I'm really tired of these biweekly updates and would love to totally ditch Flash completely.

Except I need it to watch pandas, BABY pandas, darn it. :(

Many times baby pandas exist in both H264 form as well as flash form...

Just sayin.

I don't care about security. All I want from Flash is massively lowered CPU usage.

Security first, my friend. What's the point of lower CPU usage if you can get infected by malware, which will inevitably use all the available CPU/GPU/Memory you have?

Also, I think latest Flash version 12.0.0.70 is safe, contrary to the article. See this security bulletin for today Feb 20. http://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player/apsb14-07.html

Affected version is 12.0.0.44 and older. I hope Apple updates xprotect.plist soon!

They're constantly patching it, which is better than sitting on a vulnerability until you can bundle them with a ton of other patches.

Yes you do. Jobs even claimed that over 80% of the problems in OSX were security exploits in flash.

Exactly. I'd like it if flash didn't have to exist, but I don't hate adobe for at least keep their propriatory software up date.

And the other 20%? QuickTime, right?

And if you look on a year by year basis, the number of vulnerabilities is getting smaller. I say they're getting better at it.

Screw this, I'm just not going to update and not use it. I don't even need it anymore except in very rare cases on trusted sites.

What's wrong with QuickTime?

I used to update my Flash only once in a blue moon. No malware attacks. The trick is to stay away from Russian and Chinese websites and use AdBlock.

said HTML5 :)

HTML 5 is slow too :/

Are you seriously asking what's wrong with QuickTime?

Needs to die

I used to develop in Flash and it paid my bills handsomely. But nowadays, it really just needs to die. Especially since sites like Facebook and YouTube to some extent require the latest Flash player, hence having to shut down ALL browsers just to install this security-hole ridden plugin gets annoying very quickly.

Okay, this confuses me:
I just updated from 12.0.0.44 to 12.0.0.70 and cannot update further.
On techspot it says:
Adobe said Flash Player 12.0.0.44 and earlier versions for Windows and Macintosh, version 11.2.202.336 and earlier versions for Linux, AIR 4.0.0.1390 and earlier versions for Android, AIR 3.9.0.1390 SDK and earlier versions and AIR 3.9.0.1390 SDK & Compiler and earlier versions are all affected.

The new version of Flash Player for Windows and Mac is 12.0.0.70 while the newest for Linux is 11.2.202.341.
From ARS technica:
Readers should remember that versions 12.0.0.44, 11.7.700.261, or earlier of Flash, regardless of the platform they run on, contain the underlying vulnerability.
So yea, .70 is the one you want.

It would be wiser to uninstall Flash than to upgrade.

Then just do it instead of whining.

And why not start a campaign to get all thos flash based sites to convert to html5. Then Flash wouldn't be needed. If all of you whiners spent your time doing that you would actually accomplish something other than setting a record for whining the same stuff every time an update happens.

What I find weird is why under the System Preferences pane, it states I have version 12,0,0,70 installed, but when I went to check the version, via URL, it states I have 12,0,0,44 installed? Anyone else having this issue? I had to manually install it myself, instead of clicking on "Check Now" for an update.

Yes. It works fine

Also, sites sometimes say that my Flash is outdated right after I update it and restart my browser.

If it is needed for a lot of sites, it won't die soon.

Likely it has updated and you haven't closed out your browser and reopened it. So for whatever reason, it is registering the old version.

Technically so does Flash.

Ok, Flash is....

an useful technology. But to prone to issues: security, performance, battery drainage....The less evil of bad things?.....

Seriuosly, I like to see an alternative to Flash too wide implemented . Or Adobe levering up their game....

:):apple:

Should do a poll. How many like me, use Flash fewer times per year than there are Flash updates?
