I had it out of the case for 10 minutes max, but when I was walking up the steps outside my building I tripped and I dropped it. Two hairline cracks, both on the right side, one on top and one on bottom.

My biggest concern is that now the waterproofing and dustproofing have been compromised. They aren't big cracks at all. Very small, touch still works (one isn't even on the screen), and are otherwise invisible (unless you hold it in the light just right).

Has any company started iPhone 7 screen replacements other than Apple? I don't have AppleCare and it's cheaper to just pay the fee of $150, but if I can get the glass replaced somewhere else I'd much rather.

Pics. I've been waiting for threads like this.

How long has it been? I'd setup a genius appointment to see what they say, be honest they can be very understanding.

It happened maybe 30 minutes ago?

I'm two hours away from the nearest Apple Store though, and I'm at school. I can go when I go home, but that won't be for two weeks, and I don't really know if I even want to drive two hours if I'm not guaranteed a replacement.

The cracks are very small. I don't have my camera so I can't take a picture (my phone is my main camera), but they're the hairline cracks, both on the right side. One on the bottom that curves up and just barely goes over the screen, and the other goes maybe an inch above the power button and curves into the speaker grille. You can't feel the one on the bottom but you can feel the one on the top. The right side also has some dings in the aluminum.

I'm debating paying the $150 to Apple to replace the screen only, or if I should file an insurance claim with T-Mobile, and for $175 replace the entire phone...

Heh, I meant since you had the phone but I guess it's a dumb question since it's only been a few days since it came out. I'd talk to Apple first, good chance they'll replace it

Applecare costs only $29 for a screen replacement so it's worth it, but in your case since it's already cracked I'd just get it done through Apple. The iPhone 7 is only a little over a week old. I wouldn't trust any 3rd party place to work on your phone since it's so new.

Return in your 14 day window for a full refund and buy again.

I'm on a payment plan, so I don't think it'll go over well.

It's only $29 if you pay the $129 for AppleCare. I already have carrier insurance that'll replace the entire device (which'll fix the cosmetic issues), so I'd rather just do that.

Good luck with that. The insurance company has no iPhone 7/7+ in stock.

I agree with this and also by getting it replaced by someone else you're basically voiding the warranty already within a week of owning it. Don't do that.

It's not like I need it tomorrow or anything. I'm fine with waiting, or maybe I'll go to the Apple Store and see what they say.

For now, I've ordered a case that covered the screen.

I've noticed that it's harder to type on my phone screen now (the keyboard doesn't wanna work right it feels), but when I go home for fall break I'm gonna see what apple says.

Agreed, especially since there is water-proofing involved now. I think the biggest concern is that since we are so early in the model will they be able to replace/repair it right away.

If you are that worried about the water resistance integrity, you may want to take the phone to Apple for a screen replacement.

There are new materials and supposedly the phone is pried open somewhat differently than past models. 3rd party shops and repairers probably haven't had many replacement jobs to this point, so I'd be wary of letting them do so even if just for peace of mind.

I'm pretty sure breaking the device does too, doesn't it?

but at least it would be repaired by apple, and warranty would still be there.

anyways.. getting a 3rd party to change the screen might not guarantee the water resistance to work as expected, since the seal needs to be reapplied.

Why don't you call apple and ask if you can add apple care. Explain to them you have two very small cracks and you forgot to add it. They might let you if you get the right person. I would try that. Never know. Good luck with your endeavor.

Agreed. You have 60 days to add AppleCare+.
