I love how the people on here are pushing for a paid model on sites. I can only imagine they don't care much for poor people being on their internet.

I’ve already said I’m not suggesting my scheme be mandatory. Those not paying can be given an alternative experience.

You're not the problem then. Some people seem to want ads wipe out and have it only be a paid thing.

You can't give them what they want and have block as well. Its either one way or the other

So I'm getting Netflix and Spotify premium for free?

That's actually a very good analogy. You can listen to Spotify basic. You get limited features, and in exchange, you have to listen to ads every 20-30 minutes. You can pay extra and get the full feature set and no more ads.

Content on the internet is a lot like that. You can access sites for news, sports, technology, games, etc. In exchange, those sites will monitor who you are and potentially try to sell you something relevant to you in exchange for money to help pay for the content you enjoy & keep coming back for. Some sites let you skip the ads if you pay for a subscription.

In this new utopia of no tracking, you should expect to see sites charge you for content just so they can keep the lights on. Want to see the latest sports scores? Just pay $20 a month...or enable cookies. Want to read up on MacRumors? An annual pass will be $250...or enable cookies.

I don't need cookies enabled to be able to see ads. Cookies are fine as long as they don't track me everywhere I go. This is where the problem lies. The more intrusive the ads get the more people will look for ways around seeing them. Some sites are so bad they are not worth the time to even visit because of the ads.

Then you have the fake story ads that are the worst of the worst.

So you would rather see banners for a Windows Surface, an Android phone, and subscription offers for the the Heritage Foundation instead of ads that are more specific to products and services that actually might interest you?

Think about it, the more effective the ad is, the more the site can make from referral clicks. The more the site can make from referral clicks, the more content they can deliver to you, the consumer, for free. When the ads they push are not relevant to you, you don't click them, the site doesn't make money, and eventually shuts down.

As for the fake story ads, I assume you mean the clickbait BS that has become so pervasive on the bottom of almost all sites these days. That's not what I'm talking about as those are absolute garbage.
