Add album artwork without Itunes

I have an external Mp3 player that is connected to my macbook, and I want to add all the missing album artworks without using Itunes, as Itunes screws that tags up and is very inconvenient. Is there some program that can just like read the files on my mp3 and is able to replace the album artwork without Itunes, I'll be fine if I have to do it manually. I have tried many things but none are able to effectively do the job without Itunes. Thanks

Export the files to Windows and paste pix using WinAmp?
Not very helpful, I know, but this has been a hard problem for years.
