What? So the iMac was done to use Safari, iTunes and a bit iMovie. I guess professional but not hardcore Photoshop an iMac is just perfect. But I agree that the iMac should get real hardware soon or it will be quite outdated.

You can still do photoshop on an iMac with integrated graphics, and it will still be super speedy, but it won't have that extra few percent of extra speed from GPU processing that only a graphics professional would even notice was there.

Too soon to upgrade.

Now if Adobe added something as mind numbingly simple as allowing me to rename a layer from the Layer Style window, I might upgrade.

I'm already annoyed with CS3's GUI updates, so I can only imagine things will get worse. :(

Finally-you can do multiple "artboards" in Ilustrator finally.

IK in Flash is a very nice addition, plus $249 for student use is a nice bonus (I expected that)
And I like how the suites were kept the same.

I remember that image resizing tech from here. Amazing stuff.

It's nice technology alright - sadly the linked article from the original news post misrepresents it. The image in question isn't being scaled down, the small image has been scaled up to produce the larger image. You can easily see the repeated pixels where the scaling algorithm has filled in the gaps.

It's still clever though.

Edit:

If you go to the Adobe site, they confirm my suspicions by showing the image being expanded in a demo video...

Do you mean in layer styles - blending options? Isn't it easier to change the name by just double clicking the layer anyway?

Somebody please explain to me the point of CS3.3 when CS4 is following so quickly. Why not just release Acrobat 9 Pro if it was so important to get it out the door?

Did Adobe explain to anybody why they did a full version upgrade so quickly after releasing CS3? I just use the education version, but that's still a lot of change to ask for to get what doesn't seem like any big upgrade.
Just in case you weren't aware, Adobe releases a new version every 1-2 years. It's been about a year and a half since CS3.

UK Pricing still sucks.

Example: Adobe CS4 Design Premium, The US price is US$1800 plus taxes.

In the UK, it's £1582 plus VAT in the UK, which equals US$2993 plus VAT.

So in the UK we're paying a 66% markup - and that's before you add the VAT.

I'm sticking with my own "creative suite" until further notice: Pixelmator, RapidWeaver, Inkscape, iLife.

Surprised that there's no-one jumping up and down about the fact that AE CS4 doesn't support PPC Macs...

CS4 Master Suite is Intel only, but CS4 Design Premium is PowerPC G5 as well - must be one or more of the programs doesn't run on PPC not the whole suite.

woot apple website updated with cs4 ready for pre-orde (i think).
now as soon as those new macbooks (pro) come out i am going to order the design premium for $399.99 (CAN). great deal considering cs3.3 was going for $449.99 with a mac.

oh these are education pricing with a mac.
also 3.3 and the new cs4 design premium package comes with dreamweaver, flash, firefox, and all the goodies! well worth it for the money imho.

edit: should i go for cs4 or cs3.3? will my iMac and macbook be able to handle cs4?
my iMac is the 2.66 with 2600PRO graphics...
macbook is well whatever steve has for us in the upcoming line of macbooks or i may go for the pro.

thanks

Somehow this article managed to forget the most important factor... is it written in Cocoa or not?

Carbon apps need to die as fast as possible for the sake of OSX's stability. There are five things that have caused kernel panics for me:
- Cider
- Firefox (but I'm pretty sure the Flash plugin was to blame)
- Photoshop
- Stereo Bluetooth driver
- Diablo II

These all have one thing in common (apart from the driver): Carbon! Get the mainstream apps into Cocoa so Snow Leopard can have anything Carbon run in an emulator and Cocoa can adapt the benefits of Grand Central without this crap in the way. The cost in performance will be worth the improved stability.

I'm trying to determine if education copies of CS3 can be upgraded to education copies of CS4. So far the answer seems to be no, in which case education users will have to stick with CS3 Education, pay the full education price for a new CS4 Education, or contact Adobe about an upgrade to the non-education version.

:mad::mad::mad: I been trying to find that out too, sigh..
I hope it can be upgrade sometime when the new macbooks are released!

The window is called "Layer Styles," but it's where you'll find Blending options. So I meant what I wrote. Maybe Adobe should change the name of this window to Blending Options, or the contextual link to Layer Styles. It would only be consistent. :)

Sometimes when I have that window open, I'll want to change the name on my layer without having to close it and then double-click on the layer. I'm not saying that this isn't easy, but it's not always convent.

Adobe should combine the Layer Properties window with the Layer Styles window. This would not only give me the "extra" option I want, but also add more consistency. Right now you can double-click to open up Group Properties, but not Layer Properties.

Anyways, it's all minor, but it's something I'd like.

If you want confusion, do you remember when Adobe released PS 6 and took away the option to double-click on a layer to change the name? That was not only confusing, but it sucked! :]

Looks like a nice upgrade, will be waiting for the first users to post their experiences, cause Adobe can and will toot it's own horn as much as they like, but let's see how this behaves out there in Graphic Design world ....

ah and also hope CS4 does not take 1 terra in diskspace!

This feature iLike!

Well I am still on CS1. Finally made the move to Intel, so helpfully I will be able to pick up a cheap copy of CS3 (I managed to get CS1 for only £100 when CS2 came out).

Where? How? eBay? I am too on CS1 and looking to get cheap CS3 upgrade or whatever...

I like the incremental updates that Apple and Adobe have been working toward. I think it shows maturity of product. Ya think Microsoft will ever catch on to this idea....?? Oh wait, "maturity of product" ... my mistake.

When I first got CS3 I risked eBay to find a copy of Illustrator CS, which knocked a few hundred off the whole price and thankfully the guy selling turned out to be legit. It is a scary business though buying off eBay and I was sweating all through the process in case it was a pirate copy.

Wonder if Adobe got smart and brought back ImageReady ... Firework is an awful replacement for creating slices.
I wonder if users got smart and realised PS does great slicing. :p
Most of IR is now in PS and why it was dropped.
Though I have to say I never liked the old FW for slicing/anything else.
