Or, the stylus could act like a WiiMote with its own accelerometer, and relay the information to the iPad with Bluetooth, but hey, lets not think outside of the box.

Cool idea, unfortunately, that would required a powered pen and you would not be able to draw a sketch while skydiving. I could deal with changing batteries in my pen, Not being able to draw a picture after jumping out of an aircraft would be a deal breaker for me.

For a tablet, you need some kind of RFID style transmitter that beams power to the stylus. Then you need a number of receivers that each track the relative position and angle of the pen. I don't know, they might even use more than one transmitter (One for the top of the stylus, on for the bottom). Lets call it four receivers and two transmitters. Each transmitter ls moderately low power, but they do eat battery.

In the case of wacom tablets, I believe it is magnets in the pen somehow communicating all that info, meaning one does not need a power source.

I'm not sure finger painting is what the pros are really interested in.

This app is exactly what finger painting pros are interested in! ;)

Could save the need for a battery by putting inductive charging in the iPad/stylus. It would draw some battery from the iPad. Bringing it from 12 hours, to 11 hr 45 minutes. But wouldn't add much (if any) width to the iPad. And we could leash the stylus to the iPad, so you could still use it jumping out of the plane.

Inductive charging burns quite a bit of power. I would say, use the 30 pin connector.

PS. I don't like the word leash. (It's a dog thing.)

Professional creative people don't limit themselves. An idea strikes and they use what is at hand - napkins, notepads, Post-Its, or, Adobe is hoping, their iPad. Makes a LOT more sense to me - this way you have a workable rough rather than a junky little sketch. I'll be buying Eazel as soon as I get home tonight.

Can't believe this is actually getting ripped on - shows the difference between people who do art for a living and those who don't understand art AT ALL.

Well said.
I can't believe how many people are being negative over these well priced and exciting products. Actually I can, on this site negativity is almost a prerequisite of posting
This is just the begining and as such is a very good start.
I have not really been able to justify an iPad but with this and the promise of future aps like them I'm on for the iPad 3 when it arrives.
Well done Adobe.
Damn I don't say that too often ;)

Yep, close enough. Wacom's pens use a patented technique - probably the reason there isn't much competition in the graphics tablet market.

From the Temple of Knowledge (Wikipedia lol):

Wacom tablets use a patented electromagnetic resonance technology.[12] Since the tablet provides power to the pen through resonant coupling, no battery or cord is required for the pointing device. As a result, there are no batteries inside the pen (or the accompanying puck), which makes them slimmer.

The full article is pretty interesting...

How can you every use the iPad for anything along this line, when the screens are all over the place colour wise?

Will you have a blue/white iPad or a Yellow/White iPad and how will the colour you are seeing on your iPad look on your computer screen.

All very hit and miss methinks. Ok for a bit of fun, but never use of some anything serious with colour varying all over the show.

They should make this a universal app... Even though the iPhone and iPod touch have a too small screen.
