The magic selection might be worth it, though, for someone. It seems a very clever idea that I'm sure was pioneered somewhere else.
Is that different than what they had since PSE1?

Does PSE4 have a channel mixer? Any comments on new RAW features, Bousozoku?

No channel mixer. I've included menus concerning colour enhancement.

I haven't tried any RAW features because I don't have a RAW file available at the moment, only TIFFs and JPEGs.

Version 3.0 didn't have a Magic Selection tool, so I can't imagine that they dumped it along the way.

PSE1 is able to select based on contrast, color difference, so that you can select somebody's coat or hair with almost one click. It is not perfect, but if there were missing spots here and there you could just add those some small areas by hand pretty easily. It is much better doing all of it by hand. Is this similar to "magic selection tool" ? If it is, then it sucks for PSE3 owners, it is a very handy feature.

The Magic Selection tool allows you to just scribble over the item you want selected and then, it will somehow select it. I've seen it somewhere else but can't remember where. Anything that allows for easier selection is great for me.

Yes, the first time you saw this feature, it was called "multitasking" in Windows 3.1. You'd move the mouse all over the item you want selected, and then, the computer would somehow do whatever it felt like. :D

I'll just tool around with PSE 2.0 until I upgrade my iBook in 2 years to a 15" MacBook Pro.

Hopefully by then we will have a universal binary version:D

I am waiting to read some reviews before I buy, but I am not too concerned about the lack of intel support. The only reason is that I currently am using an 800mHz G4, so by the time I upgrade, I will be able to run PSE 4 faster under Rosetta than on my current hardware anyway. (I don't imagine upgrading for at least 2 years.)

With a bit of adjustment, Bridge has become less painful and more useful. I've managed to use it to update file info for several files at once, which was better than PSE version 3.0 or Photoshop version 7.0 would do.

As a second seat, it's quite good compared to paying for another copy of Photoshop since my full copy can do the CMYK conversions and such.

I like v.3 and I'm not sure if its worth the $60 to upgrade. If it was $30-40 I'd do it, but now I think I'm gonna wait either for v.5 or for a time when I've got more $$ laying around.

EDIT: But I sure would like a better icon then the one in v.3! Does anybody have the version 2 icon they could post on the forum so I could change this ugly thing out?! Is v.4 any better than v.3?

Considering it's based on Photoshop CS2 (I think; PSElements 3.0 seems to have alot in common with CS) I'm not surprised it's PPC. Besides, PPC is still the largest share of Macs out there, so for now I'll let Adobe slide...unless their universal code really sucks when the unibin version comes out, it'll be worth the wait.

It's definitely more Photoshop than I can use, so it's worth the price. Is version 2 eligible for the upgrade? it doesn't specify which version you need to give a serial number for, and I have v2...came for free with my printer. :D

Generally, any version of a product is eligible for an upgrade of the same product. I'm sure Adobe will be pleased to upgrade your OEM licence to a full retail copy.

Yes, 3.0 is cut from CS and 4.0 comes from CS2.

I'd cut Adobe some slack but I'm still waiting for a high performance Mac OS X version of anything they sell.

I have an edu copy, so it's only about $30 off... there were OEM copies of PSE3 around for $40. I wonder how long it will take before this happens for PSE4?

It's still a better deal to buy an Wacom graphics tablet that includes it. Of course, you may end up with more tablets than you have computers... :D

Lots of people have holes in their pricing structures, so this Adobe thing upgrading OEM copies (assuming it works) isn't unique.

For example, Geniesoft sells ScoreWriter for $60, Overture for $350, and the Overture "Crossgrade" for $200. So if you buy ScoreWriter and upgrade to Overture, your total cost is $260, not $350.

I should probably take advantage of this. I actually don't have *any* tablets. :(

Anybody have the icon for PSE 2.0 they can add to a text file and upload? I'm using 3.0 now and I just hat the icon, I want to go back to the 2.0 icon.

I've always wanted to learn how to use photoshop and the ad from adobe website made me feel that PSE 4 is easy to use and user friendly ... so I bought it.

I recieved it yesterday, I've been using it since .. I LOVE the magic selection tool .. but sometimes it takes extra few minutes to adjust the selection.

The only thing I really hated is that the program has the feel and look of Windows (yuk ! ) ...

I'm using the help centre to do some tutorials (I feel ya granny :D ) ...

Does anyone know website that has video toturials for photoshop elements ?

Yes, try www.lynda.com they have some free video tutorials selections and then you have to pay for the rest. It's about $25 US per month but you can learn as much as you want for that month.
IIRC they only have PSE3 but I would think PSE4 videos would be coming out very soon. Enjoy and I hope this helps :)

What exactly does Elements do that iPhoto doesn't? I know iPhoto is an organizor and Elements in an editor, but that's about it. How does Elements differ from iPhoto's editing tools?

Sorry to post such a noobish question. I don't have any Adobe expierence, but I'm interested in Elements and am wondering if it is right for me.
