After Leopard Install Safari Very Slow

Now that OS X Leopard has been out about 6 months and getting a reader question about upgrading to Leopard with his (NewerTech Dual 1.7GHz 7448) CPU Upgraded G4 Tower (working well in Tiger) I decided to ask for feedback from CPU Upgraded Mac owners running Leopard for awhile in the May 8th news page. I sent Rich some links to previous posts from last fall (Nov 2007) on potential issues (see bottom of page here for reference links to those past posts) And as with any major OS X update, there's also been reports on issues with 10.5 even with modern/current Macs, and some issues seen previously with PCI cards (USB, SATA, etc.) - in some cases updates (OS and/or firmware/drivers) may help but just a FYI to consider that also, as well as checking all your addon software (including codecs, startup/login items, browser addons, etc.) for OS X 10.5 compat. (and check for any updates to them). And of course even on later/modern Macs, Leopard had some issues also (too many to recap here) but his mail gave me the idea to ask for current feedback from CPU Upgraded Mac owners running Leopard now that it's been out for awhile.

Many many many thanks, mercy beaucoup

Dear installingcats,

Today I finally, fully and completely enjoy my new aluminium macbook.

The only thing that kept bothering me was the slowness of safari. After using the open DNS server modification posted by "installingcats" my Safari whistled through the internet pages.

Your detailed description on the installingcats webpage was expectional. Good enough for a non-techy like me to implement it without any problems.

Thanks again.

Michiel

Safari sluggish

I know this is a few months down the line but the above post is / was a bit blunt and uncalled for wasn't it ?

He has told you the answer - even if in a 'non-techy' way.

The System Config folder DOES exist - its in the root level Library folder ( i.e. NOT the user Library)

Deleted mine- restarted - Safari lethargy resolved.

(If you can't find things manually - try Spotlight ? - its what its there for!)

Many thanks to the original poster......

:p Thank you so much and the original person that posted this solution.... Safari is no longer slow!!! THANK YOU!!!! :)

This Works!!

After 2 hours and 22 minutes on the phone with Tech Support at Apple, my problem was fixed. I was frustrated with dial-up speeds after my Leopard installation.

He dragged a system configuration folder to the desktop, then launched Safari again. That was literally the fix to weeks of frustration!

Please let me know if this works for you! It did for me!!!

My Safari 4.0.4 was VERY SLOW - this worked!!! Find it with finder, then pop it on desktop. I then put it back where it was, but works fine.

Thanks!!!

A fix to a slow Safari in Leopard

....worked for me. Nothing else I tried work. I found this... now it loads the pages as quickly as on my PC's.

Add DNS servers to Current Network Configuration
This is the quickest & easiest way to use new DNS servers, which is to simply add them to the DNS tab found in System Preferences => Network => Advanced => click on DNS tab.

Click on the + sign at the bottom left hand corner near IPv6 or IPv6 addresses and type in the addresses of the DNS servers you wish, in reverse priority order. (Recommended: OpenDNS servers at 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222). I.e. the server that you want to use first, enter it last. Afterwards, click Ok. Then in the Network pane, click Apply to make your changes active. If you’re using an AirPort wireless connection, wait a few moments for the connection to be re-established
