Two iPad Airs with unacceptable screens now. Gonna go get a third on Saturday, if that is bad then I will leave it a few weeks to get a different batch.

I phoned John Lewis, just to mention my concern, and the guy said I had 28 days to return it; where did you read 90 days?

As for the 2 year warranty, that's the reason I chose to spend a bit more than PC World and Tesco offered!

If you send John Lewis a price match email they will refund you £30 for the price difference

I think mine is getting worse o_O I did the test on a pure white screen and saw a bit of yellow like others but now its so bad I see it on most apps the moment I turn it on. Genius appointment set for this evening.

Update us on how that goes.

Also could you ask the genius if he/she has seen a lot if these issues?

My genius appointment isn't until Saturday.

Apple sees a lot of nothing! They will NEVER admit to flaws so a genius follows suit.....good luck for them telling you they had an abundance of returns due to a defect of any kind.

I don't know what Apple you've dealt with but I've always had helpful reps who were quick to swap my device when I had an issue. Once took in an old iPod touch that broke a year before and I had tossed it in a drawer and forgot about it but then finally took it in and they replaced it for a "new" one in minutes.

They will absolutely swap it out, that wasn't what I meant in terms of my post. They just will not tell you that they have had a lot of returns on a specific defect.

My experience today at Apple

Last night, I discovered a artifact underneath the screen as I went to clean it off. I made a Genius Bar appointment and my experience couldn't have gone any better when it comes to the Apple Genius that I had at the Victor, NY store.

I purchased a space grey 64GB Tmobile iPad on launch day. Today, I went through a total of 5 in store and they were down to the literal last model. All of them had artifacts underneath the screen except for the final one that was in store which I ended up purchasing.

The Genuis himself said, "What the freaking heck is wrong with our quality control?" He noticed it on each subsequent iPad until the final one. It was almost like he was worked up more than I was at time. I simply treated everyone there and the situation itself with the utmost respect and honesty. It was nice walking out with a functional and perfect iPad, along with a good Genius Bar experience. Now, time to improve the quality control.

This is why we buy apple products.

Exactly. The customer service for me has been second to none. I remember the switch from the PPC to Intel. During that stretch, I literally went through about 9 different computers because of logical board issues and manufacturing defects. It is crazy, it was crazy, but it all worked out in the end.

Checked it, they don't have my model in stock(black 16 T-Mo). They're ordering a replacement for me that I can come swap for in a week though.

I am scared to buy one now. I was planning to do it tonight but I guess I'll wait. I don't want to play the exchange game with Apple.

And you are a regular on this forum from 2007... there is nothing wrong with the devices, don't be scared just buy it.

Although that is too strong a statement, there are issues, it shouldn't scare people away. Every release has issues. It's inevitable with these massive releases.

Got one today that was just a pink mess on the bottom and top. Surprised that we're still dealing with these issues in 2013. I remember doing the swap game with the iPad 3 over the same issue. Rather annoying.

White backgrounds are always hard for LED screens to display properly. Most of your LED TV's out there are horrendous. If I were to point out the flaws on those tv's, even the $3000 ones, I would ruin your viewing experience because those flaws would drive you nuts. Watch a hockey game in a dark room. The dirty screen effect will drive you nuts. In a totally dark room, switch your tv to an unused HDMI port, and look at the uneven shading of dark grey. Let your eyes get use to the dark room for a few minutes. Then sit back and view the screen. Most will see some sort of clouding. LED screens, in general, are all crap. Don't even talk about the color accuracy and black levels of LED. They are worse than Plasma tv's of 10 years ago.

Seriously? Half of these people have severe OCD. Chances are you screen will be fine.

I went for it anyway and everything turned out ok. The screen seems great for once! This is probably the first time I've ever bought anything from apple without some sort of defect.
The issue is not with the defect but what happens afterward. Going to the Genius bar is like going to the dentist to get your tooth pulled out. I do not enjoy it and about 75% of the time I get very unhelpful apple employees.

My current one and the previous ipad Air do not have yellow tint issue. I think it depends on the batch. I'm in southern California.
