I take mine everywhere I go, including construction sites, etc.
I bought it with a VISA card that doubles the manufacturer's warranty for free, so I didn't have to buy AppleCare (at least not yet).
I have insured it against accidental damage and theft (cheap!), just to be safe.
In other words, I don't leave home with out it!
