.
