Hi. I am a Business Student at University of Washington. If I were to purchase the ADC for Student ($99), would Apple approved it? My friends, who were all in the Design School, got approved and they are currently planning to purchase the new Mac Pro this weekend. However, since I am a business student, would that affect my chance to get accepted?

I'm working on my MBA and they approved it. I placed my order the day it was refreshed and I got an e-mail later that morning stating my order had been processed.

Why on Earth don't people just take five minutes to read Apple's page about the program? It's in English and it's not hard to understand. This desire for hand-holding amazes me.

Hi, i'm a student developer, doing a phd.

I want to buy a mac pro and a macbook pro very soon. The macbook pro is the main machine i'll be using for work uni, but also the mac pro when i work from home (very often).

Anyway, what i can't figure out is - how much do i save if i join the ADC program (which costs £67), vs. just buying from the online store and getting the 'standard' edu discount when viewing it on uni campus?

I can't seem to find that info, can anyone help?

I'm in the UK by the way

Cheers

I dont know about uk but in us store its 20% for adc as opposed to 10% for edu

I guess if the discount is bigger than the standard edu discount, it's better to use that on my mac pro as it's the more expensive item.

Hey,

Well i joined the ADC for £67 and i just spoke to them on the phone.

Basically, you save a further £67 off the price of a mac pro, from the edu price! Well and £8 more :p

What i mean is - I got a quote for a mac pro + wifi + nvidia 8800 and it was only £75 off the standard EDU prices available on campus... but you get ADC membership essentially for free and save £8 on the MP... lol

I'm not bothered that i did it, but it hardly is worth it really, especially if people are trying to get discounts if they aren't genuinely students or developers or whatever...

Cheers

Thats interesting, I saved at least 300 USD more from the adc discount over edu

punishment for being british i guess eh

Yeah maybe. It is a $360 difference for the stock machine in the states. Since I bought my ADC before Leopard, I got a copy of Leopard for free so I just sorta write off the $99 I paid.

Interesting.

In Australia for the system I wanted:

Retail: AUD$4078.00 incl GST

Education: AUD$3770.50

ADC Student: AUD$3261.50

So I saved $AUD816.50

Less the $149.00 it cost me to enroll

Total saving = 667.50

Hello RAM!!

shipping time?

how long did it take for your ADC purchases to be sent to you? I was reading Apple's info on it and they said they will try to ship your purchase out within 4-6 weeks, but no guarantees. does it really take that long?

yeah, makes sense.. but didn't know if it actually happened that way. Anyone buy the new Mac Pro on an ADC account yet?

Was there any message as to why it was rejected? That seems really odd as I would assume your subscription would be 1-year from when you activated it, and should still technically get that discount.

Well, it is a student discount, and they are no longer a student.

for the non-student brits interested in this, the adc membership is about £270 plus vat. the saving on a standard build mac pro is about £270 and the upgrade to an 8800gt saves a further £15 so it's still more expensive than getting it as a normal consumer if you don't have need for a full(ish) adc membership. I was quite looking forward to the extra adc stuff alongside my bog standard free membership, but i'm a windows programmer by trade and only dabbling in xcode currently so i can't really justify it as an extra expense.

I ordered mine a few days ago with just a student discount not ADC

i wonder if i can somehow change this, i would save so much more money. (well a few hundred is a lot for a collegekid)

ordered mine on the 10th, got it same day. Thought I activated it but didnt fax in my ID, just gave the #. Ordered MP on 12th, today got an image saying I needed to activate. Faxed stuff in, called back 3 hours later, just activated. Waiting for Patti to call me back so she can ship my computer!!!

All in all, ADC = gold.

Depends what you ordered...if it's not too late, and hasn't shipped, then yes.

just spent about 45min on the phone with apple. 3 out of 3 people didnt even know what ADC was untill they put me on hold to ask their manager about it.

the best solution they came up with was to

-cancel my order.
-order adc.
-wait to verify im a student.
-finally reorder my macpro.

thats what ill be doing to save some cash.

It'll be worth the 300 ish dollars I'd expect in savings. I think it was about $200 additional over educational pricing for my MBP.

I joined ADC back in November and confirmed my status at that time. I placed an order for the Mac Pro last Tuesday and expect delivery of it tomorrow per FedEx.com.

I asked the Apple guy on the phone about this, he said it took no longer to send the mac pro's out than it normally does. He said 3-5 weeks with the 8800GT, no longer.

Cheers
