yes, it's free, but you/other side run the risk of sending it as a reg text and getting charged international text rate if using phone numbers.

Yup, that's what I thought but a friend back in the UK with an iPhone claims he gets charged. The messages are sent in "blue" iMessage format (not SMS green), and he has it configured so he can text using his mobile on his Mac and iPhone, don't know what the issue is there.

Thanks!

(and no, I wasn't "trolling", just [trying] to make light :) )

Sucks

If they have to stagger the release so as to not overload their servers with people signing up. I guess they're not really expecting it to become too popular or have too many users. Who would use this garbage?

I searched for everything I could think of on my iPhone 5 (BBM, Blackberry, Blackberry messenger, etc.) and it wont show up in the search results.

However, your direct link works.

The App Store search is biased towards popular Apps.

I'm not saying BBM is unpopular - it just hasn't been out long enough for it to get to the top of the search results.

The same thing happened with Google Maps the day it launched - now it's the top hit if you search for just "Maps".

I know everyone says BlackBerry sucks (and I really dislike their phones), but in all honesty, this is a really great alternative to Whatsapp.

The issue if msjs are really in blue, is that he doesn't really like to talk to you that much :p

The safest bet is sending imsj from email to email instead of using the phone numbers.

Now that most carriers give you unlimted txt, using other messaging systems is not a high a priority. And apples implementation where there is only one tool that switches between its own and the standard carrier SMS, I just dont see the need for this.

Most of my friends/co workers are apple users, but I would say 30 percent of the folks that I message with are not Apple. All I notice is my blue friends versus my green friends. I have no idea why i would need to install another app. The one that comes with the iPhone seems to do it all for me.

Same here. I cannot remember the last time I got a message and the chat bubbles were green and not blue.

Most people use what app or iMessage so there is no need for blackberry messenger at all really just pointless really a waste of time even bother for the development of the program all together
Actually I've seen a lot of people switch away from WhatsApp because of their new payment mode. It's not because they're too greedy to pay the small fee, it's because people either don't have PayPall for various reasons. If BBM provides a new solid and free platform for messaging I don't see why it couldn't become a success. They already have a good name out there. I honestly haven't heard a single negative thing about the service.

Not sure what's with all the hate towards BlackBerry and people wanting them to go belly up. Did the company inflict so much suffering or something else I'm unware of?

That said iMessage and SMS do the job for me as my providers gives unlimited text messages for free alongside my data plan. However, I'm willing to give BBM a chance since it worked like a charm in the past.

Not only that, but Whatsapp recently discovered MITM attack that can let someone intercept transmitted messages.

I'm not a tinfoil hat wearing guy, but given the choice, I'll take the more secure channel. Especially given that Whatsapp is subscription based and BBM is free (at least for now).
