Man, lets not get greedy. It's nice that they offered you something and it's worth good money. Applecare is awesome. Mobileme is worth $99, a case $30-50??? That's worth it for me to go in and exchange it. Just make sure you get a good one when you go in.

Completely agree here. The OP seems to not be that greedy though luckily, haha.

Honestly, if they have phones ready to exchange to him, and he's gotten free AppleCare and could get a free year of MobileMe, that $170 for his troubles. And if he waited 9 hours, although that's obviously quite an annoyingly long time, it's still being compensated almost $20 an hour.

Hell, I would put up with that if I got the same thing, haha.

just go get your new phone. And you got a bunch of other free stuff. Sounds like they are trying to hook you up!

I wouldnt accept MobileMe as it barely works now:rolleyes:

I would wait for them to continue calling me. It's their screw-up, you take your sweet time.

The least I would accept are accessories like headphones or a case. you shouldn't have to be understanding of their error after waiting 9 hrs.

The activation hassle is certainly worthy of some Apple goodies, but nobody at Apple was telling him to wait in line. That's just first day bragging rights to impress the fellow iPhone junkies.

I think the OP is being reasonable. The 'get as much as you can' posters are a bit off-putting. I'm surprised no one has suggested suing Apple for gross negligence and emotional distress.

Central Floridians will under stand; 'For the People'
I'm still curious how they were 'unofficially sold' I mean to the point that they are requiring physical device swap outs.

The guy was extremely apologetic and offered me stuff like an iPhone case or a year of MobileMe. In fact, after the 9 hour debacle on Friday, they gave me free AppleCare for my phone.

My friend was in the Apple store on launch day from 8am to 6pm. The Apple store bricked his old phone. Then bricked 4 3G iPhones. Then they had to take him to the ATT store and all this BS and he couldn't leave because he was going to be with out a phone and the discount for the new phone if he did.

Anyways in the end they gave him

10% off a future purchase of ANYTHING
200 dollar gift card
Free iPhone 3G Case

So I went in for the phone exchange and it went fine. They gave me MobileMe for my trouble...and its been nothing but trouble.

That software is garbage right now. It doesn't sync properly and after logging in (full of hassles) it offers to send me back to iTunes Japan.

You followed the instructions and signed up directly from your Mac using the Preferences pane, huh?

Yeah, I did the same thing. Apparently, Apple came up with the stupid idea of giving people the software update for MobileMe after they use the original .Mac component that came with Leopard. And .Mac screws it up. Silly instructions.

The good news is, it fixes itself, and then works beautifully. The bad news is, it takes about a week for that to happen.

You might want to try going here:

http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/

And intitiating a chat request. They might be able to help you. I fanything support is VERY apologetic about this, and they should be able to extend your trial.

Sounds good but get them to pay for your petrol/gas as well.

Oh and lunch.

Wow, I can't believe that they would let this happen, with the way that Apple works, I am surprised that they didn't cancel the "deactivation" procedure over their computers and just let you keep the phone. I would make a lot of fuss saying how you can't get in for a few days and if they do brick it in that time then I would make a huge fuss about the inconvenience and such, they can't pull a stunt like this and expect you to be able to get in on that short of a notice. Once you do get in, I would request for a little bit more than a year of MobileMe.

My wife just got the call from the Soho store in NYC. I'm gonna try and get her Applecare + a free case + screen protector. I'll let you know how it goes...

I'm surprised I haven't seen more posts like this. When the Apple store in Orlando called me, the guy said he was working through a list of 135 IN ORLANDO. He had to call all of them and have them bring their phones in.
