Me too .. I don't believe there is an air 2 without distortion .
I thought this topic died 2 months ago too .... And I thought thats because apple have resolved the issue and nobody is complaining about so I decided to go and get a replacement and I found my new replacement to be the same.... Either many people don't know about the distortion or lost hope :)

I simply don't believe people who say "my iPad doesn't distort even if pressed hard". I checked dozens of iPads and ALL of them distorted.

i could do a vid, if and when i have time... we have two units, and mine doesnt suffer at all even whem im pressing on a purpose that certain area while the other unit suffers immediately when you place your hand on it...

I tried two Air 2's and I could make both of them create a ripple effect similar to when you press on an LCD screen that's not protected with glass.

The only way I could make it happen was to press the back cover and pinch the front side in the same area. Under normal use I never saw that occur. Also each Air 2 had a different area where you could duplicate the problem. For me it was never a problem becuase I had to make the problem appear.

What made me return the Air 2 was the vibration coming from the back cover when playing audio without earphones. Now that was annoying to me as I don't wear earphones and I like listening to iTunes Radio while web browsing.

I totally agree wth you , all iPad Air 2 units have them it's just the difference in spots count and pressure points ... Severity . Some just show the screen distortion on touching ... Some need a little pressure some more pressure.
But I don't find the sound vibration a problem because mostly I use the headphones.

I just got a moshi versa cover for mine and it fixed the problem. No need to worry about this issue, I think people are obsessing too much over it. If you can't deal with it just return the Air 2 and get an Air 1. Personally, I love how the Air 2 feels and I can live with this small quirk for lighter weight and extra thinness.

Air 2 Screen distoring when holding.

Alright..... Kindly do a video of both ones u have , bounce both of them with the right hand.

mine is 64cellular while the other is wifi only. wifi only suffers, mine doesnt. both units come from the same factory (dn) too. but im doing the vid maybe on the next week(end) - abit busy at work now... but for now, tapping (from behind like a writing with a keyboard) or pressing/pushing my fingers on it and moving my hand on the right side -> no distortions.

all iPad Air 2 units have them it's just the difference in spots count and pressure points ...

i dont think that every units suffers from it. but what i have seen, some models suffers from it really bad.. only lifting the unit up and letting it lay on your hand you get distortions.. before i bought mine, i checked several units in stores, they all had it... not sure were they all wifi only models...

but sure, i can make it to produce distortions but i do have to press pretty hard a tiny area and a right spot. but i dont think that it will happen in a real life because it is impossible to lift your tablet just by one finger in the specific spot. so yes every units have it but every units dont suffer it. in a normal use i have never seen it, in a real life i use four fingers behind the device =]

My iPad Air 2 is flawless, no distortion what so ever. An apple employee could't believe mine hasn't distortion since his own iPad Air 2 has distortion and every demo models in the Apple Store had screen distortion also :D

That's not true. My iPad air 2 is flawless. It never distorts. I have seen the screen distortion issues on many other iPad Air 2 but mine doesn't do it at all.

It does sound vibration but the iPad Air 1 also does this. So I won't bother exchanging this unit and then get screen distortion problems with the replacement.

normal? maybe they should learn about a better designing if this is normal. it is just a bad designing. luckily my own air2 doesnt suffer from this so called a normal thing even when im pressing hard. but the other unit suffers even when you dont press on a purpose. i dont call it normal at all.

a good example of a combination of a bad designing and poor manufacturing which leads to issues...

Sounds like you located a normal one. And also have one of the better ones that was accidentally made better due to poor quality control ;)

I haven't noticed any distortion in my air2 wifi 64gb even when pressing a bit harder than normal. I also didn't notice that problem in the demo units on the stores of my area.

With respect to you , I think you are not testing it in the correct way , what made me think that you aren't testing them correctly ( pressing on the right spot) because u said all the demo units in the AppStore don't have it.
It does exist in every iPad Air 2 , I have been testing in egypt and in Ohio eton Apple Store .mall the units get the distortion but differs from the pressure , one need mild pressure , one more pressure but they all get distortions.

I don't know what is the correct way, but if i haven't noticed it even when pressing a bit harder than usual then it does not matter. I have used the ipad a lot everyday and i haven't seen any distortion with normal use. That is what matters. Ipad's air 2 without distortions do exist, mine is not the only one in this forum either.

By the way, how do we know when a unit was built?

I think the term "distortion" is incorrect. It's more like a screen ripple effect when you press on an LCD screen and you see the colors change.

Every iPad 2 may exhibit the problem, but if you have to push hard enough that you risk cracking the screen or breaking the iPad in order to see it, I think it would be safe to say that iPad doesn't have the problem.

Mine doesn't have the problem. In order to see it I have to put a significant amount of pressure on the back. It would be like saying my TV screen breaks if I take a baseball bat to it. While true, I wouldn't say my TV has baseball bat problem. :)

Yeah, probably. Still it should not be normal when applied minimal/medium pressure on an ipad.

By the way, how do we know when a unit was built?

Just discovered it, mine its from week 44 (november), DM - Foxconn.

Are recent batchs showing this problem?

The problem is howling till today's batches , Apple geniuses and call center claims it's not a problem and I have spoken to Apple guy over the phone after waiting a lot of time and he told me that he is one of those engineers involved in the iPad Air 2 designing. He told me that is normal and it shouldn't happen with normal use , also he said that there is a surge bar under the right side of the device which protects the iPad from electric surges where I used to press and get the distortion, he told me please don't keep pressing as this might cause damage to my lcd screen.

Tbh, if it happens under normal use, then i'd have it replace. For me it wasn't an issue because i'd have to apply extra pressure to see the problem.

and this is the main problem... for example how do you carry your ipad in your bag, if you need to worry all the time about damaging the screen? it is impossible to avoid things touching ipad in a bag. empty bag? hardcase for ipad when carrying it? or what... surely you cant use any softcase around it...

I got an excellent case ( Otterbox defender series ) for iPad Air 2 , it's a very protective case , still when I press hard on the back of the case but off course harder than without a case I can see the lcd distortion.
I think by time if you put your iPad in a bag or something.... Travel a lot ... Probably the issue might turn to be permanent screen distortion... And that what I am really worried about.

It's interesting that an apple employee would actually admit to this.

Glad you got a good one.

With all respect , All air 2 units have the distortion , you are just not pressing the right spot.
If you are not having that then kindly post a video showing so everyone can know there is 1 unit in the world with no distortion :)

It doesn't get it in normal use ....seriously it's a non issue ....you have to intentionally push down hard enough to get it
