Generic comparisons of Apple to Leica is just a smokescreen, and an attempt to divert attention from complaints of many people specifically about the 2016 MBP in this forum.
If you have a 2016 MBP and it fits your wants, needs and your budget that's great. But it doesn't take away from the fact that there have been, and continue to be, a lot of people with complaints about them.

I am typing this on my 2013 MBA ultimate... and trying to determine in real world use what the difference is with my new 2016 stock 2.7 in silver. The 2016 is a work of art, and I bought one new cable for my phone and haven't even taken that out of the box. I used to do photography and use the SXDC port on this MBA every week - but now I take iPhone pictures and they are already on iCloud when I open the MBP.

Psyched about this and only even thinking about returns if it shows any odd behaviour.

If this is true, then something is defective with your unit.

I have the stock 13" Touch-Bar MBP, and absolutely love it.

Keyboard is great, size and design is wonderful. Battery life isn't an issue for me as it's mostly plugged in to the mains anyway. Touchbar is fun, and I'm sure will get more useful over time.

Overall, it's a thumbs up from me

I quite like my base non touchbar 13"

the gen 2 keyboard feels nice, hard to use rMB again after some time with this, but still I can totally use it haha

the screen is great, speakers are a good improvement though I guess I had unrealistic expectations after hearing what the 12" can put out,

seems fast enough, battery life good enough, and the trimmed bezels and weight reduction are nice

cool to not have plastic behind the hinge, and one continuous alu-min-eum, body like the 12"

also zero regrets on going silver after much internal debate,
I find it refreshing after space grey on my 12

I haven't seen that, but I've seen lots of people who will defend anything Apple does, and praise Apple's products without justification, to the annoyance of the community.

Haters aren't the ones who lied to me about the performance of Mac video cards and convinced me that one of the early MBPs would be able to run apps that it couldn't run. If the fanboys hadn't lied about the performance, I'd have spent about $2k less on that machine and not tried to run that stuff on it.

It was also a fanboy who, to "cleverly" show that my desire for an antiglare screen was stupid because Apple is always right, posted detailed instructions for utterly destroying a Thunderbolt display (including "sanding the screen"), which could probably have suckered someone into wrecking a $1k display. But it's okay, it'd only happen to bad and unworthy people, who don't want the glossy screens Apple wishes to sell.

The problem here is not the "haters".

I haven't seen anyone here make unrealistic claims or defenses about these new machines. I've been detailed in my usage for pro photography with the 13" model and I don't suggest it for serious video.

10 hours of battery is NOT happening unless you adjust the display and tasks to net you that time.

I tend to agree with the "haters" statement because the loudest complainers are generally silent when asked how the new Machines are limiting their work flow. In fact, just TWO people answered that question at all. Many don't have the machines and thus cannot judge the overall value of the enhancements.

I would have returned them in a heartbeat if they let me down and I had mine running heavy post processing software and RAW files within an hour of getting it out of the box. I don't waste time on gear if it's not up the task. My wife uses hers to run drug interaction spreadsheet software and it's the best machine she's had (her words). Both of us are professional users.

I would NEVER suggest a MacBook to anyone hunting for the highest frame rates or best graphics. That has NEVER been the focus of these machines.

I love everything about my 15" model. It did come with a small cosmetic blemish but Its so small I really have to look for it to find it. As a professional photographer its perfection for my needs and Ive experienced zero issues so far. Love the keyboard and love the trackpad.

The impression I get browsing these (and other) forums is that the 2016 MBP is a complete disaster and I would be better to burn my money in the garden and use the ashes to write on my walls.

I have a use-case for a 15-inch MBP but all the negativity has made me very wary of spending so much money on something that so many people seem to think is a lemon.

What's the truth? What are your real experiences with this thing? Particularly interested in base model 15-inch.

