I bet it's the fact that Microsoft is wanting to drop support for all plugins with the next version of IE. If they can convince more web developers to use Flash, then they'll have users complaining to Microsoft that things don't work after updating IE, and Microsoft will have to go back on their stance. If IE ships denying Flash functionality, it will be either the end of Flash or the end of IE.
Metro Internet Explorer has no plug-ins, that is all.

So much negativity! :)

Having recently researched Corona, Cocos, iTorque, Game Salad etc... I find this interesting.

The Flash browser plug-in is on the way out. But AIR and Flash as an application development platform still has merit.

Request to Developers

Developers... please. Just Don't.

Flash is an outdated, unperformant, unoptimized flaming pile of crap. Pick a competent, capable frameworks/tools such as OpenGL, XNA, .NET, Objective-C, Java, C++, HTML5, JavaScript. I really don't care which ones, but just let Flash die a slow and painful death.

Seriously, Apple may have shaken things up quite a bit by not supporting Flash on the iPhone, but I can't say I blame them. I have yet to have a good experience on a mobile device with Flash, and I've got a decently powerful Android device.

Every time my PC and/or Mac crashes... it's Flash (that or the NVidia drivers...). Do I hear my laptop's fan spinning up? I'm running a web page with Flash. Seriously, I will pass right over your content if it's written in Flash.

Thanks!

But doesn't OSX still deny Flash access to hardware acceleration?
KnightWRX pointed me to the documentation and libraries you need to use in order to gain access for Intel, ATI, and nVidia hardware based acceleration. I do not happen to have the link on hand but it has been there since say ~10.6.3.

I hate to be a pessimist but heres how I look at it...

Thats pretty cool that they can get "Console" quality graphics, yeah okay. Um. Which Console? I doubt they can match a Halo 3. and thats what 07? Theres one screenshot, and not a flurry of videos, which makes me believe making such a flash based game would be a long hardship, also our processors can't handle flashes power sucking self today, how is it gonna be whenyour running a high end flash game (i will get to that in a minute) your computers just gonna melt? Usually a company releases a product, and updates it to as close to perfection as possible before releasing a new version, Adobe has yet to come out with any version of flash I would consider anywhere near good, let alone perfect.

Also, I know flash games, I've seen them for years. I played them too before the App Store stole my heart. Um. Are any flash developers really interested in putting that much time and effort into creating a beautiful 3D high def flash game and throw it on underground or...addictinggames.com? Flash games are like some iOS games, quick fixes. Are people really interested in taking that much time into making a fully 3D game and just throwing it out there for free? a 2D flash tower game is one thing, but 3D is entirely different.

This is at least interesting as an alternative way to get Unity 3D content into more desktop browsers. Unity has partly completed and demoed export-to-Flash.

Most of web developers ( at least freelancers) are Mac users and I can tell you that 99% of us are excited for HTML5 and CSS3 and does not care about flash anymore.

The future of web design is websites that adapt it's design to the device you are using, one web, multiple devices with no need of using pinch to zoom or whatever, and this is something you do with CSS3, no flash

MSFT is not dropping all plug-in support with the next version of IE. They are dropping plugin support in the Metro version of said IE version. The desktop version (which is basically the same thing) will still support plug-ins.

Flash for video purposes should be faced out soon enough though. Unfortunately, flash does way more than mere video, and even though HTML5 is too, the latter can hardly - today, and in the near future - replace Flash.

Unity does everything that Flash 3d does but with more mature game pipelines and a wonderful front end that rivals tools like Unreal Engine. It pubishes to stand alone Mac, PC, web, Android, and iPhone. And it's free.

Too little too late, Adobe.

isn' this what past dead technologies did right before they withered away, announce some new feature or promise how they're gonna change the world or whatever? Didn't Real Networks announce some Great New Thing™ too before they threw in the towel?

There is no such thing. The last time Adobe cried about it, it was a Flash bug.

Apple did not deny Flash access. Actually, Flash has been using GPU on modern Macs for awhile now.

this is BS .. apple needs to embrace flash or adobe need to embrace HTML% this is like some fool continuing to make VHS tapes with more and more features dammit....
