I was pretty nervous after reading this thread. Today I picked up a 128GB Air at the Apple store. I opened it and checked it out before leaving. Near as I could tell it was fine. Just finished restoring from backup of iPad 3. Really loving this iPad. Seems to me that the photos on this display are more vivid and sharp than on the iPad 3.

Mine looks fine to me??

Edit. This ones at 100% brightness

It doesn't look too uniform, with an all black jpg might be worse? I'm not saying to go look for it now though you sound happy so keep it and stop coming in this thread. LOL

Don't know if this helps but it's one of the least affected by the black bar issue that is going around.

I bought in Europe 2 x 16 GB space gray and no issue with screen.

T think first first batches are always for US market to make strong supply, and only then they start producing for Europe, thanks for that... :)

The left side on mine was more yellowish, and darker / bluer on the right side. I mostly noticed it when reading books. It will be going back today and I'll wait a bit before trying again.

After 4 exchanges each getting worst than the other, I've finally requested a refund of my iPad Air. The inconsistency of the display isn't something I'm willing to live with in a 400£ device.
It is possible to build issue free units so why this isn't done consistently is beyond me and I'm not willing to take the "displays need to burn in" excuse.
A 400£ premium device has to be perfect from the first minute and there's no reason why I should tolerate defects for the sake of a stamp in the back.
The last straw for me was my last exchange unit which not only had yellow tinting on the left side but also the freaking vertical interlacing.
I'll wait for the mini retinas and see how they hold regarding display quality but I'm definitely not holding my breath.

@RJCP:

So every of your changed device had this yellow tint on the left side ??

I got mine on Sunday and it also has this yellow tint on the left. I thought also about changing it, but i heard from so many others that the chance to get a worse one is higher then anything else.

I wouldn't bother for an exchange for now. 6/8 iPad Airs on the floor of my local Apple store had the same screen issue.

I'm holding out and seeing what happens. If you live in the UK a good option may be to get it at John Lewis because besides a free 2 year warranty, you also have 90 days to return it.

Oh I didn't know John Lewis offered 2 years. I got mine from the Apple store at Southampton, so i'm stuck with 1 year.

I will do the same. Changing actually has no sense because, to many devices look like that.

Read through so many forums and everywhere the same problem with yellowish screen or the black line effect.

Status update. Replaced Mine at my local reseller in town. It was no problem cause the Guy at the shop saw the problem right away. My Second One has less yellow tint but also visible on the bottom left. Therefore i have 2 horizontal dark lines. Overall this one is better then the first and im going to keep it

Someone in Apple forum say he burn the screen with a white image at 100% brightness for a day.
I will try it bevor i return the Air.

My comment is helpful to other people who are seeing what I'm seeing and looking to find more information about it.

Your comment is the equivalent of walking into the waiting room of a hospital and announcing "idk what's wrong with you guys, I feel fine!

@MCDJ I would always urge Apple to keep producing some or the other screen issues lol so you have an excuse to come up with some of your deadliest but hilarious comments :) love how you give it back to people who talk much in favour of apple lol I am a fan of your comments, have been reading your comments since the marathon exchange that you had with iPad-3 :) Man ! Missed those comments of yours since those days lol those are hilarious Ha...Ha...Ha especially when someone tries to teach you who is the daddy here lol !!

what should I look for? Got my air today and so far havent noticed anything

I've just received my iPad Air.

Screen has the yellowing on one side to some degree, not enough to bother me though I don't think. Light bleed is ok too.

So much better to use than my iPad 2, the weight and size difference is amazing.

One question I have though - if I keep it and a month down the line all new ones have perfect screens can it still be exchanged? Or is it 14 days or bust on this issue?

Thanks :)

Will I be entitled to a replacement? My iPad air has a black speck stuck between the display and the glass, maybe 2 pixels in size. It's noticeable when the display is outputting lighter colours, like on white screens, or when using safari to read black-on-white text.

Had the same problem with mine, went to the store to replace it, opened up the replacement in store and instead of having it in the top left the new one had it in the bottom right. Opened a third and it looked like it had the same problem in the top right, but luckily that was on the outside and just brushed off. I didn't spot the problem at all yesterday, but once I noticed this morning I couldn't not notice it every time I looked at the screen.

I phoned John Lewis, just to mention my concern, and the guy said I had 28 days to return it; where did you read 90 days?

As for the 2 year warranty, that's the reason I chose to spend a bit more than PC World and Tesco offered!

My guess is that issues with evenness in the panel have more to do with the laminating or assembly process of the entire screen than of evenness in LCD layer. The vendors could be delivering perfectly even LCDs. It's what happens to them when they get squished into the super thin shell that becomes the problem.

The uneven screen is due to one thing , the glass. Apple has a lot of glass manufacturers and this which appears a not so simple process I assume is what is giving the different hues, discolouration and rainbow effects! It's all based on the curing ,heat and time they take in finishing the glass screen.

ha...ha...ha seriously man :) lmao :)) that was very hilarious :))
