Ditto with me as well. Interesting to know why this is happening to some but not all.

Lion already on system. No software that has not been approved for Lion, system is new. Maybe a common issue with those that have older system and upgraded to Lion. Unknown, but worth a discussion.

2 machines with no problems here. I have also noticed that the memory management seems to be a lot better with this release. So far, so good. Let's see if I get kernel panics still.

2 of my systems were early 2011 systems (both originally had SL but were upgraded to Lion on release day) and the 3rd is a late 2009 mini server running Lion server (also upgraded from SL server on release day), so I don't think that is the common factor.

I had this problem updating this morning via System Update on an early 2011 15" MBP. Wiped the drive and restored a Time Machine backup from an hour before the patch. Downloaded the combo updater from apple.com, and now everything works fine.

There seems to be a problem with the version provided to System Update, but the Combo Update is fine.

I upgraded 3 system without issue, and Safari seems much faster and snappier. Sorry for those that experienced issues.

Same here, iMac, MBP MBA although the Pro did take longer to complete the install....Have opened apps, tried crashing them all....I notice no improvement though, so if this issue persists, it might be best to wait a while....No consolation for those with problems now I know.

Damn, I'm still on 10.7

This will be 3 releases I have now skipped.

2010 MBA

Add me to the pile with a hosed mid 2010 Mbp.
Restoring back to 10.7.2 via TM now.
I had the missing dialog box buttons and ALL apps crash, including, rather amusingly, the crash reporter.
Lion has been really stable for me until now so will revert back and wait for 10.7.4 thanks Apple

Everything works fine here......I even installed microsoft office immediatley after the update.......so far so good. Sorry to the ones having issues.

Can I use the combo updated to do a "safe" update? Or should I just wait for Apple to fix the main update path?

Apparently so but I wouldn`t touch .3 with a bargepole either way right now.
If you`re feeling brave make sure you have a recent backup to restore to just in case.
It`s cost me 2 hours of messing around today already.

I bit the bullet and did a clean install of Lion on both my MacBook Air 2010 and MacBook Pro 2011. So far and thankfully no issues and it does seem to run a bit snappier. I've hated Lion since 10.7.0 but 10.7.3 seems to resolve a lot of the issues I had.

I'm pretty new to Apple's OS, being a longtime Windows user.

Lat night I installed the Lion update, via Software Update on my late 2011 MacBook Pro (13" i5). Everything seems to be working normally, with no program crashes, yet.

My question is, is it advisable, or even possible, to use the combo updater, after having installed the update via system update, just to be sure that the update is bug free?

Thanks

i hear ya on that, supposedly there were instructions that said if any updates were to be applied, roll back lol. who woulda remembered? i got a happy peppy menu bar now too.

other than that all the apps i have seem to be working alright.

Quite messing around with the OS files and you wouldn't have a problem

it's's fun. and looks good:D

simple fix. i just rolled back and restored the obsidian bar to default. installing the new updates now and when obsidian is supported I will download it again.

it's too easy to customize these things with apps like candybar, loginox, obsidian and nocturne. just would never expect an update to change such small items as a hand or the menu bar.

Take a look at this blog post.

so its basically a way to install it into a specific folder before you install it on the computer, without using system update. and easier way to install the updates on multiple computers?

I will admit, it does look pretty snazzy =)I have no problem with people making their system look the way they want. Most people aren't smart enough, unlike you, to realize that it was something that they had installed that caused the problem. And just continue to complain that apple messed something up, or my favorite is when they time machine it back and the same thing happens again not realizing, hmmm maybe its something in the time machine image i used that is causing it, because it doesn't affect them until they install the update. There should be a customization community and there should be a haxie community. It just drives me crazy when they say apple's update messed up my system instead of the haxie i did screwed up the OS update.

99.00 % agree with derekamoss above......

Just wanted to weigh in and update my previous post....

Updated yesterday, and reported here that I had no issues. For the heck of it, I wiped my hard drive using the secured clean and later installed clean the update again and still no issues. Did not use Time Machine either. Confused as to why others have this issue, since we all download from the same site. I have not installed anything goofy or made any changes and left Lion stock (Default) if that has anything to do with the issues some are having.

Good luck guy/gals ;)

Was met with a "None of your preferred networks are available" this morning even though it was right at the top. Maybe things still aren't fixed yet.

No issues here.

I take it back, o lord I take it back. Heh.

My Mission Control is broken now. I don't see any of my desktops at the top. Can still click them to activate the desktop. I think it has something to do with the fact that I changed the background image for Mission Control.

And miraculously, a reboot didn't fix it, but posting to MacRumors did...:apple:
