Happy to see this. Hopefully Illustrator follows soon after.

Even if Apple releases Apple silicon iMac (my dream would be 32" 6K, true motion & face ID) sooner than expected, I'd still probably wait until my most important software Adobe Photoshop, and even more importantly, Adobe Illustrator is fully released for Apple silicon.

If it’s anything like iPad photoshop you can probably wait another year before installing.

Edited to add: As a paying subscriber to all CC apps, Adobe is possibly the laziest modern software development company in existence. I really wish more competition pops up so I can cancel my sub.
You can always use the wonderful and powerful Affinity bundle: Photo, Designer and Publisher, very complete and competent, very fast, native from day 1 and with a fantastic iPad compatible version.

As for the Adobe laziness... I remember the time when Mac OS X 10.0 launched and the time that QuarXPress spent trying to have a native version... Back then, Adobe launched InDesign at day 1, and the rest is history. Maybe Affinity will have his golden opportunity with Apple Silicon... time will tell.

iPad Photoshop is terrible. I paid a months subscription and used it for 10 minutes before giving up and going back to Procreate.
10 minutes isn’t really enough time to judge such things. It’s not terrible by a long stretch. It has a long way to go though.
Procreate is an entirely different app, weird that this would be your go to option when photoshop didn’t suffice.
Could it be that you’re not the target market for a photoshop style app?

I wanted to do a very simple "select, delete background and rotate" on a small image for a layer in an art piece I was working on. The software left so much to the imagination, and I just wanted to get it done, and Procreate could do it.

P.s. I have been using the desktop version of photoshop for over 18 years, so yes, I am the target market. ;)

Again, im fascinated...my M1 mac under maya project is stays in heavy load around 32-33C (keep in mind my 16" Mbp under maya, the top keyboard part stays around 41-42C). Even my amd ryzen laptop stays at around 44C

Erm, I am sorry but almost none of the things people actually use Photoshop works (see the Known Issues section). If all I do is a little bit of resizing and cutting and whatnot I can use anything from Pixelmator to Affinity Photo and beyond.
The fact they don't even have Camera RAW working makes me think this is nothing but a PR move from Adobe to show the world they're "on it" (but still years away)

With all seriousness, the iPad app doesn't offer more than 10 mins worth of 'features'. It barely does anything but opening PSD files. It's almost just a viewer at this point!

Pretty easy to do in iPad photoshop nontheless. I suppose if you can’t be bothered to work it out and you have an app you know well that does it, then why not.
I agree mainly though, ipad photoshop is pretty lacklustre atm. It’s early days, and it’s a complete rewrite from the desktop version. That’s a good thing in my opinion. Just needs time. My biggest gripe is you can’t import a raw. Wtf.
Affinity photo is the obvious photoshop iPad replacement though, not procreate. So I guess you’re an artist rather than a photographer, hence my original assumption.

I dabble in lots of things. Digital/traditional art, CAD design (jewellery mostly) and I think of myself as an amateur photographer (My 6D MKii comes out with me where ever I go, which isn't far right now). :D

I have Lightroom for iPad. I don't tend to need to do anything crazy to my photos as I mainly shoot landscapes and cityscapes.

I remember when Photoshop for iPad was announced in 2018 and it felt like an incredible step forwards and then very little happed. Maybe one day I will look at it again, because I think it was just my laziness that prevented me getting it to work. Fingers crossed they can actually bring something more full featured!

I fully recommend you take a look at affinity photo on the iPad in that case, if you haven’t already. It’s a great piece of software for a photographer.
(iPad and lightroom mobile issues/limitations not withstanding - no round tripping to AP for example).

Can't understand all the Adobe hate. They literally offer you all the software you need in exchange for what you make in one hour per month while using it. They could charge 5x that and it would still be cheap.
You might make that in 1 hour, but most adobe users don't. Paid it for 5 years, found perpetual licensing on Serif products was cheaper than the monthly cost of CC, swapped to that - and I went through the hassle of Adobe certification as well, and here I am ditching it 3 years later.

Adobe Acrobat Pro DC doesn't even work on Big Sur on Intel Macs! It crashes on start, no beta or bugfix in sight. The Adobe support page went from "we don't support pre-release software, it's your fault" to "we don't support Big Sur, it's your fault". From the logs it seems like a quick fix, but even if it weren't, months of beta should be enough for Adobe, of all companies, to be able to support the latest macOS.

And don't get me started on Photoshop: Spaces and native full screen were introduced 13 years ago and Photoshop still doesn't support it! You have to create a space and "fill it out" and even then it's very odd to use. Multitasking is a pain. Adobe has been aware since at least 2011 and have been "considering" a fix for four years now...

So in short: Adobe is just unacceptably lazy and I wouldn't hope for Photoshop to become functional even remotely soon. Too bad for them, there are excellent alternatives!

Affinity Photo has replaced Photoshop for me, no regrets whatsoever. I have been trying to find a Lightroom Classic replacement for years, unsuccessfully. Capture One has been a big disappointment on the library management part, really weak. I recently crossed back from the Windows world where ACDSee is a credible alternative, but that is not the case on the Mac. Now I fear Lightroom Classic will take forever to work on AS. How can they code so badly that it won’t even run on Rosetta? I mean, Office 365 is fully supported on Rosetta !

..I recently made the switch to pixelmator pro (they have a new m1 version coming in a couple days) and so far I really like it. In fact its more intuitive than photoshop and for the main things I do (black/white transparency editing/printing for glass sandblast masking) its a more streamlined workflow. I am still learning its capabilities, but overall it can do everything ive needed from photoshop so far. Less clicks to complete the same tasks. (I love how I get multiple downvotes for sharing my experience with pixelmator. Adobe devs in here?
