Today Adobe unveiled their latest Creative Suite 5 which includes products such as Photoshop CS5, Illustrator CS5, InDesign CS5, Premier Pro CS5, Dreamweaver CS5, Flash Professional CS5.
Focusing on interactivity, performance and maximizing the impact of digital content and marketing campaigns across media and devices, the Creative Suite 5 product line brings exciting full version upgrades of flagship creative tools while delivering significant workflow enhancements to designers and developers.
Creative Suite 5 also introduces Adobe Flash Catalyst CS5, a new design tool that allows you to create web application interfaces without writing code.
Using Flash Catalyst CS5, designers can easily add interactive Flash content to Web sites and applications by transforming native Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator artwork, as well as files from Adobe Fireworks CS5, into functional content and user interfaces (UI).

One of the most eye catching new features of Adobe Photoshop CS5 is content-aware fill which was demoed on video late last month:

I can't wait to try this out and see how well the new features work!

I'm pretty excited for the content aware healing brush; hopefully it won't let us down.

What is it going to take to get Adobe to fix Flash so my computer doesn't turn into a camp fire everytime I go to YouTube?

This looks like something where the graphic artists and marketing types were paid more than the software engineers to get this product out.

That is the sad but, IMO, current state of corporate Adobe since the last original Photoshop engineers left a few years ago.

As a heavy After Effects user, this (64 bit cocoa) is the most significant release in a long, long time!

ohh dear

I didn't realise the release was so imminent, I hope they haven't put too much emphasis on flash to iPhone in their new catalyst suite
be cool to see if they have made flash more akin to how it originated as a tool for visual creatives to create web content, the change to as3 is great from a tech point of view but it is much more tailored to programmers than designers and subsequently makes a flash project more of a team event that us singletons can't compete with the agencies on.

I know all you flash haters and non programmer haters will be horrified at the thought of web content becoming easier to produce but an iWeb pro / dreamweaver wysiwyg style app for the middle ground level of complexity would be great.

another big dent to people's wallets

right now my computer is being all cool.. why? not running flash player.. :)

Ah, stop whining. If it wasn't for Flash you would have BitTorrent burning up your network connection and viewing everything online in Real Player.

And yeah, Real Player was worse in every respect, even when it was only the size of a postage stamp.

Is this all coming to OSX at the same time as windows? Or will we need Rosetta ;)

This made me laugh too:

"In addition, users can now build AIR applications using the new Packager for iPhone tool preview, a component of Flash Professional CS5, which can be deployed on the iPhone and iPad (subject to Apple's requirements and approval) "

Yeah right... Jobs already gave them the finger, no?

Do I get free upgrade to CS5 if buy CS4 today?

Hello. I visited Adobe Store - International. Looks like it will be shipped by mid-May. If I buy the academic version of CS4 today anywhere in the world, do I get a free upgrade next month? If not, by paying a very small amount, do I get just a disc or a full product in an unopened box? I suppose that the except for the price, the academic version of CS5 is the same as the commercial version. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

Wow, so cool... Post-processing photographs couldn't be more easy!

Have you tried Youtube's HTML5 video player? It is in beta now...

Over here we have educational stores for university (surfspot) and professional education (SLIM) in which you can buy hard- and software for reduced prices if you are enrolled to or work at such an institution. In the SLIM shop Adobe CS5 Design package is about € 39,- :D In surfspot it's about € 145,- I think... :) Example: Windows 7 Ultimate for € 17,- (I'm sure you all want that ;) ) You can also switch to affilitate stores, like the Apple store, and get 12% discount which is more than at the regular Educational Apple Store (8% I think). The only thing is you get the CD's/DVD's in a sleeve an no fancy boxes or manuals. But who needs that excess carton anyways? :) Good thing I get paid by a Uni ;)

I would hold out until CS5 is released...

What about asking Adobe? :D

Classic: Adobe Flash Catalyst CS5

Ah the real reason Adobe feels sore.

Flash Catalyst CS5.

Apple made the right move.

Adobe wants an expansion of Proprietary Flash Complete Web Sites and not HTML5 open standards solutions.

I guess they didn't want to re-run the packaging info already put to press.

Lameass feature. Photoshop sux. Apple could do so much better. The sooner Apple can kill off Adobe the better. Cmon Apple release your Photoshop killer already.

They've been working on this since at least October 2008. That was when I visited my uncle in Seattle who is a member of the After Effects team. He pointed out an Apple employee who was there for a long stint to help them port their software over to Cocoa. This was within a couple weeks of the CS4 release.

He said not to mention it, but I think I've waited long enough.

Hmm, might be time to upgrade my Photoshop CS. (PPC version running painfully slowly under Rosetta.)

Have you tried Youtube's HTML5 video player? It is in beta now...

Unfortunately, any mac user who's tried this will eventually run into a problem where the file plays a sound at max SYSTEM volume. Usually the mac will trip something and disable the speakers until you restart or plug/unplug something into the headphone port.

I LOVED HTML5 YouTube when it worked, but the damage it does to your ears and speakers is unforgiveable, forcing me back to flash. :(

Design Standard

It's there, but hidden. I wonder if this is a sign of things to come with CS6? Given that my only real interest is AI and possibly PS (but even that's tentative), ID comes along for the ride and I really don't want Flash, Design Standard is about as close to a sweet spot (or Suite spot?) as anything from Adobe comes!

Why do all Apple nerds hate Adobe? They're no worse than Apple and them creating their locked-up platform and trying to control everything.
