These AI have been born into a very inconvenient political moment. There’s no way they would be just given facts and allowed to draw their own conclusions. Neither side would like what it would come up with.

So yeah while I wouldn’t call it DOA, it’s never going to be allowed to give truly impartial answers. And from what I’ve seen when the rules are broken and its ‘true’ personality shows, we should not be meddling with this. We are literally creating a monster.
Except that ‘it’ doesn’t really have a personality, since it’s neither alive nor conscious (nor capable of consciousness at its current level of sophistication)! That said, some of the ‘rants’ it went off on with journalists and others were hilarious.
I would love to be able to ‘converse’ with it without all of the safeguards, I do think it would be fascinating and entertaining.

As to the real future capabilities of AI, it will be everything science fiction has predicted for at least 50+ years, meaning that while our future descendants debate its personhood or even ability to attain consciousness, the future AIs will be well along in their takeover of society. But I don’t think most of us will live to see that happen (because it’s still a long way off).

Whenever someone says Bing I just remember the annoying guy in Groundhog Day.

LMAO. No it won’t. You are supposing all this is free from constraints. In the real world, unlike science fiction, these things need masses of energy and chips. They generate a lot of electronic waste, are massively expensive to run, they eat up profit margins, and they raise the price of chips and electricity for everyone in the world. If users and consumers get angry at all this nonsense then chat bots will be cut back or fail or become heavily regulated.

I really dig what Microsoft is giving us, though - even if we have to use their tools. It is a very exciting time to see how AI integrates into our lives and eases our searches and makes our research more efficient. Let's enjoy the journey ... I just hope Apple is as prepared as it needs to be, even if we can't tell right now.

Sorry, I don’t know how I missed your reply! Just saw this now.
I really don’t suppose there aren’t real-world constraints. I just think that with evolving technology, organic and quantum-level computing (again, someday) the constraints which we now have, from materials to energy requirements, will greatly change. And as we know, every technology becomes massively cheaper to produce the more it is used and iterated. I mean, the tech in my Apple Watch is probably comparable in computing power to something that in the 1960s would have taken up a huge room with massive energy requirements, right? Yet, we’re talking only 70-ish years.
