What’s the long term? To kill off the Apple TV? Sell services?
I doubt they will kill the Apple TV but when your making movies and TV shows you need the biggest audience staying just on the Apple TV would be like releasing a movie to theaters but never to DVD or Netflix your going to miss out on a lot of viewers and income.

To grow their subscriber base.

Can't do that if your service is limited to one device.
Bingo. I feel a lot better about purchasing movies and tv shows from Apple now that I can view them on the Roku devices. I hope that they update the app. It's the only app that I have ever used on my Roku(s) that is actually slow to navigate. Playback is fine. I think that they are trying to be a bit too fancy with the transparencies and animations.

This has been promised for years and I still have no idea what models Airplay 2 are on.
My TCL ROKU TV has long been awaiting AirPlay 2 support. Will this ever really happen? Will they support older models?

Right? It's been "Coming to ROKU Devices" for a long time now...

Sorry but Roku is garbage. A friend of mine just bought a Roku TV. They now require a $60 subscription to be able to use the TV for anything—even TV functions not utilizing Roku. I called the Roku support number in an attempt to help him and was informed by the billing manager that they just changed their Terms of Service to require a subscription. Needless to say, he is returning the TV.

Pretty certain you got scammed. Roku never charges a subscription. https://support.roku.com/article/208757068

Its even worse for me. When I try to start any Apple TV+ shows on my Roku boxes, 9 times out of 10 it will time out and tell me to try playing the content later. Its very frustrating and I have no idea if newer hardware would do better. Disney+ has no such problems on my Roku boxes and Roku TV (which isn't even supported for Apple TV+) and my 1 year free with Disney+ is starting just as my Apple TV+ 1 year is almost up... which do you think will be sticking around?

Wake me up when HomeKit support comes to split unit air conditioners. My money is waiting.
Just A/C or heat pump? Hopefully heat pump if you’re located in San Diego. Inverter-type mini-splits? Love ‘em. Extremely efficient.

If heat pump, usually it’s best to set and forget. Not usually worth trying to setback intra-day. A notable exception would be if you’re on a time-of-use rate plan. Pre-cooling before a high-cost rate temporarily kicks in can save real money. (I’m assuming you’re talking about an owner-occupied residence.)

Anyway, I wouldn’t hold my breath for HomeKit support. Mitsubishi, LG, Fujitsu, etc. offer some smart functions through their proprietary apps, and while it’s possible to get some basic functionality going using adapters and bridges, but pretty much everything I’ve seen is klugey.

And as I also stated with my Roku tv I bought a month ago, there is NO subscription fee to use the tv.

Was the TV bought new or used? And from where?

TV was bought new from a local Walmart. I saw the receipt.

Happened to a friend of mine a few months ago turns out it was his old unpatched router had been hacked into. Its DNS settings were remotely changed that sent legitimate domains to phishing sites. Id recommend checking out nextdns.io for the network you can review the logs and see where the traffic is going and it will block any of the phishing domains plus all of Rokus ads. It was the same scam $60 five years and they injected a site into the TV. Thats not even considering banking etc he did on his computer may have been compromised as well.

This happened despite using the ATT modem/router. I can check security, but he had third party AV, URL checker and a firewall up, he is older and basically just plays games on it, pays bills, etc. No browsing to shady sites.

Edit: To all of you who dislike my posts on this topic, please bear in mind the error message and phone number appeared on the Roku TV, not when I went to a Roku site. It also happened using only the ATT ISP modem-router. Clearly this TV was hacked or altered or re-sold after being returned. Regardless it makes for a poor customer experience and others have had the same error message on the Roku TV, not when trying to go to Roku’s site. If this had happened on an AppleTV, what would you be saying then?

All we're saying is, there's definitely more to this story than you're sharing with us. That may not be your fault; it's possible there's more to this story that hasn't been shared with you. None of this changes the fact that there are zero fees to activate or use a Roku device. So something was hacked or mistyped or misdialed somewhere along the way. And without proof of any of this (did you or your friend, or can you or your friend, post a picture of the error message, for instance?) then it's gonna make you look like an idiot when you argue so hard against people posting facts and evidence that what happened to you is abnormal.

using the ATT modem/router
Those are probably even less likely to be patched than a good third-party router.

I haven't had that problem. Playback has always been fine for me, it's the UI/UX that is very slow, even on a 4k Roku.

For now i’ll chalk it up to a scam, but how it occurred through their tv leaves me perplexed
Either the scammers got to your friend's router DNS cache, or the TV itself (if it was a return / open box), or possibly to your ISP's DNS nameservers.

It happens on both a Roku 3 and an Express for me. Works fine on an Amazon Firestick. Don’t know if I should upgrade to an Ultra or just get the rumored new Apple TV if it comes out soon. We just got into HomeKit, so having an extra hub in our bedroom would be nice.

I’m not arguing against it being a scam; I am arguing that the TV appears to have been compromised. Others have had this experience too. Regardless, if it is that easy to compromise security on a Roku TV, I would not buy one. Roku devices are a different matter.

Sounds like you should just get an AppleTV.

Id bet a lot of money the ATT router is the issue those things never get patched and are often targeted since most people just keep them instead of upgrading to something nicer and on the default settings with UPNP still enabled. The AV and firewall on his computer wont do a thing to stop it. A third party router that auto updates often like EERO is your best bet to fix it along with a good DNS provider (NextDNS, Cloudflare or Adguard DNS are my go to ones)

I have an AppleTV, but my much older friend is not going to go that route nor could he handle managing a third-party router. He just wanted a basic TV for his small office; he didn’t even want a smart TV.

Well, anyways, I have nothing more to say. No need to beat a dead horse.

Just got this update on my Insignia (Best Buy brand) 7301X Roku TV. HomeKit and Airplay seem to be working well!

Same here! Showing now on our Hisense Roku 55" TVs and Roku 4K sticks. Finally!!!

I have a 2018 43" Roku and am wondering if the update will be available for my tv (I'm at work or I would check it).

This is from a Roku article, but it seems like people without the model numbers listed are still being able to update?