I got to use one recently for a few days and really don't like the keyboard. It's like typing on a piece of wood. The lack of ports is a PIA. You really do need dongles for everything unless you got the money to completely rebuy all your peripherals. The situation may be different 2-3 years from now, but that is not today. In the past Apple has always had a transition model that had a mix of contemporary and future ports that made the transition to new standards seamless and effortless. That is not the case this time around. I really miss MagSafe. I'm not a fan of the Emoji strip. In many cases it is slower and more awkward to use than just the mouse. It comes off as a poor, compromised solution from someone who was looking for an excuse not to go with a touchscreen. Apple can spin this anyway they want, but touch screens are the future and here to stay. I miss physical buttons for volume and brightness that could be operated by touch and muscle memory. The trackpad is unnecessarily big and you will subconsciously avoid leaning on it with your palms or wrists. I am disappointed by the 16GB RAM limit and of course it's soldered in, so buy all the overpriced RAM you're going to need upfront. I am one of those people who would have benefitted from a 32GB option. The soldered in SSD is pretty much a deal breaker for me. I've had SSD fail in the field and not being able to service the machine is not an option. It was bad enough that in the past Apple insisted on using a proprietary connector that offered no benefit except making it impossible for the user to buy a cheaper drive from a 3rd party. But this is a real step over the line. Apple bills itself as a green company, but now they are producing millions of motherboards that have to be thrown out if the most failure prone component in the entire computer goes bad. I guess they are only green until it affects the bottom line or the ability of Apple Design to shave off another millimeter of thickness from one of their devices. We now have USB-C / TB3, but I see no real support from Apple for things like an external GPU etc. which is a bit of a headscratcher. Battery life was mixed, but overall it did not seem as good as previous models.

The screen is terrific although it does not display P3 accurately. It's easily the best feature of the machine. USB-C / Thunderbolt3 is very fast if you have the dedicated hardware to take advantage of it. The sound is excellent and as usual the fit and finish is the best in the business. MacOS still is the easiest to use and most elegant OS on the market, but also being a Windows 10 user Apple better watch out, because MS is not asleep at the wheel anymore like they were under Balmer. Win10 still is more technical to use, but it gets a lot of things right and in some cases better than MacOS

Personally I will skip this version of the MacBook Pro and will maybe pick up a 2015 model while they are still around. The soldered in SSD is a real sore spot for me and the dongle juggle is ridiculous. The price hike is the tipping issue for me. $4300 for a fully decked out MacBook Pro plus dongles is ridiculous.

Maybe Apple will take some of the feedback in regards to this machine to heart, but I doubt they will. If they continue down this road my next machine will be either a Dell, Razor or Microsoft Surface.

My tbMPB is a 2.6/1GB/460 BTO

I Love it !
no issues at all

to be honest, the only things I slightly dislike are : the keyboard noise is a little bit too "clicky", the slightly cutting edges of the case, especially at the air entrance on the sides

Over that it is perfect and I love the comparison with Leica : when technic and luxury meets together

Nikon built their own manual style camera. It's slower to operate, and can require more time to get the most out of. But it has one of the best sensors on the planet (Same as in the flagship Nikon D4s in fact). So if you take your time, the effort is supported by a great sensor.
It still is like every other digital camera: it can operate fully automatic and fully manual. Leica only has half manual (there is aperture priority) or full manual so it forces you into shooting manual. That's the biggest difference.

The Leica sensor is not as capable. It has issues and dynamic range limitations. In the days of film we had a more level playing field, but this is no longer the case. Thus no level of build can fix what's wrong with my Leica. It's a special camera without a special sensor to support it.
Photography is not about specs but about actually taking pictures and for that you need a camera that operates nicely. That's what Leica is aiming for, not ultrahigh quality because just like with film, in the digital world there isn't much difference in similar sensors (not to mention that you can change a lot if you shoot RAW). The only difference is that you can change film but you cannot change a sensor (which is why RAW is a nice thing).

Really, Leica is a bad example to use here as well as being completely offtopic.

Generic comparisons of Apple to Leica is just a smokescreen, and an attempt to divert attention from complaints of many people specifically about the 2016 MBP in this forum.
This topic isn't about complaints (which funnily seem to be just a very small amount of people you see complaining in every thread about the new MBP; they are no more than a broken record now). No, this topic is about actual experiences from people who've bought and used the MBP 2016 for quite some time.

If you have a 2016 MBP and it fits your wants, needs and your budget that's great. But it doesn't take away from the fact that there have been, and continue to be, a lot of people with complaints about them.
And what you people need to learn is that very same thing about people who have good experiences with the product. There will always be people with no complaints whatsoever just as there will always be people who do have complaints. This applies to every service, company and product on the planet. There are NO exceptions.

Try having some respect towards others for a change. Just because someone has a good experience doesn't mean that there aren't any complaints nor does it mean that because you have a complaint that they suddenly need to start defending themselves. And yes, the opposite is also true. Again, try having some respect towards others for a change. Sad to see that it only took 2,5 pages to get at this stage again...it is time to start reporting the same set of people again...*sigh*

Now can we get back to actual experiences from people who own the MBP 2016? I'd like to read what my fellow MBP 2016 users think of it.

