It has been years since I have jailbroken an iOS device, I am happy enough using whatever features there are available on iOS.

How ever I am getting a little bored with my device and considering doing it again.

What would be your main reasons for jailbreaking a device now?

Before even starting to think about it, what IOS are you talking about?

Those who ask this question really have no idea what problem jailbreaking would solve for them.

Add in that you're bored and essentially what you are implying to me is this: "Jailbreaking will relieve my boredom, I just don't know how so I thought I'd ask other people about why they jailbreak so I can get ideas."

First off. Jailbreaking will not relieve your boredom. It will still be the same device, the same iOS and once you're done applying whatever tweak or theme you THINK will relieve your boredom you'll be right back in the same spot - bored.

Find a legit reason to jailbreak. If you have no problems with how stock iOS functions then there is really nothing that jailbreaking is going to solve for you (boredom is not something jailbreaking can solve).

I jailbreak because I have certain issues with how stock iOS functions and looks. I want it to function the way I want it to function and look.

Calls and text messages from the lockscreen. Doing away with all the white from iOS. More icons in folders, more icons on the screen, arranged the way I want them to be arranged. Those and other things are why I jailbreak. Until Apple introduces those things stock (and don't think they do a good job at implementing it (Quick Reply can't hold a candle to BiteSMS for instance)) I have reasons to jailbreak.

I did jealbreak my iOS 7 on iPhone 4 to iOS 8xx but instead of advantages my phone was almost non-responsive and I had to change it.

You don't jailbreak to upgrade. You can upgrade stock. In fact Apple prefers that you do that.

iPhone 4 cannot run iOS 8 - even if you jailbreak it.

Maybe you meant iPhone 4s?

If you did, then jailbreaking to downgrade is what you did. Which is an advantage.

Who cares why anyone jailbreaks. My reasons may not be yours.

And if you've been running stock for a while now and you like at fine, so be it. Google why others have jail-broke if you want reasons why.

But if you like being on the latest iOS because security is important to you, JBing is definitely not for consideration.

Jb tweaks encompass more than just cosmetic ones (not that it's relevant to this thread).

I use iBlacklist which actually blocks calls unlike Apples call blocking. I also used it to block SMS texts I was getting a few months ago on a new phone number. The old owner was a ********* and I was literally getting about 30 texts an unbelievable amounts of calls from people wanting her services. I set the app to auto reply stating this was a new number and that there was no one named Carmen using this number. Within a week 99% of the calls and texts ended and two weeks later, all of them ended.

Of course none of my phone book contacts got those replies, it worked great and I will always JB for this app.

I must keep this app in mind...no issues like yours with my number so far, but the potential uses are intriguing.

It's got a number of options. And you can use it as a blacklist (block individual calls) or as a whitelist (all calls are blocked except for those on your whitelist).

You obviously don't jailbreak then if you think that. The cosmetic changes are secondary for me, the main things that are important to me are nothing to do with cosmetic.

I laughed out loud at this one.

What bad luck that is to get a former *********'s old number.

Thank you for the much needed laugh.

Unfortunately it wasn't fun to go through. The phone was ringing several times per hour and I would get at least 100 text messages per day form people looking for that girl. This is a 303 area code in Colorado yet most of the calls and texts came from Kansas City.

I'm a simple man. I like my five column home screen and dock. I like having my volume indicator up in the status bar. I enjoy being able to downloading videos from Facebook directly to my iPhone. There are just so many enhancements that make using the iPhone such a joy.

All of my JB reasons stopped being developed for and don't work anymore, even though I paid for them. I can't blame devs, they probably have a very limited market. This time around it will only be people smart enough to not upgrade to 10.2, and tough enough to not be afraid of the JB process and subsequent security issues. I'm not sure there is a solution, or if it will continue to die until it's gone.
