Yes maybe...but...explain why Apple is replacing his watch, if this are normal wear marks, or they make charity?
You are wrong, if apple admits the problem Replacing his watch.

Yeah, the Apple Representative and the engineers do believe this is a problem and they want to address it by stress testing my watch band.

I just examined my white sport band in greater detail, and sure enough it's exhibiting wear in exactly the same places as the OP's. The difference is that it's barely noticeable with the white. I couldn't even get it show up on camera. I think the difference is simply due to the color.

My white one has similar marks. Hardly noticeable and it is on the underside so no one will see it but me anyway.

"Imagine that you buy expensive leather shoes and in 2 days it shows wear use. unacceptable.
Stop excusing Apple. Come on they could be wrong sometimes, it's not that bad.

Umm - my $275 Hugo Boss Leather shoes showed wear use 2 days after I got them (two long days in the city). I took them for a nice shine.

Apple will often replace items for someone with a complaint - less work - especially early in the lifecycle. No judgement from me on if he is right or wrong, but I would not take Apple's replacement as "validation"

I've just noticed my white sport band has the same wear pattern after 5 days of use. It's very difficult to see on the white though, you have to catch it in the light just right. I think it's just normal wear and tear, but the black strap shows it more than the other colors. I'm really not worried about it myself.

After 3 days, my Black Sport Band is wearing down.

I have a white band and it looks as new as the day I got it. I also have a black band on order. *Check that* upon close inspection in bright light my white band has the same wear, not a big deal band wear...get over it.

That's what my white band looks like. It's not an issue with white, since you have to hold it just the right way to even see it, and it's on the inside of the band.

My 42mm SG

I've been fallowing the threads every day, especially the SG threads. I've been wearing mine since launch day and it did show the "worn" marks after the first weekend on the underside. I expected this before I even had the watch. So no big deal.

When I started to read about SG bands "peeling", I was skeptical because I have not babied my watch at all and I work hard with my hands all day for a living and Have had no signs of any permanent damage on either the face or the band (aside from the ware on the underside). After one week of use I thought those with "peeling" bands were just the very rare unfortunate.

Today, after 10 days of solid use... My watch band is now "peeling". Next to the link connection just outside of the face. The worst part is how it started. I saw some dust on my band and blew it off. I wiped my pointer finger along the edge of the band connection and noticed a mark where my finger just rubbed. I thought it was something from my finger that I wasn't aware of and rubbed again gently with my thumb and then realized as more came off that it was the finish of the band. I one more time touched the area to be 100% sure what was happening and confirmed that a light touch was peeling it off.

This is troubling to me because now I know it will only keep getting worse and look like its diseased in no time I'm sure. I planned on having my watch get knocked around and possibly scratched with my line of work. I knew the rubber-to-rubber contact would show ware, but I did not imagine the finish of the band to peel and wear off... Especially without any real contact or abusive interaction.

I woke up, put my watch on... Gently rubbed at the edge and now it's damaged.

I will contact Apple tomorrow when I have more time to wait on the phone... While I'm not gonna turn green and rip my shirt with rage, I was disappointed this morning with this discovery.

Aside from the band, couldn't be happier with the watch!!

Can say without a doubt that no harsh chemicals or scratches or hits to that area have taken place too.

OP, THIS is an actual defective band.

It only got slightly worse today... Not really much more... I'm going to try to convince Apple to let me purchase a new band and then send back the old one when I receive the new one. This way I can still use the watch. ??

yeah, that band is messed up and should be replaced. hopefully, they will come up with some option for this soon

The same has started to happen to me. Started as a tiny spec yesterday and has grown like yours.

Just an update... I opened up a live chat with apple support and attached the picture in my post. They connected me to a 'senior' phone rep who set up an exchange for me. They're going to send me a new band along with a box to send back the old one.

So far is it just Space Gray Sport watch bands that are reported to be peeling?

So far, knock wood, my black sport band that comes with my SS watch is fine.

I wonder if there's some sort of odd interaction with the Aluminum alloy and perhaps sweat. Or did Space a Gray watches get a bad batch?

It's hard to know for sure because no other Sport watches come with black bands. And the SS watches with black bands may not necessarily have precisely the same black band. We know the color of the metal is different but there may be other differences as well.

I've been wearing my SG Sport since 24th April and it has held up really well so far, through work, exercise and basically anytime I am not sleeping. No signs of wearing on the black band apart from the small "shiny spot" where the band tucks under itself. No peeling, fading or other. Don't fret if you ordered the black band, for me personally there is nothing to worry about yet and I have not babied my watch at all. As far as the watch body, equally no scratches or dents - and I hit is against a metal frame and a wooden door. I examined it today under bright light and its spotless.
My only issue is whether to sell it to CEX UK - as they pay £360 for the watch body and £40 for the strap, making me a profit or £100. I entertain this idea as I have a hankering for the Stainless Steel watch. Not sure why as I am very satisfied with this one. Perhaps it's that old Apple marketing again. I think I'll hold out a bit and see how things develop with pre orders, as selling this watch would leave me waiting 2-3 weeks for the 38mm SS Black Sports band. Decisions decisions.

EDIT- light catching the edge of the composite back make it look chipped/scratched - it's not.

Thanks for the heads up, going to reach out to Apple today.

I was considering getting a black band in addition to my white one, but the peeling issue is worrying. I don't think the wear exhibited by the OP is that big of a deal (assuming it doesn't just keep getting worse and worse over time), but peeling is a genuine defect.

Happening to me too, in the same exact spots as OP. I also noticed my Black Sport band is severely stretching; after just over a week I've had to begin wearing mine one notch tighter than before just to stop it from sliding up and down my wrist.

I have the exact same. Not a problem. It comes off if you wash it. I used mild hand soap, a microfibre cloth and some good old fashioned elbow grease. Guess what? It comes right off and looks like new. So if it does come off it can't be wearing down.
Try it. You will get the same results. I have done this on both SG Sport BSB and SS BSB. Same results on both model of band. Fair enough it's not ideal having to wash it off but then again the parts in question are not on display when the watch is worn. I initially washed it off as I sold the SS watch I had. It came up like new.
