Airplayer currently doesn't work for sound only, hopefully they add that in. But still cool.
I was referring to Rogue Amoeba working on integrating AirPlay (which can do audio only) into AirFoil (Rogue Amoeba's product).

From what I understand AirFoil uses what was AirTunes. Now if it could just accept input and they update it to work with AirPlay, bingo.

Note: I don't know the technical details of AirTunes > AirPlay so I don't know what Apple did with AirPlay besides adding video streaming. I'm assuming they updated the audio protocol as well.

As I said in an earlier post, I'd like the Apple TV app to be available on my other iOS devices so I can stream content from my mac to my iOS device anywhere in the house.
Even if that doesn't happen, airplay from my mac to my iPad would be useful as I often like to watch a video on my iPad at the side of my Mac when I'm working

but you HAVE to be on a Mac in order to push content (Airplay) to your iPhone.

Airplay is not having the client (Active) getting content from a server (Passive), it's a server (Active) pushing content to a client (Passive).

I think you don't understand Airplay.

Jeez, no need to be snide. There are clearly a lot of people here that have immediately seen use for this, including myself. To first declare that it's pointless, and then, when I try to argue that it's not, liken my argument to a discussion of a dog turd, is quite insulting. Stop being so full of your own opinion. Just because you don't like something does NOT mean that it's pointless, worthless, or likened to a dog turd.

Do yourself a favor. When you read everybody's posts, just append "in my opinion," to the beginning "for me" to the end of them. It will save you a lot of pointless typing.

Unless I am way off this already exists and has done for a while now. AirVideo for the iPad and iPhone allows me to stream any media (including transcoded on the fly videos) to my iPad/iPhone from my Mac OR Windows machine.

Works brilliantly even has a new over 3G streaming option in the latest version.

That software allows you to stream any kind of movie to an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. I want software that will let me stream any kind of movie to my AppleTV 2G without the necessity of an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.

That's the reverse of what Airplayer does -- FROM your iDevice TO your Mac. Right now the only devices you can target for playback from iOS are Apple TV 2s and Airport Expresses. What if you want music going to a computer?

Correct, I suspect if Apple open up the AppleTV for apps Air Video will have a AppleTV version quickly. I hope that Apple do open up the AppleTV for apps in some way as a bunch of apps on the AppStore would be great on the Apple TV

EyeTV, Sling, AirVideo are all things that would be brilliant if you could run them on the AppleTV (and hence watch on your TV instead of a small iOS screen).

I am certain Apple it's only the matter of time before Apple opens up ATV2 to 3rd-party apps. Doing so will do the same for ATV as what App Store did for iPhone. The hardware was designed to support 3rd-party apps - it has local storage that's not being used right now.

My prediction - 3rd-party app support for ATV will be announced at Fall 2011 media event, 1 year after the original intro of ATV2.

Yes. We need one more thing.

Audio only. So what I said still holds, we still cannot stream anything from an iOS to another iOS, though we can do it for audio, so it's definitely a step in the right direction, but we still need one more thing.

Yes, we need to be able to use AirPlayer to send music, particularly from sources such as Pandora from an iOS device to a Mac. Here is one example why. Right now, AirPlay can only send to one device at a time (one Airport Express, for example). But what if I want to send to multiple speakers? I have a Mac Mini connected to my stereo. I have an airport express connected to powered speakers in the next room. If AirPlayer could send music from Pandora, I could play and control that music right from my iPhone, rather than using my MacMini and Airfoil. I can use the remote app from my iPhone to send music from iTunes on my MacMini to the stereo and powered speakers at once, but not Pandora, etc.

In sum, what I would like is for AirPlay to be able to send to multiple devices at once, and for those devices to be Macs as well as Airport Expresses and Apple TVs. This would enhance my wireless music setup in my home and hence enhance my lifestyle.

If you start the session with iTunes on a computer, you can select multiple speakers (but not other computers). But you're right, from an iOS device you can't select multiple output devices. I think I'm OK with iOS source devices being limited to one renderer, at least for now. I wonder if the stream is UDP broadcast so multiple devices can "listen" instead of several parallel streams, that may explain why it's only one if it's not.

Hi everyone. I was reading this thread and I thought to tell you about an app that I developed and it was just released called 'Wifi Photo Viewer'. Is kind of like AirPlay for photos but works with any computer. It let's you show your iPhone photos on a computer screen over wifi which is nice when you want to show your photos to family and friends on a bigger screen. Here is a video that shows how the app works:

If you have any feedback it would be very appreciated. Thanks
