Don't you have to pay a data plan and taxes on the phone? Doesn't this come out much more expensive? Or is something special done so that it's just $10 a month extra?

With a mobile share plan the cheapest line that you can add is a $30 plus tax line

So I have two iPhone 5's on a Verizon Family Share plan with 4 GB's of data. I currently have a year left on each contract for the iPhone 5's but I want to buy two new 5S's at the end of the week (yes I will be standing in line against my better judgement). My question is can I add two new lines for the 5S's to my account then suspend the other two lines on the iPhone 5's and carry them for $10 a month until the end of the contract? I would sell the iPhone 5's immediately but pay the $10 each per phone so long as Verizon allows this. This is what I used to do constantly on AT&T but this is my first year with Verizon's service which I went to for the screaming fast LTE service (which I love).

I also have Verizon and wonder if I can do the same thing?

Sinuously ?. That's amazing !. What Fo you say exactly ???.i'mgetting two 5s this Friday and would live yo not pay the upgrade and activation fees .....
Thanks

I called this morning to ask about ordering online... out of nowhere she told me that my account indicated that I will no longer be charged the $36 fee because I've been a customer so long. She said that if I buy in the store I'll have to tell them to check my account as they won't automatically do it. Can't complain about that! $36 I get to keep. :D

Which carrier are you all talking about that only charges $10 for a line? I looked on the Verizon site and even a basic voice plan for a dumb phone comes out to $40 a month.

So has anyone done this yet with a Verizon Family Share package? Can the smartphones already on the plan be suspended if two more lines are added? And if so what is the monthly cost of the suspended lines? My thinking was that they can be carried for $10 a month like a normal dumb phone but can I stop paying the $30 a month for data on the lines? By suspending them will Verizon let me treat the lines as dumb phones since I will be keeping the numbers active?

No data plan needed for dummy line. It's called dummy line for a reason. Yes,the tax is negligible.

If you have a mobile share plan, they will add a data plan and it comes to $30, I've tried to do this 3 times online and in store this week.

I did not have a mobile share plan.AT&T suggested I simply add a line for $10 when the 5 was introduced and I did.No data plan required.Even says "Data not shared" right on my bill-just saw that last night.

Thanks for the heads up. I too will be calling :).

Just be careful if you are adding a line on a premier plan as you sometimes can't do it online. Last year I needed to add the line in store

I can confirm on Verizon, it'll add $30 on a family share everything plan. I just got back from my local store asking about adding $10 dumb phone line. I was told "that was the old plan, if you are on a new share everything plan, it's $30."

Would have been worth it for $10. It's not for $30. Boo!
