I don't use cases. I got my first smartphone (iPhone) back in 2008 and have never cracked the screen on any of my phones, but I feel it's inevitable.

I thought screen repair fee at Apple was $100.

Edit: nvm I see plus is $150 and regular $129.

If it comes down to needing the screen replaced, you're right to want only Apple to do this.

Even your Apple Store will lack experience/parts in this, and the procedure alone will compromise the IP67 rating. The tear down videos show the sealing won't survive disassembly.

This early in the iPhone 7 game, even if they won't cover the replacement, it's likely they will replace the phone for the cost of a screen replacement.

They may do it for free if it is a single crack in those places and not a spider type crack. I had that on my 6s+ and read that they would do it for free and sure enough they did.

Yeah look at apples website it tells you that. Technically it would be fraud adding it after it's damaged though.
I guess that rep was being lazy, she wanted to transfer her apple care actually to a new phone purchased less then a week old...and they told her to go to the Apple Store to get it inspected and transferred. It was an SE, right about the time they released it.

Actually you'll have to bring the phone in for inspection... they don't let you buy it online or over the phone for a reason ;)
Yep I have done this two years running now. I order apple care over the phone and once I did it over online chat. Easy as pie.

Agreed. It's easy to get AppleCare+ over the phone. I've done it several times. They might run a remote diagnostic, but that's about it.

If you ordered with a credit card, some of them will give you unlimited replacement protection, no matter what happened. I've replaced things I accidentally broke (not iPhones) in past, with 0 cost to me...

I think a Wells Fargo credit card will give you accidental damage protection up to 500 and a bunch of cards mainly visa sig and world master cards will extend your warranty. Some homeowners insurance will allow you to put an inexpensive rider on it.

I wonder how screen replacements at apple stores will work now that the phone has an IP rating. I know other manufacturers with IP rated phones will pressure test them after a repair to make sure the rating is intact. Will Apple be able to do this at their stores or is the IP rating lost once a repair has been performed.

I think if you choose not to warranty the phone and then break it, you should suffer the consequences of your earlier decision. Don't see why you'd be entitled to then change your approach now just because you were careless and broke it.

I think it's also pretty lame that you can't bring yourself to go to an Apple Store two hours from school.

Apple repair only.

3rd party will not use the same type of adhesive and will possibly further damage components of the iPhone since they probably haven't repaired alot at this point. I think there is a good chance they will cut the wifi, power, volume and or the microphone/camera cable or damage them if they happened to have gotten stuck in the adhesive during assembly.

Good luck.

Haha you said Wells Fargo. Lol. Just make sure you are the one that opened the Wells Fargo card. Lol
