Sorry, who?

:)

The company who owns the office suite market. Funny how people forget that little fact.

Yah because preview is a joke beyond anything other then well previewing. My workday is spent in tech manuals in PDF's. When I first got my MBP I tried using just preview. Ummm no.

Point taken.

Sadly, iWork is missing the key features required for business, such as track changes and a true word processing mode in Pages. (as examples)

But believe you me, with the exception of Excel which is a half decent application, MSOffice is pitiful.

I really hope Apple goes for the throat with iWork 07. I'd love to move my entire company over to it.

Overlapping with IBC is the Photoshop World show, over in Las Vegas. In the keynote for that show, on 7 September, Adobe "will give the thousands of keynote attendees, and media on hand, a sneak peek at some of the new Photoshop technology being developed by Adobe." (link) Perhaps some hints on CS3 timing will come from there.

No-one here is talking about Reader in the context of this discussion... are you aware of the difference and why people use Acrobat Pro?

Since Macromedia is left behind, Adobe is not CS or Premiere anymore. An anouncement can be even about Flash / Dreamweaver, etc.

Flash player is aleady at v9, so Adobe maybe want to push the whole Macromedia family forward to have their name on it.

After reading some of these speculation-on-future-releases threads, I think they should rename the forums MacRumors: Bull****Factories

So many self-appointed experts--so little actual knowledge.

Just a thought... ;)

And a useless one at that. Contribute nothing while sneering at others.

I agree, the site is MacRumors not MacFact, speculation and rumors go hand in hand.

The FACT is that nobody actually knows 1) if this is going to happen 2) if it does happen what it is about. So the contributions being made are jut a few guesses (and in a demeaning and condescending way, at that.)

Yah about time. Acrobat Reader is slow as hell.
I think Reader was mentioned. :p
But yes, if there is one product Adobe cannot get out fast enough it is Acrobat Pro.

I can confirm that Adobe will be releasing Universal apps within the next week or two. I am absolutely positive on this as I have just completed a transaction on a G5 to use for Adobe apps as my Intel machines aren't doing a great job.

time will tell....there are alot of things that can happen between April and September....His April announcement may have been based on Intel not releasing chips this soon, or Mac Pro's not shipping this soon, or who knows....BUT...history would suggest that the release is sooner rather than later.....

Considering the amount of history in the code, unraveling it would be extremely difficult. They have to re-write major portions of their applications for Mac OS X and Intel compatibility. Their current applications were barely converted to run on Mac OS X and run poorly. The Macromedia applications were a bit luckier because they were re-written more recently but still require a large transformation.

It's not so trivial but anything is possible. I just wouldn't count on sooner rather than later.

How nice. Have you anything useful to add instead?

It doesn't matter one iota what a blanket statement on the corporate site says. When the CEO says the following at a press conference in April then I (and all of Adobe's shareholders) expect that to be broadly true.
Of course when a company says they'll be having revenue of $2/share you expect that to be true as well. When it comes in at $3/share are you going to scream bloody murder, down with the CEO for lying to you?

don't get all hyped up... i've heard that they may update Acrobat to universal and that's it for now! we'll be lucky if we get CS3 before next summer!

Blue Velvet said:
They'll also be working to get the whole lot Vista-ready as well... sometimes, we're far too ready to assume that Adobe's plans centre around Apple's. ;)

This is exactly what is happening. No CS3 til March, sorry guys. Adobe is on schedule and it will be worth the wait.

Not entirely true.....The Adobe Site says this:

"Adobe has a corporate policy of not commenting on ship dates. However to provide rough guidelines for planning this transition, we can point to our consistent track record of releaseing significant upgrades to our creative professional applications every 18-24 months."

Photoshop CS2 was released April 2005....18 months would be October release...September announcement....FYI, Photoshop CS was released October 2003...EXACTLY 18 months before CS2....Photoshp 7 was relesed March 2002, 19 months before CS. Photoshop 6 was released September 2000 (18 months)....So the last 4 updates came EXACTLY 18-19 months apart....I expect an Adobe announcement for CS3, and a release this year....

And April 2007 would be exactly 24 months, which is "Second Quarter '07", "first half of 2007", and "Spring of '07" just like the CEO statement.

So why would they say 18 to 24 months when it's been "EXACTLY 18-19 months" for all past releases? Because saying 18-19 months would be wrong in this case and the 18-24 month gap fits all releases more accurately.

EDIT: I have no idea when they will release anything. I'm just saying that you can't hang your hat on anything because of what's happened in the past.

Adobe says 18-24 months. 18 months is this November and 24 months is April. That's about the only thing you can say with any reasonable certainty.

This is great news! Wait a minute, this is actually getting a little creepy here. I had a short list of things that I was holding out on before I got a new iMac, and suddenly they're all happening! I knew all those years of threatening Apple, Adobe, et al. would pay off. :)

  1. VMware for OS X, CHECK - Beta real soon now
  2. 23" iMac, Possible CHECK - The current rumors look promising
  3. Bluetooth Mighty Mouse, CHECK - available now
  4. and now... UBs for Photoshop, CHECK! CHECK CHECK CHECK!

I guess this means I might get to spend a bit of dough next week! Big honking iMac with non-crappy Photoshop, come to papa!

Now if we can just convince Will Wright to release Spore for OS X at the same time as the Windows version...

I'm looking to flaunt the massive increases in speed to my staggeringly ignorant IT person (over not only CS2 on Mac, but also very much on the PC).

Don't let me down Adobe.

just because adobe said april 2007 or arounds that time, doesnt mean they cant come out with something earlier (mac pro anyone?)

best to say yah next year spring, than holiday 06, and fux up and not be able to come out until 07 and piss everyone off.

this could be a nice reward.

a time expiring beta so current cs2 owners could test out the new universal app would be nice, but i doubt it. if they release it i will upgrade immediately.

now if only autodesk would release a universal version of maya, and pixologic ub for zbrush, id be uber happy!

All I know is that almost everything that actually has come to fruition, has appeared first on MacRumors. There have been very few surprise announcements that haven't made it to the pages of MacRumors first.

Verifyed by...us?

Update: (Moved to Page 1) While still a rumor and still prone to the inaccuracies that accompany such things, MacRumors has verified our source and gained a little bit more detail about what may be expected next week.
Did you verify your own source???

any idea if they could preview universal after effects? would actually make sense on a broadcast exhibition, imo.
I also think that ae would be the most urgent to release as an universal binary, since it is the most performance critical of the adobe apps, no? I use cs 2 on my intel imac every day, and it works fine, does not feel too slow. ae, on the other side is barely usable in rosetta on larger projects.

Word and Excel have bugs that just go on and on and never get fixed. Like the disappearing recent items list for example.

From my regular use of Office and Lightroom beta I have to say Lightroom is FAR more stable and bug free.
