Not sure what they are referring to by higher sound quality. I don't think its the latency as that wouldnt matter so much with music and podcasts. Maybe if its BT5 it can stream higher bitrate.

From Apple Website "Powered by the all-new Apple H1 headphone chip, AirPods deliver a faster and more stable wireless connection to your devices — up to 2x faster when switching between active devices,3 and a 1.5x faster connection time for phone calls.4 The H1 chip also drives voice-enabled Siri access and delivers up to 30 percent lower gaming latency.5 So whether you’re playing games, listening to music, or enjoying podcasts, you’ll experience higher-quality sound."

Just as you think Sound Quality is not an issue for a lot of people, I am saying it is, for a lot of people.

Over the 2 years I probably have met 50 people with AirPods and had a discussion. Only 1 person mentioned lack of sound quality. I know that’s no representative, but my personal experience.

You don’t like it either, now with 2 people it can be considered a “lot”.

I would like a noise insulation version which certainly would have influence on sound.
However I want both versions and use depending on situation. If I would have to choose I would prefer non noise insulation to notice my environment.

For non noise insulation to me and the people I know the sound is actually fairly good.
For call quality to me the AirPods are the best I ever had and I had plenty.

It’s understood they may not be for everyone. If sound quality is most important to you and have others that are better, feel free to go elsewhere.

For me I have not yet found a better “package”.

On the other side I have to admit, unlike in the past where I got a new Bluetooth headset every 6 months, I stopped searching.

I ordered the new version. If you consider that an Apple Sheep, then at least you should know that I am a happy sheep.

I am just wondering if everything is the same in mean terms of hardware apart from the H1 Chip which does not really contribute to high quality sound. What does Apple mean when they say you'll experience high quality sound ?

I heard a rumor somewhere that Apple made some changes to internal components to make bass richer etc. while keeping the same form factor but as others have stated we just have to wait for the reviews.

I have a feeling that if there were any hardware changes Apple would have had that fact all over their advertising. With that said, BT5 does allow for higher data transfer so the sound improvements could be attributed to that. Just a guess though;)

The sound quality on the AirPods is excellent. So the sound quality on the newest release will be equally as excellent.

But will it be better is what we’re hoping to find out.

Would Apple hold off boosting the audio quality (via software only) until v3, despite v2 being able to take advantage with BT5?

I wouldn’t put it past them...
