I would say it is probably in the low 7GB range. My 16GB iPhone has a usable capacity of 14GB.

For a pocket PC, 6.5GB is plenty. If you need more, just store files in the cloud and access on demand.

Go with the 32gb or 64GB.

(I think my math is correct)) If you get a 8GB its like paying $40 per GB vs the 32GB $10 per GB.

    iOS4 is approximately 2GB. vs previous OS 3.1 1.5GB

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B118 Safari/6531.22.7)

    The 8gb has 6.5gb
    The 32 has 29
    And the 64 has 59

Honestly, if you're going to shoot any video at all, or consider putting movies, you should go with the 32GB.
    Just saying! :D

Well, it is not that bad. The above mentioned space is the available space for use on a brand new unit. Of course, it is hard to say how much space future updates of iOS would take.
