'Advertising Age' Names Apple 'Marketer of the Decade'

They actually deserve the award for very positive reasons, none of which you've posted of course. :p

During the heaviest recession (especially in the U.S) Apple managed to exceed the quarterly goals which many companies have failed. In tern, they are able to put more money into the system by employing more people so in the end, it's a win win.

If anything it shows why our economy is crap because instead of paying bills people were buying iPhones.

The problem with your analogy is that Exxon (and all the oil tycoons out there) profited off something the average consumer had no control over. We were strong armed into believing that prices were on the rise because of some completely fabricated reason. However, we couldn't say "no" because the entire industry was forcing these prices. We didn't have a choice, we need gas to drive, to work, to pay for the roof over our head.
:(

So companies shouldn't make profits on things we "need", only things we "want"? A profit of 8% isn't really a massive profit. Prices were on the rise for some reason because even though prices increased the profit margin stayed about the same.

To put it in perspective if you take the profit equation out of oil the price of gas falls about $0.15-$0.20 per gallon, or not much. However you pay almost $0.50 per gallon in direct taxes. Your government makes more money than your oil company does when it comes to selling gas.

LOL wow...you sound like a little kid crying about not getting a dollar from their parents for the ice cream truck....what has apple lied about...apple products are not quality products?? Lol man....i would love to hear what you have to say are lacking in quality...and the rumored air refresh...how is that apple lies...what has APPLE said about the the air refresh...nothing at all...all the rumors coming up are from the he said she said game...nothing in your response means anything at all, but shows the stupidity of a lot of people out there. :apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

I think he's referring to the Mac vs PC adverts, in which they comprised of mostly ball-faced lies.

Apple had shown quality and well designed product does count. People who make cheap thoughtless thing should learn from Apple.

My favorite thing about Apple's marketing strategy is they basically say, "We're advertising and you're going to see it, love it and buy it." And then everybody says, "ok, great let's do it".

What he doesn't realize is apple bills you for your iPhone purchase. So people can buy iPhones AND pay their bills! :D

Well then I guess they're talking about next year? I'm referring to this part:

...removing the company from the running for its annual "Marketer of the Year" award...

That sounds like they're talking about something that hasn't been picked yet. So 2011 is what they meant...I guess?

Sorry for any confusion. This is all about 2010. Apple was at the top of the list for the 2010 consideration, but it's been at or near the top for so many years that they decided to just pull it out of the running for 2010 and give it a newly-created "Marketer of the Decade" award, allowing the 2010 yearly award to go to Ford.

...

Some people are upset the CEO of Exxon made $27 million last year and people seem to be upset of Exxon's "massive profits" even though their profit margin is a small 8.3%. However nobody really has a problem with Steve Jobs making $14 billion at Apple nor do they have a problem with their 20.7% profit. Even though Apple makes over twice as much profit as an oil company people hate them for some reason but you'll never hear a hipster talk about Apple "making too much".

For the slow people, I have no problem with Steve's payrate or Apple's profit margin. I hope Apple rakes in billions more, it helps the economy.

I think that, people don't like Exxon because they don't like the oil industry and exxon is just the poster child. If Exxon came out with new and better products and was able to market properly & distinguish themselves (in a positive way, of course) I'm sure they'd be like alot more.
Currently if you don't like their products, you don't have much choice - going to a competitor will just give you a similar product.

So when a company that is generally disliked make alot of money from us, we get upset.

Conversely, people like Apple because they keep coming with new products & markets this well... and of course there is distinguishable choice (from competitors). So when a company that we like makes money, we don't have as big of a hangup.

If anything it shows why our economy is crap because instead of paying bills people were buying iPhones.

And this is Apple's fault how? A company can market the products in your face till the cows come home but it's YOUR choice to buy. And honestly, why do you care if people neglect paying their bills in favor of buying a toy of their choice? It's odd that you'd say that, it's really shouldn't be your concern.

Name one of the Mac vs PC ads where Apple actually lied. Don't generalize either, please point out exactly what they lied about.

I wasn't blaming Apple, I was more-or-less just calling out your exaggerated response to Apple bringing consumers to the spending plate.

It wasn't exaggerated at all. That's how money is circulated in the system to raise the wealth of the economy, by way of successful companies that are able to hire people. Still didn't make sense by what you said about people buying iPhones instead of paying bills. Why do you care?

Breaking News!

This just in! Microsoft was just granted a trademark on the phrase "Marketer Of The Decade".
Details at 11.

I'm not bitter about anything. Of course they're different from competitors all companies are different. If they were all the same there would be no point to competition.

That does not negate my statement. Apple has made huge profits, they use cheap Chinese labor, Steve Jobs is filthy rich like so many other CEOs, they use heavy handed tactics towards their competitors and so forth. I'm not opposed to their tactics, profits, or use of Chinese labor but I'm just pointing out the fact. In that aspect they are like most every other company. For whatever reason people believe just don't want to believe that to be the case with Apple.

I always get annoyed when people whine about cheap chinese labour, what do you expect those workers to be doing if nothing was manufactured there? Being chinese myself, I know most of them are happy to have a job and with the price of living in china quite cheap, they ain't exactly starving after work, I can't say the same if they had no means at all to make money.

We've seen this happen in other Asian countries, where self righteous protesters force companies to shut down factories and the people who work there are forced into unemployment and having to do worse jobs

Because when people don't pay their bills it effects the economy worse than when they buy an iPhone. Also, Apple doesn't reinvest the money they make back into the American economy. They pump it all back into the Chinese Economy or hoard it. Not saying I wouldn't do the same just saying your a sensationalizing Apple's profits in relation to our economy. With jobs the amount of jobs Apple creates here in America is pretty darn negligible. The jobs they contract or create overseas on the other hand is pretty substantial.

Good for them

Anyone who can market a $500 device nobody really needs and laptops that cost twice what the equivalent Windows laptops (in terms of hardware capability) cost deserves this award!

On second thought, I don't think I've ever seen an ad for iPhone...and if there is one I bet it's nerdy or sappy or happy or generally whatev. Droid commercials are hot. They clearly aim for the teen to early 30's male demographic.

The ironic thing is that for as nerdy as Apple's ads can be, you probably have to be a nerd to get a Droid to work well. I was a nerd in my late 20s early 30s. I built my own boxes and used Linux. Now I just want my tech to work and get on with my life. To get this I'll be satisfied to live in a walled garden.

Still, I think Apple's ads should get some edge. Not everyone is an art student, emo barista.

I COULDN"T agree more...this is me. :)
