I ended up turning the firewall off for now, i tried adding the app to the safe list but still it was being blocked, i need sometime to play with it a bit. Since I use an aebs as my router the software firewall was I overkill in some ways anyway.

On another note I suggested to the dev team to allow the use of a shortcut Leo to enable AirPlay. This would allow Bluetooth keyboard users to turn on and off AirPlay mirroring from a distance, say on the couch while your Mac sits on a desk a few feet away. Switching from Mac to atv and back from the couch would be nice.

That didn't work for me. Seems whenever I have both devices on my 5ghz network, there is a large amount of lag. When I have one device on the 2.5Ghz network, there is no lag. Weird.

Does anyone know if...

I know that ATV can now mirror the MBP display with audio using AirParrot. However, does anyone know if there is a way to do the same (mirror the display or desktop) with a windows7 PC? Thanks in advance.

Sluggish video

I was streaming a full screen web video yesterday using AirParrot. The video seemed "sluggish" sort of like a minor slow motion or only part of the frames being displayed. I tried different AP setting but could not seem to solve the problem, only make it worse. The video looked fine on the MBP screen. I am open to any suggestions any one might have.

I also tried airplay from our iPad. The video from it was played smoothly but it had a lot more compression artifacts.

Update: Worked with their very responsive TS. They think the problem that I don't have enough CPU as the conversion to h264 of the fly is very CPU intensive. Also, the video I was watching on the internet was a flash video that was eating up CPU as well. But I really think that if an iPad can stream smoothly to my tv then AirParrot on my Mac should be able to as well. They have asked me to try different video sources to see if it is universal or do to the flash I was watching.

Use VLC with AirParrot for DVDs

What was the setting you changed in your firewall. I'm having problems with lagging as as well.

If you use the VLC media player you don't have to worry about altering any firewall or other settings with your MAC. While VLC isn't as great a product as the Apple DVD Player, it works with no hassels with AirParrot.

I emailed them about the laggyness and they sent me a link to an updated 1.6 dmg and now this works flawlessly. I would say its pretty much as smooth as using an ATV.

Gary,
Can you share link for Air Parrot 1.6 dmg. I have been experiencing a lot of choppiness while mirroring. I am using 1.4

why would they only offer you the latest version of the software but not offer it on the website? it says it's on 1.43

It's interesting that since that post, there has been no more mention of it and requests for a link are ignored. I agree with you 100%. If they had a version that worked perfectly, they would offer it as beta to paid users that are having issues. I deleted my version as it was fairly useless for watching movies or streaming internet video. It was just unwatchable. Also, I had that bug that every time you restart your Mac, the cursor will freeze up when dragging something and you have to close the lid, let it got to sleep, then wake it up, for the cursor to work normally again.

I downloaded the trial and it works ok but I can't get the sound to work even when I restarted my macbook for it to install

I was going to buy it the instant I saw it until I still can't get the trial to work. It just doesn't see the ATV, and when it does, it's frozen.

Just got Air Parrot up and working...

Seems like a decent 9.99 app. Was just putting it through its passes (v.1.4.3).
The settings that seemed to produce the best results were above 30fps with a medium/high res. setting. The only problems that AP encountered was the audio would drop out / stutter when the settings were above 30fps and at the highest res. setting. CPU never went passed 50% and normally remained at about 30%. Fairly pleased with it so far, only about 3 hrs of use. Also at very high settings (fps 60/highest res) also caused the video to lag by alot (10secs or so). Not bad for the mac book pro (6,2) that just missed the cut off for AirPlay vid via Mountain Lion.

So here's the thing.

I have two wifi routers one in the office and another one is the living room (to extend the signal through the house), i have both iMac and atv3 connect to the same wifi network (more specificaly, the ATV3 is connect to the living room router, and the iMac to the office router) but even so the air parrot isn't capable of detecting atv3.

Is it because of the different type os routers?

Thanks

Here is what I found is a solution to Dvd checkerboard. First I called apple tv support,
no help finally I was cut off and tech never
called me back. I found a app called Macx free dvd to apple tv converter, it is free and it copies
the dvd to mp4. Now I can play it on apple tv.

What is dvd checkerboard?

Why not just use Handbrake to covert the dvd to mp4?

Also, it's not free. It's $40: http://www.macxdvd.com

Why do these idiots at AirParrot have people download an old version of AirParrot (which is frankly, ****) when they could be giving them the lastest one, (1.6) - which apparently works?
