Many people make a modest switch to a Macbook or Mac mini and they are very happy.

You took a pretty big step (mobile core i5, 4 gigs RAM, GT 330 M) in going for the rather expensive 15" inch MBP, but I can't think of a better intro to the world of Apple (other than the 17" inch MBP) ;). I also think you will like the sheer power without having to recharge as much on a similarly configured PC laptop and the relatively thin, light design is a plus.

Welcome.

Last April my wife and I switched for good. She with a Macbook, and I got a 13" MBP. I've been an off-and-on Mac user for years. Two months ago, I swapped up to a mid-level 15" MBP, but in the past year, and odd thing has happened. My wife, who dwelled in a perpetual state of computer apathy, ranging from tolerance to severe dislike of most technology, has become extremely protective of her Macbook, and a staunch Apple supporter. It's almost humorous, in a way.

It's interesting, watching someone completely uninterested in computers, that has worked with Windows PCs her entire life, make a complete 180 switch, and now view Windows with near revulsion.

OP: welcome aboard, it's a smooth ride ahead. :)

I don't think I'll understand how someone could ever get this worked up over a computer

This is actually common for some people that have been long time PC users ... when they get on the Mac ... changes everything.

Funny though ... I have never met a Mac user jumping to PC without regret.

Try an iMac next. You'll never want to leave the computer.

but I always refer to my Macbook Pro as the stupid/dead-end sibling. I bought it in June, so it is new and all, but it is just dumb. It does not compare to my iMac at all.

Hello, my name is Drew, and I'm a recovering alc - oh, sorry. I'm a proud PC user. Not that I don't like my mac, especially compared to a $300 P(oS)C, but I generally buy Dell Latitude laptops, make my own (near) silent desktops, and really, when you compare Apple hardware to high end PC hardware, and the OS's are near identical anymore...

I miss Mail.app and Dashboard on my PC, I miss the ability to customize and do anything imaginable on my mac.

I feel the same way.

Got a MBP off Craigslist to do an iPhone app as a lark. Gradually got into it... gradually decided Windows was a P.O.S.... no turning back!

Enjoy!

Like I said ... after working for 25 years in Graphic Arts and Printing Industry ... I have never met a Mac owner that jumped to PC.

In my Industry ... Mac is how we roll ... actually up until recent years ... PCs would cause a problem when trying to print ... there used to be a saying ... let me guess, you designed this on a PC?

However I will admit ... PCs are getting better ... just never met a Mac user who wanted one.

Return it as quickly as possible!! You've become infected!!

Once you got a MBP it will soon take over. Then you need a iMac, then an iPhone, then an iPad :p

I know why I waited, and that was simply because of the price tag, but when i got some money i bought a 13.3" MBP 2010 and soon there will be a iMac in the collection too.

LOL!

You are right, after having my iPod Touch 4 for only a few weeks, I now want the MacBook Air and an iPad!

OP, It does infect you, and I'm going to help you with the iPhone 4 part...
You said you don't want to part with your Blackberry, you should try the iPod touch 4. Just like the iPhone without the calling, texting, and data plan.

Enjoy your MacBook!

Originally, I thought iPod and the PC friendly iPod after that was a way to get PC users to switch to Macintosh. It was a simplistic, short sighted theory thinking small Apple devices would take a backseat.

Most iPod owners and iPhone owners I know don't use a Mac, nor do they care, but they treat their iPods and iPhones like its their most cherished possession.

Who knew that iPod and iTunes would eventually account for nearly 60% percent of Apple's net income, and lead to iPhone and iPad, and seeing Apple's employee base quadruple?

That's so true. I've noticed this with so many people. And when one of my aquaintance's winbox crashes in some way and I fix it for them, they always dismiss the Mac I'm recommending. I've even pointed out how much they like their apple device. Maybe one day.

I dig OSX....but there are still a ton of things that piss me off that I am used to in windows. I know I just gotta get over it...but just sayin' ;)

Mainly for me..the things that piss me off are.......

Being used to A LOT of windows shortcut keys. Esp. the Run prompt..UGH so easy.

Alt-tabbing is slightly different on OSX. annoys the hell out of me.

being used to using little applications here and there that aren't available for osx.

all my external hard drives are NTFS heh. UGH.

It may never happen, but it doesn't really matter.

Apple's Mac line sporting OSX, iPod/iTunes, and iPhone (on ATT, and now Verizon) are all completely different products which stand on their own, any of which could hold up Apple Inc by itself.

Just with iTunes alone the Beatles went gold (again) in just hours and Apple and the Beatles (et al) laughed all the way to the bank. That's not to mention the ton of cash iTunes has generated with all the bands put on there before the Beatles.

Shh..! Dont spread the secret!:apple: Haha I just got my first Mac a MBP 13" and this thing is overwhelmingly amazing....Sometimes I decide to accomplish multiple tasks that require a computer at once just because I can...Video editing? Paper due tomorrow? Bit torrent? Music playing? Can you do it on a netbook well yeah but on my MBP I can do it all at the same time without it slowing down...its like magic...if I run itunes on a PC it may not kill the speed but it does get it crawling...open youtube on top of that and it falls to its knees...

WTF is this machine? How was I not on this a long time ago...

I am in love with it...simply amazing...got a base model 15" and literally cannot wait to get home from work everyday to use it...

Glad to be part of the Mac family and I do not see myself ever going back to PeeC.:D

Just wait until 3 years from now when you go to boot it up and it actually does so as fast as the day you bought it. :)

My 2005 iMac does exactly that, even after a couple of major OSX upgrades. I've never had that happen with Wintel machine. (Hint: There is no registry to get bloated like a tick on a dog.)

Enjoy your new healthy body, free of migraines and high blood pressure.

I love a good conversion story. :D

Welcome to the family! Our kool-aid is better tasting anyway.

Well unlike Jim Jones pentobarbital laced Koolaid as far as I'm concerned this Koolaid is much better than windows! Though I still appreciate windows and I always will have a place for XP Pro in my heart but I gotta do what I gotta do..:D:D

that's what I find amazing, the fact that relatively inexpensive devices (as compared to a full-fledged computer) could propel the company to such profit.

Mine

Just bought a macbook pro, 8gb memory, highest spec i could get. I find the windows interface perfectly sound, I detest the lousy performance, the need to upgrade to new hardware with each release, the needless and endless interface changes, the microsoft tax, the frequent crashes, the security holes etc etc etc. I have to use windows and am installing parallels, but that will only be for software I absolutely must have.

My limited experience so far is that its full of irritations due to me being used to the windows way (eg the right-mouse click) but I am picking up the Mac way and its largely better or comparable.

Beautiful screen, excellent built-in software and generally pleased I got it. Its no more expensive than comparable Dells and its exquisite to use. Need to get the region free DVD thing sorted, which is a major pain, but I can always buy an external one if it gets desperate.

Its nice to see people who switch I can remember when I went completely all Mac for production (2008, after having a Mac of some form kicking around for the best part of a decade, and using them more and more and more....) - just remember, they kick ass :D
