A hard NO to any subscriptions--just bleed people dry from cradle to grave.

Subscription? Nope!
Get over it, it's 2025. Most of the software is subscription based today.
What you get with a full CC subscription is really one of the better deals on the market. You get a ton of software at literally the price of Netflix subscription. Of course, if for example you only use one program, sure, you may find something else for better price. But as a bundle nobody is beating it.

Gave up on Adobe iOS Apps long ago, every time you want to do some quick little thing you have to sign in to you account, by which time your inspiration has vanished, even the desktop apps have a tedious over a minute wait time to load. Still have CS6 on an old cheese grater Mac with SnowLeopard, and load time is under ten seconds for PS, progress is wonderful

Cool but why? Is using a phone for serious photo editing practical. Perhaps I’m just getting old but I prefer canvases for serious work.
You have to use imagination a bit. For quick edits on the go software like this is a killer. Nobody will swap pro work on the desktop for mobile phone, be serious.

Adobe Releases Photoshop App for iPhone

Adobe today announced the launch of a new Photoshop app for the iPhone

-New-? -Releases-?... This app has been in the Australian App Store for a while and very likely, in other countries too. Some of the reviews are 5 years old. It's just a mere makeover update making it as pointless as it always was.

I have stepped off the Adobe subscription train. Photomator is not better or really close to Lightroom except that it's better priced and for that reason, I use it instead. Waiting to see what Apple does with it since the purchase, but dont think anything for a while.

I don't see the need for full PS on a phone either. But this isn't full PS as we know it on the desktop, it seems to have different features aimed at mobile users. I don't think a phone is a great canvas for creating art, but YMMV.

I think Adobe is releasing a product for people whose computer of choice is a phone. Probably smart for them to try to get customers in the mobile world (well, iPhone world. No Android version yet) into their subscriptions, rather than ignoring them. It doesn't appeal to me but I'm sure there are people out there who will get it.

As a very time Adobe user and a long time adobe subscriber, this is long overdue. This is where our money should have been going to years ago. I kinda wish Apple just bought or merged with Adobe and did all this a decade ago. What's the point of a world class Pencil and iPad screen if we can't use all the major Adobe apps on it, or companion apps that lets us do on our iPads what would obviously would like to do with a Pencil and touch interface.

I don't find that at all, you stay logged in after you log in. Unless you use the apps on more than two PCs/Macs.

For me a bigger problem is that I've started relying on Adobe Media Encoder and I'm finding it's not working after updating After Effects, as I have to update Media Encoder too before the project will render. So then you have to wait a few minutes downloading the update when you thought you would be rendering. Paid a lot for a Mac the will render fast so it's annoying that Media Encoder doesn't automatically update or isn't bundled inside After Effects or something. I hate having to think about updates when I should just be thinking about the projects I actually want to get done. I know updating is optional, but with the pace of AI features I finally do want all the updates as they come.

I stoped using adobe products when they forced subscriptions. Super happy with Affinity software.
You are actually paying a little less with the subscription then you were if you updated with each now Adobe CS version that came out. I was against the subscriptions at first but have come to appreciate them as time has moved on. Everyone is basically on the same version now, at least pros are. Things work a lot better because of this when passing files around. It used to be a headache as everyone was fragmented, you would have designers on one version, print shops on another. Adobe CC is for pro users, that is who they are gearing it for as the price is expensive for any casual user, but it not even close to any business who make their living with the apps. In less then a day we easily cover the costs for multiple licenses for a month.

Also, while Affinity has great software, especially at the price point, it really is lagging behind without AI. I also predict that Affinity will never have AI without a monthly subscription to cover the costs of hosting AI cloud computing.

most people still hate subscriptions

so there’s no getting over it

plenty of getting around it though with better free alternatives or one-off payment for lifetime licence alternatives

I love adobe products but I think they're cooked as a company. Lots of new competitors with plenty of ai features that will likely surpass adobe. Also somehow Adobe software crashes like 50% of time? Hopefully competition makes their software better. Win win for us consumers

what's the difference between this and PS Express app?
PS Express isn't much better than Photos editing tools and filters. A few more but mostly meh. This has more of the pro features from PS that Express lacks but not all the features of the full PS app and adds AI.

In most cases, I can't see a reason I'd use this on my phone.

Sure, like paying for something - nobody likes paying money. But that how the World works. Getting over it means coming to terms with it and not doing some temper tantrums and boycotting it. Do you boycott all the streaming services, iCloud or anything other that is subscription based?

Which will end up being more expensive or not working together so seamlessly. Been there done that.
Like I said previously - if you're using one app like Photoshop you may find alternative and save some money.
But to find whole bundle alternative that works with each other is impossible.
Adobe is peanuts when compared to some 3D software.
Some Adobe software is also industry standard, like Photoshop or After Effects, no way around it.

Edit:
Just checked the price of Canva. It's half the price for only one "app".

Adobe apps are crashing 50% of the time? If that were actually the case people would not be using the software. I speak from experience spending every day using Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. I can count the number of times any of these apps have crashed all of last year on one hand.

Adobe is a company like any other, trying to make money by providing a product people want. So not sure what makes them any more crooked than any other company. People were angry at Serif for selling to Canva, are they crooked now too and unworthy of your money? People want Adobe, their subscriptions are growing (last time I checked) and they offer a great service in my opinion. Again Adobe is not being made for those casual users who want to tinker with photoshop or make a flyer for your community bbq. They are pro apps for pro users. And by pro I mean people who make their living with their software.

I’ve been a Photoshop user for 25 years and doing any meaningful Photoshop work on your phone sounds like an impossibility
