Envirofone are offering £430 today for iPhone 7 Plus 256GB. O2 offering £410 via Recycle.

2 weeks today is the 12th (Keynote day). I’d be without a phone for quite a while then, since preorders wouldn’t open until the Friday and the delivery date of phone is so unclear at this moment. So may have to wait for preorders and the phone to be delivered (hopefully on launch day) before recycling my phone, though the O2 Recycle value would have likely dropped from £410 then.

It is very hard but like you I will try and do it at 8/9am on the O2 website.
Musicmagpie are offering £496 right now for the 7 plus 256GB

Sell it to them a day before the keynote and you have 14 days to send it to them and the offer stays for that time and send it to them hopefully by that two week period you may have your phone

Well even the 7 plus 128GB you could get £455 with them

Ooh that’s the best price I’ve seen.

I do get a bit twitchy about sending a phone off like that, in case they claim it’s faulty or something. Am I just being paranoid? My 7+ is in perfect nick.

Also you say to sell it the day before the keynote - but won’t their price have decreased by then do you think? I have an iPhone 6 I can use in the meantime.

I've never had any issues and always got what they quoted.

My plan is to go with the highest and apply to send it off the day before the keynote as soon as the keynote comes that price goes down even though it's not out yet. Then leave it to the last day to send it to them and see basically how close you are to getting your new phone..it's only an issue if the iPhone doesn't arrive in the first two weeks which is possible i guess

Since I have an iPhone 6 to use in the interim I’d probably send it off a bit sooner.

But thank you for the advice and pointing out this service (and attesting to their reliability).

I’m just a bit stuck at the moment about whether to go via O2 or buy outright. There are pros and cons to both but I think I have to choose before the moment of truth as you have a matter of minutes (or less than a minute) to get it for launch day, if I’m not wrong?

Yeah you have to act quick. I was going to buy sim free but if it's going to cost £1,100 for the 256GB i will go on contract. Least now on o2 and EE you upgrade every 12 months which is what i do so even though I'm likely going to pay £70 a month at least to me thats worth it compared to folding out over a grand upfront each year.

I'm on a sim only plan now and have already gone over my mins. Least with this upgrade every 12 months option contract i don't need to worry about data, mins and i get a new phone each year.

Not used MM before. How long do you have to send the item? I'm not having much luck with their FAQs or Google.

Send a few devices to them including my 9.7 iPad Pro and got the money quickly.

You get 14 days to send them the device

How long until the price they quote drops - do you think it’ll still be the same this Friday (giving until the week of the keynote before needing to send in while keeping the guaranteed price?)

I notice Envirofone offer the same £450 as MMP and O2 Recycle will match Envirofone’s price, so I guess there’s not much difference.

The question is when is best to wait until before placing the order to get the 2 weeks guaranteed price but still get the best price.

Hard to say really. Suppose it could drop each week

Maybe apply for the price now and wait to send it off and see if it changes next week then apply again. The quote they give you when you apply will stay the same for 14 days

Thanks.

Presumably they need to have received it by the 14th day, so if I applied tomorrow (30th) I would need to send it on the 11th for delivery the 12th (2 weeks from 30th)?

Think as long as they get it on day 14 yeah should be fine. Just make sure you sent it speical delivery

So it’ll be a case of deciding very fast then on the O2 website.

I’m kind of crazy with this, because it feels like a gamble. If the tariffs are extortionate I might feel better buying the phone from Apple direct but by the time I’ve seen the tariffs I’ll have missed the window to order for launch day delivery. So I have to choose whether I’m going with O2 or Apple before “the moment”.

Pros of O2 are lower upfront cost but Pros of Apple are I keep my existing monthly charge from O2 and see no increase.

Ack it’s difficult! What are you going to do?

You can see the price on Apple's website, I'd suggest pre ordering it the moment it goes live, they won't charge your card until it ships anyway. Then when the carrier pre orders goes live, check out the plans ASAP and place an order if you'd like and then cancel the Apple pre order.