I own the 2016 15" model. The battery life is piss poor. I am getting 4 hours with just basic tasks such as browsing the web.

Sounds like something is up. Are you using the dGPU at all times by any chance?

Then something is wrong, for me the % drop by around 10 every hour of webbrowsing/watching netflix, so get 8-10 hours if i dont do work stuff

No, I am using gfxStatus and I am using iGPU. I have exchanged my machine twice and all of them have the same piss poor battery life.

4 hours just browsing the web at 70% brightness.
2 hours when running windows 10 in parallels (again just browsing the web, nothing intensive).

I thought that app was no longer developed and had issues with the new 2016 MBP. Would be careful with what that one does. How are you timing things?

Found something interesting on the gfxCardStatus Github page (under Issues): macOS Sierra – Compatibility Issues #240. The first post pretty much explains why your batterylife is so low. Near the end of the issue you can find a post with an updated version of gfxCardStatus which you may want to try. If that doesn't work I suggest uninstalling the software and see how batterylife is going.

Fully agree!

The problem I see in just about every thread is the overzealous fans who constantly put down everyone who says anything negative about the new machines.. They call them names, attack them, belittle them, badger them and say they are broke bums
Oh well......

Can you show me an example, please? I've been reading most of the flamed topics here and not once did I see anyone who was defending the machines calling anyone a "broke bum" for example. Not once. I didn't see anyone who likes these machines attack anyone either, or badger. I would like some proof.

What I did see, from people criticizing the MBPs:

1. Saying that people who like them drink koolaid
2. Telling that people who like them are zealous blind fanatics
3. Saying that people who use them that they are not pros, or "true" pros
4. Saying that people who like them are hipsters that only care about being seen
5. Calling people who like them shallow and vane
6. Calling people who like them ignorant

Also, from personal experience: my honesty, integrity and intentions were brought into question:

now find out they are of questionable honesty leaves little doubt to your lack of integrity and dubious intentions by hiding under some image of a genuine user.

I'm certainly glad I have only wasted these few lines on you, others may have not been so lucky

So, please, give me some examples where these "overzealous fans" constantly put down everyone. I have not seen one example. One. But I have seen constant attacks and ridicule directed towards anyone who likes these machines.

You have to be joking right? It's in every thread here almost.. If I had the time I could copy and paste so many I'd reach some type of post overload..

I assume you have to joking.....

Then it won't be hard to find one example.

I am not joking. I see insults directed at people who, as you say, "defend" the MBPs constantly. Calling them blind fanatics, ignorant hipsters and not true professionals.

I did not see one true insult directed towards the "other camp". So, since you claim there is so many - care to produce at least one?

I just gave you an example where I was basically called a liar without integrity. I can also quote people who said everyone who likes the new MBPs drinks koolaid.

So, show me anything at that level of insult coming from "the defending" side.

2016 nTB 13" 512 SSD 16Gb of RAM

They are amazingly thin beautiful machines with HORRIBLE batteries, thats my summation. I just decided to return it because its during the holiday season, and I can. So its kinda heartbreaking... but I would feel even more burned if I had a DUD computer with a horrible battery. Hopefully the 2017 MacBook Pros are coming soon... fingers crossed LOL!

Also Apple Decided to KILL eGPU on the 2016 TB3? Another WTF!
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macbook-pro-2016-egpu-support-mac-os.2010355/

So I am going to return it, type on my iPad and phone while sitting on the couch.. ARGH!!! and wait until Apple Fixes the batteries or they release a 2017 laptop and pretend like the Late 2016 never happened.. Which is probably going to be what they do, since Apple won't publicly address the issue. Also Apple Tech support and the returns department BOTH said the battery issue is a RUMOR.. which is hilarious, because I have been testing my nTB 13" since I opened the box and I can't get more than 6 hours. I just recently did a test with Netflx in Safari.. That only lasted a few hours.. I think 3 something. The battery life is advertised as 10!.

Selective reading and / or reading comprehension.............................. Typical!

Look up CaptRB post history and you will find these remarks in just about every post that as not already deleted by the mods...

At any rate, I am done having a conversation with you as you appear to be very, very, very one sided.. You like the computer and think it's the greatest thing since microwave popcorn so goof for you.. Enjoy it...

Have a nice day
