Should I sell my Adobe stock? I bought it like 2 or 3 years ago and am up 60%.
Has Adobe done 70% off for Black Friday before?

I don't know if the recent (warranted) backlash against them actually made a dent in their numbers. And I haven't subscribed myself for a good long while.

But I just don't ever remember seeing anything more than 30-50% off?

If this is something new then it might be time to sell.

And if Affinity or Apple (with Pixelmator) come out with something attractive then Adobe could lose a lot of market shares very fast.

Final Cut 11 should also be not so great for Adobe.

Adobe caused a nightmare for the company I work for, who now spend the better part of £1,000,000 a year on Adobe subscriptions because Adobe used to allow floating licences for X number of seats but now they force us to licence every single person.

And worse still, as an individual you can only be licenced on two machines, so if you move around the office you constantly have to sign out of old devices.

Final Cut 11 should also be not so great for Adobe.

Final Cut Pro is Mac-only.

The real threat to Adobe's Premiere Pro is Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve. It's available on Mac and Windows.

It starts at FREE... with a $295 perpetual license for the pro Studio version.

And the free version is fully-functional. It's not a limited trial version. You only need to pay for the Studio version if you require advanced editing capabilities like 6K and 120fps.

If Adobe should be worried about anyone... it's Blackmagic!

:p

still too expensive for someone who doesn’t live from a being creative person.

That's always been the case, though. Even before Adobe went with subscriptions.

The average consumer wasn't paying $700 for Photoshop or $2,600 for Adobe Master Collection back in the day.

It was professionals who were paying for that... not moms and dads. Adobe was, and still is, for people who make money with their creations.

There were always cheaper and more consumer-oriented software options for regular people.

Adobe basically operates a legal extortion model.

I am very reluctant to be blackmailed.

Adobe is a criminal organization. You HAVE to pirate Adobe software. Otherwise you support criminals.

Adobe made it very hard to cancel a subscription. That goes against EU laws and I am sure it also goes against US laws.
US laws???

I wouldn’t be surprised if Adobe and the Gov had a little bastard love child that looks like a cross between Matt Gaetz and Pennywise in a glittering tutu.

Perhaps someone else who still uses Adobe could illustrate that for us?

A large portion of photographers still use Adobe software because there is not a great alternative. Some of the other software is not subscription based but one has renewal rates that at the end of the day come close to the subscription model. Affinity, Pixelmator and others do a great job but are not data management software like Lightroom.

Now, don't get me wrong, I think their customer service is abhorrent. I prefer not to subscribe.

Oh it's this thread again. Few reasonable comments mixed with 100 pages of crying about Adobe business model.

Hard to swallow pills:
1. Affinity apps are like Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign's small little brothers - they do the basics, but miss out on all the pro stuff that actually matters in real work.
2. Creative Cloud is a no-brainer deal: $30-50 monthly gets you the best apps on the market.
3. Cloud libraries are often missing in those discussions -all your colors, fonts, images - they're just there when you need them.
4. Adobe is an industry standard.

Reality check: when a $30-50 monthly subscription seems expensive, the traditional model of $600 per app would have been virtually impossible to justify. You'll always find and excuse to use "P2P" model instead of One time purchase or SaaS.

Agree

Adobe employs 30,000 people in one capacity or another. It always makes me wince to read people complaining about living in a world where they have to pay for the tools they use. They'll always be takers I guess but ultimately someone has to pay for the employees.

Obviously if the money you charge for your creativity work doesn't include the cost of your materials and tools either
A) Find cheaper tools or
B) Find a more profitable business.

I haven't tried in years but when I once decided to trial the latest version of Photoshop to see if it was worth an upgrade over my copy of CS6, I decided it wasn't worth the upgrade and found at the time the only way to cancel my trial was to speak to a customer service rep on live chat, they spent ages offering me slightly better deals in order to subscribe fully while I copy-pasted "I do not wish to subscribe, please cancel my trial" in response to their every offer.

Sadly I’ll be keeping my old 32bit intel version of adobe suite for another year. I’ve tried pixelmator pro but doesn’t cut it for all my workflow.
The prices on the MacPro 2019 models are coming down and should be good for many more years. o_O

Yeah… no thanks! Check out Pixelmator Pro instead and DaVinci Resolve. Photos and videos solved for a better price.

I believe so. I remember taking advantage of a similar deal a few years back.

Too bad you can’t renew every year at this price…

When my first year expired, I moved to cancel and they immediately offered me the same deal for another year. At the end of that second year, they offered the same yet again, but as I so rarely used the apps, I cancelled.

That's the genius of it. They use the Black Friday price to entice people on the fence into the CC ecosystem, then they have a good probability of getting a lifetime worth of subscriptions at full price. If it's a business or professional, when it comes time to renew at full price, they will have all their work, workflows, files, etc all set up in Adobe CC and would likely just continue to pay it, especially if they are making money with it.

I have great tools for my Mac and iPad and it doesn't cost a fortune - Affinity Photo, Affinity Publisher, and Affinity Designer are really great on iPad. No subscription model.

I DON'T rent software.
Having MY data held hostage every year is never going to happen.

Saw this at work, we had a massive Adobe integration, since they put their price up 80-90% of those licences got cancelled.
People/businesses are slowly learning this about "Cloud" services too, vendor lock in and raised prices.

Don't like the subscription model of Adobe. Nice to know about the discount but won't be subscribing to it.

If you are using Adobe apps daily and you earn money from them, then they are cheap and useful. If you need them intermittently like me it becomes too expensive. If they had a per use model I would be more tempted to keep my licences, but not at annual subscriptions [except when I am earning a tonne of cash and I dont care about the cost....]
