If this is really the iPhone 5, then I will be extremely interested in Apple's explanation. Still just looks like a prototype to me.

Very interesting. I should just stop looking at macrumors until the 12th, as if I'd really do that. Lol

Yes, because Apple will plaster the "new iPhone" all over the box. Even next August, it'll still have "new iPhone" all over it and the iPhone isn't so new any more. The "new iPad" only says "iPad" on the box for a reason.

And Apple is totally just messing with everyone by making the shadow of the "12" a "5." It might have made sense for last year, but considering iOS 5, the A5 chip, and whatever other fives might be associated with the phone have already been used in products (except for the name *iPhone 5*), this is a complete fake.

Oh, and also someone on the TechCrunch article pointed out that the YouTube icon is still on the home screen. Because Apple would obsess over every detail except their product's packaging.

And yet I still have friends that are sure that all of these leaked parts are part of a misdirection operation by Apple and that the "true" iPhone 5 will be revealed on the 12th.

...
If only...no interest in the iPhone 4.5 for me.

When Galaxy S3 released, a lot of people said it looks ugly. But now, we think it is the best smartphone for 2012.

It makes me wonder how different the Galaxy S4 will look from the S3. It will probably have the same style. Won't people complain then?

Apple settled on their style a couple years ago... but they've upgraded it a little bit with this next iPhone.

I can't wait to feel the unibody iPhone in my hand.

Putting the many subtle clues together (I have a massive bulletin board with colored yarn and polaroids) I am thinking that the new iPhone may possibly have the same width as the current models, yet be taller and thinner.
Oh man, me and my ridiculously tiny baby sized bulletin board. I knew I should have gone for the big one...

Actually, I think the Samsung S4 will look completely different again. Samsung has a different (or no at all) design philosophy.

Apple thinks design should be as reduced as possible, this implies a hypothetical perfect design that has no redundant parts at all. So the designs of the iPhone "converge" in some way and will change less from iteration to iteration until – again hypothetically – the perfect design is reached. If they would just forcefully change the whole design concept they would either admit they were completely wrong before or that they have no idea what they're doing.

Samsung however understood that most people are not seriously interested in any design philosophy. Well people like to hear that there is a philosophy behind it, but they don't actually care. What they really want is something new and shiny. And if a new iteration of a popular phone series doesn't look different, people won't buy as they think its uninnovative (just look at the people here).

Personally, I would have been pretty disappointed if Apple had changed the design just for the sake of it. This tells me they might have a plan in some way and are not still just guessing wildly.

I'll surely be buying the new iPhone, enhanced internals and all that aside but, frankly, it is disheartening to find more and more confirmation that we are stuck for another whole year with a design dating two generations now. Visions of Blackberry burnout. That would be the worst possible outcome for fans of the iPhone.

Back when the iPhone 4 came out S Jobs said the antennas in the external metal band design is the way Apple was going to go.( I think thats why people keep saying it looks the same ) It provides Apple with more internal room for other upgrades. I'd get use to this design for a while if you like the iPhone. I'd rather have this same design each time instead of the iphone growing 40%-60% in size like other phones are doing. Man I think Samsung should start giving away a free fanny pack to carry their new phones. The size is ridiculous...IMO.

Indeed. The average consumer is all about what chip the phone uses

Nah, the average consumer is going to Android because they refuse to call it the iPhone 6.

I understand completely. I have a dog so I have someone in my life I'm massively smarter than.

Just wish NFC wasn't crossed out :(

I don't see it as a big deal. My friends with NFC capable Android phones don't even bother to use it and they were excited about it beforehand. Half the stores that have contact less debit card machines don't even work. It's disappointing (Best Buy, 7-11, CVS, Target)

hate to say it but the galaxy S III looks better
Hahahahahahaha omg this made me laugh!! Are you serious?? Hahaha!

The gs3 has been criticized for its looks in so many articles. The HTC One X - now that's a good looking phone.

Still the iPhone is the sexiest.

Radically different design just for the sake of it is not good design.

The iPhone 4 is one of the best looking devices ever made, why throw it away and not just expand on it?

Johnathan Ive is the greatest product designer of our time. He knows what he's doing.

While I agree with you completely I doubt that the masses, who cannot really separate good design from bad design, will feel the same way. For them iPhone 5 will mostly likely be too much of the same.

And if – if – I'm right with my prediction then Apple cannot afford to come out with a mere iPhone 5S next year. They'll need to come out with an all new iPhone 6.

Once people actually see the real thing, hold it, feel it, admire the build quality, it will look and feel like what it will be, the most beautiful
and advanced mobile phone in the world. It will sell like nothing before.

How come nobody knows for sure? Late change? All leaks are fakes (er, mockups??) based on "good" information. So we know nothing at all, really?

I only hope this is wrong, because another iPhone 4, no matter how stretched, isn't going to cut it, this year. I'd like iMore to have a good streak, but please don't be right.

The only thing I don't have now is Siri. I do a lot of driving and would love to be able to speak Messages, but we all know how that works when you really need it.

Money might be staying in my pocket again this year. Waiting for iPhone 6. Sigh.

You don't have LTE 4G. You don't have 1080p video. You don't have 8MP+ camera. You don't have Siri. You don't have world phone capabilities. Plus whatever else the 5 will have.

Although extremely unlikely, I would love it if these were fake leaks of a prototype made last year and the whole thing was orchestrated by apple for press attention/surprise.

I really hope that the amount of leaks for this model only means they are manufacturing huge stock which they can not contain. Having the surprised spoiled already, the worst thing that could follow is to have to wait for a few months to be able to get one.

I really hope it does have more than that.

That pretty much sums it up
