I could justify having both. The Air is fantastic for me, but the rMini would be great for my wife and my daughters. I will wait a little while, though... the slimming of the full-sized iPad might already just be the ticket for everyone.

I also have both the Air and Mini retina. I'm actually going to return the Air and get another Mini retina.

Lol, the same. I'm just curious. I mean realistically the device is smaller than a notebook. Not a notebook computer, an actual notebook. It just makes me grin when people make it out to seem like they are dragging a desktop around.

I carry this to work everyday... ;)

Just bought an air for my wife. Going to trade my ipad2 in at lame stop and get a ps4 I think. I'd like to get a mini for myself but wonder if I'd like the air more.

I want a size that's in between the Air and Mini. I felt like the Air was too long in landscape. It honestly didn't feel right for thumbing — which is what I did on my iPad 3. Maybe it felt too light to be too big (might not make sense).

I took the Air back and got the mini. I don't feel as tied down by the rMini as I do with my Air. I can bench press 405, so weight isn't an issue.

I love this mini so far, but I miss the large screen size on the Air for browsing. I don't miss the Air for typing. I can't stand typing on it like a regular keyboard. I love to use my thumbs.

If I had the money, I'd keep both and decide. For now, this mini will do.

Funny! I actually had one of those when they came out. There was actually an Osborne store. Weighed a ton, had a whole 64K ram, and taught me what BDOS ERROR ON D-BAD SECTOR meant. Anyone else remember Wordstar ???

I bought an Air and I just bought a Retina Mini yesterday. Can't justify it because I quite frankly don't need either of them. I like gadgets (my wife thinks I'm crazy) :)

You don't need either of them? Damn, I thought I was the only one!! :D

I have both. Got the air on launch day and got the Rmini today. I'm a student and I commute all the time. Is that reallyyyy a valid reason? I guess not but I definitely will get a lot of use from both as I'm constantly reading or studying for something :)

i can barely justify my iPhone, iPad and 15 rMBP. i have to alternate between just so they don't get jealous! lol

iPad Air WiFi for home. And ipad mini retina WiFi/Cellular for on the go.

I own both an Air and Mini right now (1st gen). I haven't used the mini at all since buying the Air, I am just waiting on selling it at the moment. Of course the retina Mini is faster and better display, but for the most part I prefer the bigger screen. The better combo is Air + Kindle Paperwhite - Air for email, web, game and other apps with the Paperwhite for reading books. The advantage over Air and Mini is that you won't be constantly having to charge (The kindle lasts for around a month.)

But of course that would be assuming you want a Mini mainly for reading.

I've been thinking about this exact scenario for myself, though using the rMini as the eReader as opposed to the Kindle.

The mini (I've had a couple of Nexus 7 tablets around) seems to fit a particular need for me, mostly around eReading and "carry everywhere" type portability. I do wonder about it being too small for regular web-browsing even around the house.

I currently have a Surface Pro 2, which quite honestly has been an excellent tablet and ok computer, but at 2 lbs is a bit much to lay in bed and read from. It's excellent for watching videos and actually being productive. But I really mostly use it for watching videos, and couch-surfing. It's occasionally useful as my "backup" PC at the office (use a 13" MBA with a monitor the rest of the time).

I'm thinking of swapping the SP2 for an iPad Air as my video watching / couch surfing device. I can't justify the iPad Air at all....but every time I use one, it doesn't change my desire to want one.

Funds aren't the issue, but I do try to minimize the number of devices I cart around. MBA+SP2+rMini or do I go MBA+iPad Air+rMini (1 lb lighter)?

I suppose if I was truly smart I could go SP2+rMini and leave the MBA at home, and use Windows 8.1 as my primary OS.

Realizing that this is MacRumors, so an inherent bias is built-in, but would you go SP2+retina Mini, or MBA+iPad Air+rMini, or just MBA+rMini (or iPad Air)?

If cost wasn't an issue, would you have both the iPad Air AND a retina Mini? Or is the idea of having two tablets (regardless of cost) a silly idea?

I bought the Air on day 1 but ended up returning it for rMini. I really liked the Air and would love both. Unfortunately, my budget over-ruled my wishes.
