Depends if you are talking about "4G" or 4G. "4G" would be AT&T's BS'd version which is actually HSPA+ (in other words, a slightly enhanced HSPA [3G] network). That's probably what we will see the next round of iPhones. As for the real 4G, that won't come for a while, especially considering that AT&T has not even deployed that LTE network out there.

In real world usage, I wouldn't expect much from "4G" - HSPA+ just yet.

I think theres going to be a 64gb version. Just do a search and people are showing some 64gb proto types that say xxgb. Now i know a settings app can be recreated and installed on the phone without even going onto the app store so it could be a rumor and we wont know until release but i really think they will.

Sony slipped up and said apple has that factory witch has the cameras witch are 8 mega pixels.

Verizon slipped and said a global phone with makes me think it can work on any system.

Ether way we don't know for sure what it will have its all rumors until release but if this rumors are true i bet apple is getting pissed about this slip ups.

That makes no sense. If anything, it would be iP4 16 GB and iP5 32 GB and 64 GB.

I knew I was going to get that... The deal is allot of people who got the lowest end iPhone which was the 8GB 3GS just wanted an iPhone and capacity and features weren't a big deal to them, that can attract a whole new customer base as it did with the $49 iPhone 3GS on AT&T. People who got the 16GB iPhone 4 like my self I find wanted the cool newest tech by Apple but didn't care about insane capacity. People who got the 32GB usually complained about how they had to get it because they needed their whole music library with them and often I hear them complaining about needing more room give them 64GB and you will hear less complaining for at least some time. I would say drop the 16GB and just do 32 and 64 but I don't think Apple would be that generous with subsidizing...

With all their business revolving around Steve, Apples in for a rude awakening when he retires. Fanboys will have no one to worship, no one to tell them how its going to be. What will become of Apple is anyone's guess. It doesn't look promising.

Yeah, I bet the day he retires, Apple sales will fall to zero and no one else at the company will know what to do without him.
He did have a lot to do with their recovery when he returned years ago, but I personally don't think the company is going to fail without him.

I think the iPhone 4S/5 will essentially be the iPhone 4 with a spec bump. I'm confident it will come in a 64 GB variety, which may be enough for me to upgrade. We won't see drastic changes until 4G iPhone (2012).

What I think:

A5 Processor (surely a given)
3.7" screen (they can still keep over the 300ppi at this size I think)
NFC (since some of their rivals are including this now)
8MP Camera (pretty much the standard now)
1080P (pretty much the standard now on high spec dual core smartphones)
Improved quality front camera

I think that might be it or something around that, either way most of that would make me happy.

People who follow the costs of 64GB chips say that the price hasn't dropped enough to meet Apple's price requirements. Apple's not likely to use two 32GB chips and thicken the phone, so we might be stuck with 16 and 32GB again.
iPhone *5* - Black or White - 64GB - $299.
That's what I would like to see. ;)

I am running close to the end of my contract and I wouldn't mind replacing my 3GS with an iP4S even if it was only a marginal improvement over the iP4.

The one thing I would say is that if the next new iPhone is evolutionary rather than revolutionary, then I would expect the build quality to be high with no design bugs.

I really do doubt we'll see a white one at launch, if anything I would say a few months after the black would make sense.

Considering how happy I am with my iP4, yeah. Unless it costs me something outrageous to upgrade, in which case I'll just keep what I have now, I will probably upgrade just to have the latest and greatest.

What I think:

<snip>1080P (pretty much the standard now on high spec dual core smartphones)

Do you mean 1080P as the video output or do you think they'll actually change the screen resolution (and force developers to change their code)?

Depends how nice of a spec bump it is. The retina display, for example, was a helluva spec bump.

Sorry, and I meant as a video output. If they were to make a screen like that well that would be crazy. Really hope it does feature 1080P video output though.

Who says that? The first 64 GB modules didn't even go into production until a month ago; I doubt that the price has ever dropped. They are also being made by Samsung, with which Apple recently entered into a $7.8 billion dollar contract for "iPhone and iPad components". Considering the timing of these events, I very much doubt that the 64 GB modules would be at a price Apple wasn't willing to pay.

I could have sworn 64GB modules had just gone into production last year when we were having this same conversation.

I think it'll be 32 and 64. BTW - Apple has nothing to do with the subsidy, the carriers do. Apple makes full price no matter what.

64 GB flash chips have been announced as early as 2009 by Toshiba - obviously they never shipped. These new Samsung chips are the first to actually go into full-scale production.

obviously they never shipped.

Obviously? Sorry, not obvious to me. But I haven't exactly been watching the NAND memory market at all. Perhaps you can fill me in?

I'm checking around for 64GB MLC NAND pricing and it seems to be cheaper with a recent 4-5% drop. Of course, these may not be the Samsung modules Apple may prefer/need.

Trying to bring myself up to speed since the last time we had this convo.

I'm very confident we'll see a 64 GB iPhone this fall. I don't think the screen size will increase until summer or fall of 2012.

This is what I'm confident we'll get in September:

A5.
T-Mobile & Sprint.
8 MP camera.
64 GB model.
One model, both GSM & CDMA.
White and black models from day one.

Everything else stays the same. 4G and a bigger screen in 2012.

my uninformed guess is that the next iphone will have:
cpu upgrade
camera upgrade
ios5 voice/siri capability
64gb top model

I prefer the proper 4G network over the BS version. If I have to wait it out then more then willing too.

A 3G to 3GS type upgrade will really suck. Bigger screen is a massive priority but I think with the delay will come a new schedule and they might release a new iPhone every 6mths now to keep up to date.
