Your car and clothes are also out of date. How embarrassing is that. Be sure you are going the the latest most fashionable restaurants and bars. Staying ahead socially is so difficult.

Nothing's dates you faster than your phone.

If you have something older than 2 years, you're probably broke, uncool and unhip, and on the fast road to mediocrity.

If you're out with friends and you keep your phone in your purse/pocket while everybody else's is on the table, it's a telltale sign.

I luv it. :D

People are so shallow.

Small wonder so many people carry a CC balance every month, have mounting debt, little $$$ saved for retirement, and other ills.

LOL, IKR? I could care less where my phone is when I’m hanging out with my friends. It should be put away anyways so that we can spend time TALKING to each other in person rather than staring at our screens.

I have an Ip7 that is great, except as soon as the X comes out it will be an old, obsolete 4 year old design. Looks like I just have to get the X to stay current.
It's always better to buy second version of every one Apple device, so I'd prefer to stay with iPhone 7 this year and maybe upgrade next year with new iPhone X (s?) :)

The X design was wanted when the 6 came out. lol. I remember everyone whining about how the bezels were still there.

I am still blown away they offered the 8 in the same style. Amazing laziness from all involved.

Lol, peer pressure's not an issue at my workplace. I'm surrounded by frugal people (some of whom don't even own cellphones at all). I actually don't know why some of them don't retire yet. Daily stock market movement is sometimes higher than their annual salary.

The richest person I know, worth well into the tens of millions, uses an iPhone 4S. It's strictly the middle class that play into this "toys means I'm rich" mentality.

That said, the same guy also drives a Mercedes SLR so... maybe not.

False. There is absolutely nothing obsolete about the design of the 6/6s/7/8. They are still quite current.

Sounds to me like you just want to play "keeping up with the Joneses".

Rich people get rich and stay rich by not having all the latest stuff.

I’m not. It gives the individual the opportunity of a choice between iPhone X or the iPhone 8/8+ with touch ID . I’m glad Apple offered both the iPhone 8/8+ plus the iPhone X for those that want that one. I don’t like the notch, I am still kind of leery on the OLED screen until next year.

I couldn't agree more. I hate to see people at restaurants with their phones right on the table as if anything someone texted or called about would be more important than the people they are with. I realize there are times it is important to be available but surely that doesn't apply to everyone at the table.

Remember when you purchased a mobile phone to make calls ?

My brother and I were just talking about this yesterday. Before he showed me the very first iPhone keynote in 2007, I used to say, "I just need a phone to make phone calls; I don't need texting, and I don't need internet. I just need to make calls."

Well, until I saw that keynote, anyway. :D

Before my 6s in 2015, I had a Motorola A840 for 11 years.

I laughed when anyone would ask why I was still using it. It was small, voice calls were crystal clear, and battery life was great.

What more did I need?

Correction: on the model number

I'm thinking this thread is a bit "tongue in cheek" , but the reality is far to many people have self esteem problems and having the latest and greatest helps that issue. if you need a new phone, by all means get the latest thing and keep it till the wheels fall off, but to pay $1000+ to impress your friends is stupid and some take out financing to do so which is even more stupid. SMH

To be fair, the 4S was an awesome phone. I kept using that phone longer than I did any other iPhone (3 years, I normally go 2, sometimes 1 ). I recently powered up my old 4S to give my son a phone to play with, and it's just magnificent. IMO the best looking iPhone design to date. And the smaller size feels great in the hand, better than the SE/5S. He may just use it because he likes it the better than newer models.

OLED screens are what make the edge to edge displays possible. Lower power consumption. If the iphone 8/8s had a edge to edge screen it would need a much larger battery. Would you be ok with the 8/8s was double the thickness and maybe double the weight to have enough battery?

It's called engineering decisions and compromised to optimize a product for production and sale.

I remember the days when both my parents AND some of my friends even said "what do I need texting for? If I need to communicate with someone I'll just call"

My, how the times have changed.