I am buying it outright, 64GB model, as long as it stay under £1000. Otherwise I'll upgrade via contract.

They may not take the money till it's shipped but they do check to see if the funds are available by putting a hold on the card

You’re like my guardian angel! I’m learning all the tricks from you!

So order with Apple outright, then if I see the O2 deal and like it (and their delivery date), go with them and cancel the Apple order. Makes sense and seems foolproof.

Interesting you’re going for 64GB. I was almost a cert to go with 256GB but I’ve just checked my own phone and am only using 48.4GB on my device. I could maybe survive going from 128GB to 64GB on this basis - but then I think with 256GB I’d be able to use ‘Download Originals’ in iCloud Photos (102GB of photos). But does that matter in this age?

You’ve been so helpful. I’m very grateful.

Interesting - if they do this, would the funds be inaccessible to use to pay O2?

Well normally the money goes in the available part of your account then once it's checked the money comes back and goes again when it's shipped but from past history the hold doesn't happen straight away but it could.

So my guess is you would likely need to have money for both.

Well the 128GB iPhone 7 Plus on the 50GB tariff is £93 a month so it’s not really different. 50GB data tariffs are very expensive.
Outright is the only way to go if your a heavy user I only pay £22 unlimted data on three SIM Only use around 150gb each month.

I think the official release date will be the 22nd.

I have a feeling the UK outright price will be

64GB - £919
256GB - £1019
512GB - £1119

but just a guess.

My next question for the kind O2 gurus is: when do they announce the tariffs? Do we get any time beforehand to look at them or do they get announced on pre-order day?

I imagine we’ll see big increases in monthly payment and/or upfront costs to offset the more expensive phone so it’d be nice to check out the tariffs without humongous time pressure.

If you pre order yours within the first minute or two then you'll get it on launch day (22nd Sep as per latest leaks), if you're late then you'll probably get it some time in October or even November/December.

Cost should be under £999, probably £949/969 for base model with 64GB of storage.
[doublepost=1504027942][/doublepost]

It's announced on pre-order day, which would be September 15th (as per latest leaks). Carrier tariffs are always announced on their website on the day of pre-orders.

Increases won't be that much, only a little bit more than the current tariff for iPhone 7+ 256GB, which sells for £919 unlocked.

Really hope its not over £900, I can afford it but I'd really have to start questioning if I need it.

I might go with 256GB if it’s priced under £1000, probably won’t be, so my only choice is 64GB. I owned a 128GB iPhone, but with this new iPhone 8, I’ll be keeping photos and videos (which took most storage) on iCloud to save space.

I asked Apple Support and they said they only charge £1 on the card to make sure it’s valid, the remaining amount is charged when it ships. When I ordered my Apple Watch and Airpods, I wasn’t charged until it shipped.

You can double check by talking to Apple Support if you want.

I’m now leaning heavily towards buying outright from Apple. Though more expensive, it’ll be cheaper in the long run I figure.

And I am right in thinking it gives one the best chance of delivery for launch day?

I just really hope it’s no more than £1000 on the dot, as that’s going to start to hurt.

Yes.

It definitely won't be £1000 for the base model, most likely £949 for base model, £1049 for 256GB and £1149 for 512GB. Apple's UK pricing for iPhones is basically US pricing - 50, so the base model will be $999 in US and £949 here (999 - 50).

If it’s £1050 for 256GB I’ll get that model - if it’s a penny more I’ll go 64GB.

Ah the waiting game is painful isn’t it? Put in for my recycling today at £450 for the 7+ 128GB. Got my trusty old iPhone 6 to tide me over in the meantime.

I suppose it’s really not long now to wait. Just hope I’m not unlucky. I wonder what the probability of getting it on launch day is if you order the second pre-orders come on to Apple UK website this year. No way of knowing for sure I suppose
