do not look at the ipad 3 screen.

i used my friends ipad 2 screen yesterday and it was horrible.

That's the biggest upgrade for me was the screen and I definitely appreciate it. I'll be glad when more apps begin to take advantage of the screen.
 
Sorry for hijacking this thread with a query exactly same as OPs.
I am planning to buy the iPad 2 over the iPad 3 because i am not really concerned much about the retina display. I did see both of them side by side at bestbuy and to my totally untrained eyes i did not see a stark difference. But that is just me.
Also i am aware about the usage of the iPad i will have so i am more interested in saving that 100 $ and using a part of it for case and screen protectors.

Is not a bad choice (going with the 2), especially if you plan on using the iPad outside in bright environments. I use mine all the time on the patio to read the morning paper, at the coffee shop, or in the car. And you'll have an extra $100 in your pocket for apps and accessories.
